DEVELOPMENT OF A KNOWLEDGE STORY CONSTRUCTION FRAMEWORK
Introduction• Storytelling is one of the ways in capturing and
transferring knowledge. • The problem is that it is rarely explored
academically and underrated in the real world.• Stories are a form of narrative (Gabriel,
2000;Sole, 2002) but not all narrative is good knowledge sharing stories (Sole, 2002;Ruggles, 2002).
• To address the issues there is a need to establish a framework that guides organisations in producing a organisation story that is knowledge worthy.
Introduction• The aim is to understand how a knowledge
story is constructed.• This paper presents the development of a
framework to construct knowledge story.• The purpose of this framework is to guide KM
personnel on the construction of knowledge stories.
Knowledge storytelling application• TellStory (Santoro & Brezillon, 2005)
o Stories are construct in groups. o Story construction in two ways: (1)Informally
and comments (2) Context Framework (structure)
• StoryMapper (Costa et al, 2004)o Group storytelling o Using conceptual maps. (structure)o Template - a node in the map.
• The Well (Katzef & Ware, 2006)o Capture single stories o No control
Knowledge story construction workshop• To understand how knowledge story is
constructed.• 16 participants divided into 5 groups of 2-4
people in 5 different sessions.• The interview sessions were video recorded and
transcribed• Data were qualitatively analyzed using NVivo.

A person who ensures that knowledge elements exists in the story. This person also match the purpose of the story with the content. This person does not have to be an expert.

Conclusion The framework was developed using
qualitative techniques to guide the construction of a knowledge story.
Knowledge stories are build in phases within a collective effort.
The framework could be in an integral part in the development of a KM storytelling application.
