    Modern high performance machining needs a permanent advancement of all involved components. Succeeding generations of tool machines and machining tools are enabling therefore steadily shorter processing times on less average unit costs. But one weakness remains: The workpiece clamping! It gets more difficult to accomplish the current requirements with regular clamping systems.     In rotating applications with a required passage, the central air connection can be disturbing. Here we offer you the so-called backported chuck. This type of chuck is not supplied with compressed air through an air tube, but by bores, which are attached at the rear of the chuck. The compressed air required for operation is conducted either through holes in the machine spindle to the adapter plate (full through) or through an air tube that is connected to the adapter plate (partial through). From the adapter plate the air is routed through holes in the rear side of the chuck. Furthermore, this enables the installation of part stops or part ejectors in the chuck center. Due to the large number of possible adaptions, we are having this chuck type not individually in our catalog. Our sales technicians are happy to advice to your clamping problems.

    Special clamping devices for your specific requirements could get realized very well out of our MBS series because of its modular setup and the brilliant features. In the above showed chuck for example a mandrel got integrated. Because of this, several operations (ID and OD clamping) could get realized with one clamping system and the production process has been improved greatly.

    The MBS chucks are sealed and do not have any jaw guides. As a consequence of this, they are especially wear-resistant and suitable for machining of abrasive materials (e.g. carbide metal, ceramics). On thin-walled parts a surrounding clamping and a very sensitive adjustment of the clamping force are

    granting a non-deforming machining of the parts. The chucks are consisting of following, essentially components (MBS-L depicted):

    The MBS chuck opens for OD-clamping when the piston is moving forward, either by air pressure or by drawtube force. The chuck closes done by the re-deformation of the elastic diaphragm, depending on cases of applications additionally provided by pneumatic or draw tube actuated movement of the piston. At this, the clamping force can get featured very sensitive and flexible. For ID-clamping the function is reversed.

    The MBS diaphragm-clamping system is consisting of following components:

    Chuck body assembly Clamping set (Diaphragm / Top jaws / part stop)

    All diaphragm chucks have a pull down effect at clamping. For an exact axially position of the workpiece, we recommend axial part stop. The MBS clamping system could get equipped with a part stop spider / part stop plate with mounted stop pins or stop plates. For coolant supply through the chuck, nozzles are getting screwed-in the part stop spider. The coolant gets supplied out of the backside of the chuck to your workpiece. That is a big advantage especially at ID grinding or at the machining of small bores. On part families which have to clamped with a different number of jaws (e.g. showed in the right upper corner 3 and 5 jaws) or different diameters or rather axial clamping position, it‘s very easy to change the whole clamping sets and reach a very high changing accuracy. A gimmick for clamping the ID, our mandrel system MIS is available, which got actuated by the chuck body assembly MBS.

    The MBS-chucks are mounted with a separate adapter plate on the spindle nose of the machine. Through this, an adjustment and individual adaptation is given, depending on the type of machine. There are machine side ISO-standardized adapter plates and manufacturer-specific versions. MicroCentric delivers adapter plates in the following versions:

    ISO 702/I (DIN 55026): Adapter plate with short taper for screw-fastening completely machined ISO 702/II (DIN 55029): Adapter plate for Camlock-fixing completely machined with Camlock bolts ISO 702/III (DIN 55027/55022): Adapter plate for bayonet plate fixing completely machined with Bayonet bolts Adapter plates with cylindrical pilot (inside or outside) Special adapter plate designs

    Please let us know in your inquiry / order the ISO-standard and the size of your machine spindle. If you have a vendor-specific spindle connection, we need the following information:

    Number and size of mounting holes adapter plate to the spindle Bolt circle of the mounting holes adapter plate to the spindle Diameter and depth of the pilot or type of the cone Outside pilot or inside pilot

    In addition, more information about the requested processing distance to the spindle nose (can be influenced by the length of the adapter plate) and the available space in the work area of your machine (possibly limited size) is helpful.

    For connecting the MBS chuck to the drawtube of the clamping cylinder, a drawtube connector is used with the appropriate thread, which must be carried out depending on the machine type. The sizes 110 and 165 have a screw in drawtube connector located at the draw piece. The sizes 210 until 300 have a rotating drawtube connector By making a request / order please let us know the connection dimensions of the drawtube (end positions of the tube to the spindle nose and thread connections).

    Top jaws SMK (without through bore)

    The top jaws SMK are used in association with MMK diaphragms on chucks without through bores (MBS-L, MBS-Z) or vices (MBS-N). The jaws are made of steel and could get hardened inductively. The top jaws got screwed in from the front on the diaphragms, this grants a fast change-over of the top jaws. On chuck sizes 80, 100 and 125 1 Set top jaws consists of 3 pieces. From chuck size 150 and greater 1 set top jaws consists of 6 pieces

    The top jaws SMR are used in association with MMR diaphragms on chucks without through bores (MBS-L, MBS-Z) or vices (MBS-N). The jaws are made of steel and could get hardened inductively.     As part stop, a part stop spider got mounted on the diaphragm. On this part stop spider, bolts, plates or special shapes could get fastened, which are granting an exact axial positioning of the workpieces.

    By option, the part stop base plate ATR could get screwed in the chuck body, if caused by technical reasons a part stop spider is not possible or useful. By using the part stop base plate ATR fixed, sealed bolts are sticking out the diaphragm, which are servicing as axial part stop.

    Coolant Nozzle KMD

    To supplying coolant targeted to the position of machining, a nozzle could get screwed in the front of the chuck. There are several kinds of nozzles (after building size and impact way), which are available in stock!

    The loading pins are used for OD holding application to set the chuck in the required clamping position when machining top jaws. These sets are containing 5 loading pins with stepped diameters for an easy rework of machined top jaws.

    Loading Pins

    For manufacturing of top jaws for internal clamping, loading rings are used. For machining the jaws on the respective clamping position. All loading rings are hardened. Please name the type of your chuck for your order. Loading rings are available as single parts or sets which are consisting of 5 pieces. The loading ring sets have a stepped diameter for an easy rework of machined top jaws.
