    When rep lac ing pa rts, use only ma nufac turers reco mm end ed c om po nents for safety.

    Chec k the cond ition of the p owe r cord. Replac e if wear or dam ag e is evident.

    Afte r servicing , b e sure to restore the lead d ress, insulation ba rriers, insulation pape rs, shields, etc .

    Before returning the servic ed eq uipme nt to the c ustom er, be sure to ma ke the follow ing insulation resistanc e test

    to p reve nt the custom er from b eing expo sed to a shoc k hazard.

    1 Safety Precaution

    Unplug the p ow er cord a nd short the two p rong s of the p lug with a jump er wire.Turn on the p ow er switc h.Mea sure the resistanc e va lue with ohmme ter betwee n the jump er AC plug and ea ch exposed meta l cab inet pa rt, such a ssc rew hea ds, ante nna, c ontrol shafts, hand le b rac kets, etc.Me asure the resistanc e va lue w ith ohmm eter be twe en the

    jump er AC pluga nd e ac h exposed me tal ca binet pa rt, suc h as sc rewhea ds, ante nna, c ontrol shafts, hand le b rac kets, etc .

    Equipm ent w ith anten na t erminals should rea d b etw ee n 2.7M a nd 3.9M to a ll expo sed pa rts*. ( Fig.1 )Equipment without antenna terminals should read approximately infinity to all exposed parts. ( Fig.2 )*Note : Som e e xpo sed pa rts ma y be isolat ed from the c hassisby d esign. These will read infinity.

    If the m ea sureme nt is out side the spec ified limits, there is a po ssibility of a shoc k hazard. The e quipm ent shou ld b e rep a iredand re-c hec ked b efore it is returned to the c ustom er.

    2 Before Repair and Ad justment

    3 Protec tion Circuitry

    The p rotec tion circ uitry ma y have op erated if either of the follow ing co nditions are notice d: No so und is he a rd w he n the po w er is turne d o n. So und sto ps d uring a p erfo rm anc e.The func tion of this c irc uitry is to p reve nt c irc uitry dam ag e if, for examp le, the po sitive a nd neg ative spe aker c onne c tionwires are shorted , or if spe aker system s with an impe da nc e less than the indica ted rate d imp ed anc e of the a mp lifier are used .If this oc c urs, follow the proc ed ure outlines below:

    1.Turn off the pow er.2.Determine the c ause o f the p rob lem and c orrec t it.3.Turn on the p ow er once ag ain after one m inute.

    Note :When the protec tion c irc uitry functions, the unit will not op erate unless the p ow er is first turned off a nd then o n a ga in.

    4 Prevention of Elec tro Static Discharge (ESD) to Elec trostatically Sensitive (ES) Devices

    Som e sem icond uc tor (solid state ) devic es c an b e da ma ge d ea sily by electric ity. Suc h co mp one nts c om mo nly are c alledElec trosta tica lly Sensitive (ES) Devic es. Exam p les of t yp ica l ES devic es a re integ rated c irc uits and som e field-e ffec ttransistorsand sem icond uc tor c hip c om po nents. The follow ing tec hniques should b e used to help red uc e the incide nc eof c omp onent d am ag e c aused by e lec tro static d ischa rge (ESD).

    1. Imme diately before hand ling any semico nduc tor co mp onent o r semico nduc tor-eq uipe d assemb ly, drain offany ESD on your bo dy b y touc hing a known ea rth ground. Alternatively, ob tain and we ar a c om me rcially ava ilab ledisc harging ESD wrist strap, w hichshould be rem ove d for po tential shoc k reasons prior to ap plying po we r to the unit undertest.

    2. After rem oving a n elec trica l assem bly eq uiped with ES de vices, plac e the a ssem bly on a c ond uc tive surfac e

    suc h a s aluminium foil, to p revent elec trostatic c harge build up or exposure of the assem bly.

    3. Use o nly a g round ed -tip soldering iron to solder or unsolde r ES devic es.

    4. Use o nly an a nti-sta tic solder remo ver d evic e. Som e solder remo va l dev ice s not c lassified as an ti-sta tic (ESDprotec ted) c an ge nerate elec trica l cha rge to d am ag e ES devices.

    5. Do not use freon-prop elled c hem ica ls. These c an ge nerate elec trica l cha rge s suffic ient to d am ag e ES de vice

    6. Do not remove a replac eme nt ES de vice from its protective p ac kage until imm ediately before you a re read yto install it. (Most rep lac em ent ES de vices are p ac kag ed with lea ds elec tric ally shorted to ge ther by c ond uc tive foam ,aluminium foil orc omp arab le c onduc tive ma terial).

    7. Imm ed iately before rem oving the p rote c tive mate rial from the lea ds of a replac em ent ES de vice, touc h theprote c tive ma terial to the c hassis or c irc uit assem bly into whic h the de vice will be installed.

    Caution

    Be sure no power is applied to the chassis or circuit, and observe all other safety precautions.

    8. Minimize b od y mo tions whe n ha ndling unpa c kag ed replac em ent ES de vices. (Otherwise ha rmless mo tionsuc h as the brushing tog ether of your clothe s fab ric or the lifting o f your foo t from a c arpe ted floo r ca n ge nerate staticelec tric ity (ESD) sufficient to dama ge an ES devic e).

