"Mobilizing for a sectoral programme of work for social quality management in the sporting goods industry" (“Fair Play in Sporting Goods Production”)is a three-year project co-financed by the European Commission and implemented in Poland by Karat Coalition with partners from Austria (Südwind Agentur) and Germany (Inkota).

Its main objective is to raise public awareness of working conditions in factories producing goods for the sporting sector and to increase their involvement in actions to improve the current situation.

Project’s activities in Poland particularly involve: research and publishing report on the sportswear sector in Poland, developing and distributing information and campaigning materials in Polish, forming and developing a network of activists, conducting awareness raising campaigns and actions together to improve

working conditions and promote responsible purchasing practices.international cooperation, information and experience exchange as well as common actions on international level are very important aspects of the project.

Karat Coalition

The three-year project „makeITfair” aims at raising awareness about developmentissues in the production chain of the electronics industry, with a special focus on young consumer electronics, including mobile phones, MP3 players, game consoles and laptops.

It is implemented by a consortium of European NGOs led by SOMO, as well as NGOs in developing countries. Activities implemented in Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary are coordinated by Karat Coalition with its secretariat based in Warsaw.

The project is focused on the link between situation in developing countries and production chain of electronics (conditions under which raw materials for electronics are extracted, production, retailing and discarding of products).

Furthermore, the project investigates the situation in Europe itself: in the first year it focuses on production in Poland (report published at the end of February 2008 and a capacity building event was held in Warsaw in November 2007), in the second and third year the electronics industry in Czech Republic and Hungary will be addressed (through research, publishing of reports and capacity building events).

MainMain challenegeschalleneges inin 20082008

Consultations with the Ministry of National Education– For the first time Polish NGOs working in the field of development

education and awareness raising have formed common list of recommendations for the Ministry. The task for 2008 is to work out the pattern of cooperation with the Ministry that would be workable after next elections.

Global Education Week 2008– Almost all DE/AR organizations participate in preparations of Global

Education Week so the project is a chance to unite activities of many NGOs. The task for 2008 is to reach much more students and teachers.
