The AGM is the best opportunity during the school year for all members of the school community to come along and hear about the great work and achievements that have taken place this year. The AGM is a mixture of informality and business. We start with a free community BBQ and drinks from about 6.00 pm and then at 7.00 pm we move into the Hall for a short formal meeting where reports from the various committees of Governing Council are received along with a report from the Principal and the GC Chairperson. We then receive nominations for some new members to the GC and elections take place. Expressions of interest in joining the various committees are also accepted. Free child care is available on the night as well. Attached to this Newsletter is a form to fill in and send back to the school to let us know of your attendance at the BBQ and/or the AGM and whether you are thinking of nominating or using the child care on the night. Please consider your possible involvement in this aspect of the school’s governance. I hope you are able to join us on the evening of the AGM and look forward to sharing the year’s successes and achievements with you. School Validation Exercise Every three years all schools if the public education system are required to take part in a ‘school validation process’. This is a site managed self assessment of our work, improvements and achievements over the last few years and is designed to enable the school to obtain feedback from a panel of external educators to guide our future planning and priorities. This validation will be taking place this Tuesday 13 th November and the Assistant Regional Director and some other DECD officers will comprise our review panel. Across this day many of our staff, some students and some parents will be speaking to the panel. I look forward to sharing the recommendations of this validation exercise with you later this term. At the last meeting of Governing Council a vote was carried out to decide the new name. Craigburn’s canteen will now be known as the ‘Café Craigburn’. This new name is part of the Canteen Committee’s plans to develop a new vision for our canteen to try to ensure its long term viability to provide this valued service to the school community. Keep watching news from the ‘Café’ as new menus and food options are announced in the upcoming weeks. Thanks to the Committee and the ‘Sues’ for their great work for our canteen.

Sports Expo This week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be holding our annual Sports Expo. Every day a section of the school will be participating in a variety of different sports activities and challenges. This program is in line with our commitment to encourage involvement and participation in sport and to experience different sports. It is always a favourite program for our students. Thanks to Karen Pettman and those other people who have coordinated this event. Term 4 continues to pass at a frightening rate and there are still many special things planned for this term. Please ensure you have noted the dates for our Celebration Night and the early dismissal time at 12.30pm on the last day of the year.

Best Regards Jeff Wait - Principal

Concert Band Workshop Jack K (flute) and Darcie G (clarinet) participated in a Primary Schools Concert Band 2 day Workshop at Ridley Centre Adelaide Show Grounds last week. There were nearly 200 students involved from across country and metropolitan S.A. Last Thursday night they performed the repertoire they had been working on over the 2 days. The concert was very entertaining and the students enjoyed playing music from diverse genres – Lady Gaga, Grease to tradional Russian Folk songs, jazz and my favourite “If”. Well done Darcie and Jack!

Digital Piano For Sale We are upgrading the Digital Piano in the music room and selling the 12 year old Yamaha Clarinova. It is a very sturdy instrument and has a full 88 keyboard. We have had it valued at $300 and thought we would offer it to families in the school before we advertised more widely. Please see me a.s.a.p. if you are interested or email [email protected].

Music is Fun On Thursday some children from Miss Tonkin’s class were part of the performance. We were Gummy Bears!

Government House Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Reception 50 scouts from the whole of south of Australia have been chosen to be an honour guard for His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales and Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, better know as Prince Charles and Camilla, on the 7th of November. Remarkably 3 of these scouts were chosen from Craigburn Primary School, Georgia H, Justin Pand Kara Parsons. This was a very private event so we had to have an official invitation and photographic ID to get in. This event was held at Government House. Friends of the Royal’s were invited as well as SA Olympians, Para-Olympians and foodies such as Maggie Beer. When the Royals came out of the house to the garden party they got mobbed. Camilla and Charles slowly made their way around the garden through the mob and gave most guests a handshake. Justin and Kara shook Prince Charles’s hand and Justin had a short chat with him. Georgia shook hands with Prince Charles and Camilla and had a

chat with both of them. Prince Charles’ handshake was VERY firm unlike Camilla’s which was very soft. Georgia got interviewed about her chat with the couple by a reporter. It was a very exciting event to participate in and as scouts we also formed the Honour Guard down the drive as the Royal couple left. Every scout was given a commemorative certificate and a limited edition badge commemorating the Queens Diamond Jubilee. This was an event we will never forget.

Try 4 tasty delicious meatballs on a warm roll, sprinkled with cheese and your choice of Sweet chilli, BBQ or Tomato sauce. Great value for $3.50. On Tuesday 20th November we are supporting Pyjama Day by selling our own style of Cold Rock Ice-cream. At lunch time you can buy 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream (in a bowl) with a variety of different toppings such as Ice Magic, Sprinkles, crushed up violet crumble just to name a few! All this for only $2.50. We would like to say a special thank-you to Tracy Moroney who answered our SOS call in the last newsletter. Tracy has volunteered to work 1 day per week for the last 3 weeks due to lack of helpers and we really appreciate her help. We have a small number of regular helpers who are fantastic but they can only do so much. If anyone in the school community has a spare day, please let us know by giving us a call (82704568) or popping into the canteen and we will add you to our volunteer list for next year. Your children will really love to see mum at school!

Thank you Sue and Sue - Canteen Managers
