1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 WHAT IS A GSM LINK UNIT FOR LIFTS?

A GSM link unit for lifts is a telephone terminal that uses the public GSM network as its means of communication. It needs to be included in the remote-alarm installation of a lift if no telephone landline is available. It works as a transmitter, providing the telephone line that the remote alarm needs to communicate with the rescue service.

The unit generates a local telephone line (PTN) to connect the remote alarm to as if it were a public-network landline. GSM link units need to be powered from the mains or by batteries.

1.2 REGULATIONS

The limits of application of the EN 81-28 standard Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts. Remote alarms on passenger and goods passenger lifts are set out in Annex A of this standard. The same limits are also applicable to the standards EN 81-1 and EN 81-2 with reference to call-for-help equipment (see 14.2.3) in installations using a remote alarm as defined in these standards.

Figure 2 shows how the transmitter is one of the items that lie outside their scope of application.

Many people are under the mistaken belief that if an installation is accepted by a Notified Body under the lifts Directive 95/16/CE, this means it complies with all the relevant regulations. The GSM link equipment is not the two-way intercom or remote alarm specified by the EN 81-28 standard, but rather the transmitter for the mentioned alarm.

A GSM link unit is a telephone terminal and, as such, must comply with Directive 1999/5/CE (R&TTE) on radio-electric equipment and telecommunications terminals. Dielro GSM-20 complies with these requirements and, having been designed for the lifts sector, is equipped will

all features necessary to meet the requirements of Directive 95/16/CE on lifts, since it is a unit that is prepared to transmit calls for help, which must be dealt with quickly and in any situation to guarantee the safety and health of users trapped in the lift. Directive 95/16/CE requires that whenever a lift is used sufficient functioning time of the communication system must be assured under any circumstances, regardless of the status of the battery, temperature or other factors.

1.3 RESPONSIBILITIES FOR GSM LINK EQUIPMENT

A GSM link is a telephone-terminal unit. It does not form part of the public telecommunications network, so the telephone provider has no responsibility for it.

The manufacturer, as with any product intended for the EU market, is under the obligation to guarantee that the product is designed and manufactured in accordance with the essential requirements of the applicable European New Approach directives, and to make the relevant conformance assessment in accordance with the procedures set out in the directives: Directive 1999/5/CE, on Radio-Electric and Terminal Telecommunications Equipment; Directive 89/336/CEE on Electromagnetic Compatibility; and Directive 73/23/CEE on Electrical Safety.

The manufacturer is also responsible for fitting the CE Marking, indicating that the product complies with all the applicable requirements and has undergone the relevant conformance-assessment procedures.

Once the equipment is on the market, the owner and company responsible for maintenance are solely liable for its use.

1.4 CAN ANY GSM LINK UNIT BE USED AS A TRANSMITTER? As specified under Section 3 of Directive 1999/5/CE on telecommunications equipment, in order for a unit to be used as a transmitter it must meet the following essential requirement:

Protection of the health and safety of the user or any other person, including the safety requirements included in Directive 73/23/CEE, except with regard to voltage limits.

In this case, the health and safety of persons, as required by the lifts Directive 95/16/CE, consists of guaranteeing sufficient functioning time to allow rescue services to come to the aid of persons trapped in the lift. This is because the unit is equipped to make calls for help, which must be dealt with quickly and under any circumstances. In other words, the call for help must be guaranteed every time the lift is used, regardless of the battery status, temperature or other factors.

2. WARNINGS

2.1 GENERAL WARNINGS

! This unit must not be installed in the open air or in places that are particularly damp or dirty or where it could be exposed to liquids, corrosive substances or the risk of impact. GSM-20 units have been designed for use in interiors.

! Do not expose the unit to extreme temperatures; do not position in places near heat

sources, ventilation grilles, etc.

! Do not expose the unit to flames of any kind or cigarettes.

! Do not install the unit on walls or in enclosed spaces containing large quantities of metal, such as steel or wiring.

! Installation must be carried out as indicated by Dielro. No cables, add-ons or accessories

other than those specified should be used.

! Do not attempt to open the unit. Any undue tampering will lead to the loss of the guarantee.

! Select a place with good coverage.

! Before relocating the unit, disconnect it from the power supply and ensure that the

batteries are disabled.

2.2 RF EMISSIONS GSM-20 units by Dielro have been designed not to exceed the RF-exposure limits fixed by national authorities and international health organisations.

SAR measurements are applicable to products used next to the human ear. Since GSM-20 units are not intended for use next to the human body, since they must be sited at least 20 centimetres away from the telephone terminal used to communicate, and the radiation power rating is under 3 W for frequencies over 1.5 GHz, SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) limits are not applicable to GSM link units.

2.3 GSM INTERFERENCE

In order to avoid GSM interference, place the unit at least 3 metres away (horizontally) from any electronic equipment such as household appliances, TV sets or radios. The vertical distance should be at least 2 metres.

2.4 AERIAL

! Use only aerials designed specifically for Dielro GSM-20. The use of unauthorised aerials could damage the equipment and may breach the regulations by causing RF emissions that are above the recommended limits.

! Do not hold or touch the aerial while the unit is functioning.

! Do not start to operate the equipment if the aerial or the aerial cable are damaged.

! Do not position the telephone wire or the power lead near the aerial or the aerial cable.

