    Stanford Maintains Lead in WinterLearfield Sports Directors Cup Standings;

    ACC and Big Ten Each Place Three Institutions in Top 10

    CLEVELAND Stanford has retained the overall lead in the first winter Division I Learfield SportsDirectors Cup Standings with 902 points. The Cardinal placed third in both mens swimming anddiving and womens basketball and 10

    thin fencing.

    Ohio State moved into second place with 772 points after finishing fifth in fencing, ninth in both

    mens and womens basketball and 11th

    in mens swimming and diving.

    Penn State has 740.75 points with a runner-up finish in fencing, a 17th

    place showing in womensbasketball, 26

    thfinish in mens swimming and diving and a 33

    rdin mens basketball.

    North Carolina is in fourth with 717 total points. The Tar Heels turned in finishes of fifth in mensbasketball, ninth in womens basketball, 14

    thin mens swimming and diving and 19

    thin fencing.

    Florida State has earned 670.50 points to rank fifth overall. The Seminoles finished ninth in mensbasketball, 17

    thin womens basketball and 23

    rdin mens swimming and diving.

    The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Big Ten have each placed three institutions in the Top10. ACC institutions in the Top 10 include North Carolina, Florida State and Duke (sixth). Big Teninstitutions in the Top 10 are Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin (seventh).

    Eleven winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturingtitles: womens basketball - Texas A&M; mens basketball Connecticut; mens swimming anddiving California; fencing Notre Dame; womens ice hockey - Wisconsin; rifle Kentucky; skiing Colorado; womens swimming & diving California; womens indoor track & field Oregon; mensindoor track & field Florida; and wrestling Penn State.

    The Learfield Sports Directors Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NationalAssociation of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awardedbased on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 womens and 10 mens.

    The final Division I winter standings will be released Thursday, April 21, 2011.