    5 Handling the Lead-free Solder

    5.1 About lead free solder (PbF)

    Distinc tion o f PbF P.C.B.:P.C.B.s (ma nufa c tured ) using lead free solder will ha ve a PbFsta mp on t he P.C.B.

    Caution: Pb free solde r has a higher melting po int thansta nd a rd sold er; Typ ica lly the melting p oint is 50 - 70F (30 -40C) h ighe r. Please use a high t em perat ure soldering iron.In c ase of solde ring iron with tem pe rature c ontrol,plea se setit t o 700 20F (370 10C). Pb free solde r will tend to splash when he ate d toohigh (a bou t 1100F/ 600C) . When soldering o r unsoldering, plea se c om pletelyrem ove all of the solde r on the p ins or solder a rea , and besure to he a t the soldering p oints with the Pb free solder untilit melts eno ugh.

    6 Handling Prec autions For Traverse Deck

    The laser diode in the trave rse d ec k (op tic al pickup) m ay b rea k dow n due to p ote ntial differenc e c aused by static e lectricof c lothes or human b od y.So, be c areful of elec trostatic b rea kdow n during repa ir of the traverse d ec k (optica l pic kup).

    Hand ling of trave rse d ec k (op tica l pic kup)

    1. Do no t subjec t the traverse d ec k (op tica l pickup ) to static elec tricity as it is extrem ely sensitive to elec trica l shoc k.

    2. To prevent the b reakdo wn of the laser diod e, a n a ntistatic shorting pin is inserted into the flexible b oa rd (FFC b oa rd).

    3. Take c are no t to ap ply exc essive stress to the flexible b oa rd (FFC b oa rd). When removing or c onnec ting the short pinfinish the job in as short time as possible.

    4. Do no t turn the va riab le resistor (laser po we r ad justme nt). It ha s alrea dy be en a djusted .

    Grounding for elec trostatic b reakd own preve ntion

    1. Human bo dy g roundingUse the anti-static wrist strap to discharge the static electricity from your body.

    2. Work tab le ground ingPut a c ond uc tive ma terial (sheet) o r steel sheet o n the a rea whe re the trave rse d ec k (optica l pic kup) is plac e, and

    ground the sheet.

    Caution :The static elec tricity of your c lothes will not b e g round ed through the wrist strap. So, ta ke c are no t to let your clothes touch ttraverse deck (optical pickup).

    Caution when replac ing the Traverse DeckThe trave rse d ec k has a short po int shorted with solde r to p rote c t the laser diod e ag ainst elec trostatic s brea kdow n. Be sure remove the solde r from the short point be fore ma king c onne c tions.

    7 Prec aution of Laser Diode

    CAUTION:

    This unit u tilizes a c lass 1 laser.

    Invisible laser radiation is emitted from the optical pickup lens.

    Wavelength: 780nm

    When the unit is turned on:

    1. Do not look direc tly into the pic k up lens.

    2. Do no t use o ptic al instrume nts to loo k at the p ick up lens.

    3. Do no t ad just the p reset va riab le resistor on the p ickup lens.

    4. Do not disassem ble the op tica l pick up unit.

    5. If the optic al pick up is replac ed , use the ma nufac turers spe c ified replac em ent p ick up only.

    6. Use o f c ontrol or ad justme nts or pe rformanc e o f p roc ed ures othe r than tho se spe c ified herein ma y result inhazardous radiation expo sure.

    CAUTION!

    10.1 Disassembly flow chart

    10.2 Gea r for servic ing (jig ) Information

    1.-This unit has a ge a r which is used for c hec king item(Op en/ Close of d isc tray, up/ do wn o pe ration of traverse uniby m anua lly) whe n servic ing.

    2.-For preparation of gear (for servicing), perform thep roc ed ures as follows.

    3.-In c ase o f re-servicing the sam e set, the ge a r forservic ing m ay ha s be en ta ken off bec ause it has be en usedThe ge ar for servic ing must b e stored .

    Re mo ve the g ea r p ro vid ed w ith m ec ha nism c ove r a

    shown below.

    Insert the he xago nal sc rew driver (2mm ) into the g ea r, andthen p rojec t the tip of sc rewd river for 1~ 2 mm in length.

    10.3 Disassem bly o f Top Cabinet

    Step 1 Rem ove 2 sc rews at ea c h side a nd 5 sc rews atrear panel.

    Step 2 Lift up bo th sides of the top c ab inet, push thetop c abinet

    towa rds the rear and remove the top c ab inet.

    Step 1 Connect the AC pow er cord.Step 2 Press the POWER butto n to pow er up the ma in unit.

    Step 3 Press the OPEN/ CLOSE button , the d isc tray w ill op eautomatically.

    Step 4 Release the 2 claw s, and then remo ve the CD Lid.Step 5 Press the OPEN/ CLOSE button , the d isc tray w ill c lose.

    Step 6 Press the POWER bu tton to turn the pow er off. [Op ening the d isc tra y ma nua lly (Using se rvic etools)]

    Step 1 Insert the g ea r tool into the hole on the und erside o fCD c ha ssis and then rota te in the d irec tion of a rrow . The d istray w ill be op ened .

    Step 2 Relea se the 2 claw s, and then remo ve the CD lidcover.

    Step 3 Rep ea t Step 2 but rotate the g ea r tools in a nti-clockwise direction

    Step 4 The d isc tray w ill be c losed .

    Step 1 Remove 6screws and disconnect wire CN2810 (Fan)at rear ca binet a s show n.
