A Month of Magnitude
CIS and students at Dover High School fully embraced the importance of
spreading awareness for the entire month of October. We focused on Breast
Cancer Awareness and National Bullying Prevention. The students fully
understood the magnitude of these issues and decided to take a stance. We will
continue to collaborate with the community and school staff to develop quality
initiatives at Dover High School.
Fight Like A Girl : Breast Cancer Awareness
CIS partnered with the Delaware BreastCancer Coliation and hosted a lunch and
learn titled “Fight Like A Girl”. The
Outreach and Education Coordinator,
Chadeia Mitchell, came to Dover High on
October 18, 2012. She enlightened 60
students about the importance of breast
health and screening for both men and women with a unique video featuring
"Lady TaTa".

Mentoring MinuteDHS-CIS Mentoring Program
A word from our Mentor Coordinator!
I am Steffi Holmes, the new Mentor Coordinator at Dover High School and
Fairview Elementary School. I serve through Connecting Generations and
AmeriCorps and I am very excited to be a part of the school community from
now until next October. I am working very hard to get our mentoring program
up and running again this year, and I am always looking for more mentors and
volunteers. Did you know that anyone with the time and desire to positively
impact a youth in the community would make a good mentor? That meansstaff, teachers, parents, and even high school students can all get more involved
in the community by spending one-on-one time with a child for a minimum of
30 minutes once a week. It doesn’t seem like a lot of time, but it always makes
an impact on both the mentor and mentee. Please contact Ms. Holmes if you
have any questions, are interested in becoming a mentor at Dover High
or Fairview, or just want to say “hi.” Office hours are posted in the Green
Office, and you can always send an email to: [email protected]