2.5 ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Nowadays many pieces of electronic equipment are protected against RF emissions, although some are not. We therefore advise you to follow these guidelines:

! Do not use GSM-20 in places near any medical equipment without seeking the necessary permission in advance.

! Do not use on aeroplanes.

! GSM-20 units may cause heart pacemakers to malfunction at close distances.

! Some hearing-aid equipment may suffer interference in close proximity to a GSM-20 unit.

2.6 POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES

! Do not use GSM-20 in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres, such as petrol stations or areas containing particles in the air: dust, chemicals or metal particles.

! Do not transport or store inflammable gases or explosive liquids in areas where a GSM-

20 unit has been installed.

2.7 POWER SOURCE

! Ensure that the power source has a proper ground connection to provide adequate protection against electrical discharges.

! Connect the power lead only to a power source that meets the specifications for the unit.

! Never handle the power lead or plug.

! To reduce the risk of damaging the power lead, disconnect it by holding and pulling out

the plug, never by pulling the lead itself.

! If a large number of electrical devices are connected to the AC mains supply used to power the unit, the equipment may be subjected to a high level of interference.

3. CONTRIBUTIONS

Dielro GSM-20 combines an innovative design with a reduced size (194 x 93.6 x 54.3 mm) and an extensive range of features. Our device features:

! 2 GSM/GPRS providers on the same unit

! PSTN connection (optional)

! Smart backup power-supply management

! Analysis of a large number of settings Besides functioning as a transmitter for alarm calls, it can also be used to send warnings generated by the lifts operation.

DTMF (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) dialling consists of assigning a specific frequency to each row and column of the telephone keypad, so that each character is unequivocally identified by two frequencies, corresponding to its row and column positions (see Table 1). When the user presses one of the keys, two tones are sent, corresponding to each of these two frequencies.

This system improves on pulse dialling by reducing the possibility of errors in dialling, since it does not depend on a mechanical device; it is also faster.

However, the transmission of DTMF tones over GSM links using a basic telephone network interface (analogical telephone service) may give rise to certain problems:

! Non-transparent transmission

! Filtering of the fourth DTMF column

! Non-linear distortion of tones

! Appearing of echoes, return loss and reverberation

! Other types of electromagnetic interference Dielro GSM Link units take these issues into account and guarantee the reliability of the transmitted tones.

3.1 NON-TRANSPARENT TRANSMISSION

Some GSM equipment, when they detect a DTMF tone at the basic-telephone interface, do not transmit it directly via the GSM link, but filter it and internally generate a tone of the same frequency but with a fixed level and duration (usually 500 msec), which generally differs from the original one.

This variation means that packets with tones lasting 100 msec or less, sent by equipment connected to GSM links, are transmitted very slowly, in many cases being truncated by overflow of the stack of tones to be transmitted.

Dielro GSM links respect the original DTMF tones from the basic-telephone interface, altering neither their level nor their duration.

3.2 FILTERING OF THE FOURTH DTMF COLUMN

Besides the tones associated with the keys 0 to 9, * and #, DTFM dialling has a fourth column of characters identified by a frequency of 1,633 Hz. Although this column is not usually included on standard telephone keypads, it is used by many systems in their internal communication protocols. Such systems include Dielro 102, 103 and 104.

Certain GSM links filter out fourth-column tones, inserting in their place a 500 msec pause, making it impossible for other tones or voice signals to be transmitted during that time, as well as preventing communications from being established with systems using these DTMF characters.

Moreover, some GSM links use these tones for remote-setup purposes, so this filtering could lead to faulty functioning as a result of de-configuration issues.

Dielro links respect the transmission of DTMF tones corresponding to the characters A, B, C and D in the fourth column of the basic-telephone interface, without altering them or including any additional pauses in the audio signal being transmitted, so the configuration of the GSM link remains unaffected.

3.3 NON-LINEAR DISTORTION OF TONES OWING TO THE VOCODER The transmission of audio signals over a GSM link is based on a digitalisation and compression process that has been especially designed for voice signals. The links vocoder (voice encoder/decoder) makes these signals suitable for the low-speed network (under 10 Kbps) without causing any significant loss in intelligibility.

However, unless the full rate transmission mode is used, the vocoder is unable to encode/decode other kinds of signals properly, such as DTMF tones or harmonic signals produced by modems (V.21, V.23 and above) and fax machines (group III).

Problems with other transmission modes, such as the HF (half rate) used by the GSM 06.10 standard described in ETSI EN 300 969, EFR (enhanced full rate) mode or the AMR (advanced multi-rate) mode used in the USA, occur because during the negotiation stages before the communication is set up, the telephone provider may propose to the link that a below-standard transmission speed be used, requiring the use of a low-speed vocoder.

If this speed is accepted during negotiation, it will be impossible for the DTMF tones to be

transmitted correctly, because the vocoder used in these modes uses VSELP coding, which causes a shift in frequency.

Dielro GSM links respect the frequency of the DTMF tones transmitted and received by the GSM network from the basic-telephone interface, since the communication always attempts to establish communication in full rate mode, using a high-quality vocoder, as specified under the GSM 06.10 standard described in the ETSI EN 300 961 V8.1.1 standard. Spanish providers have implemented this standard for all GSM stations since 2000.

3.4 APPEARING OF ECHOES, RETURN LOSS AND REVERBERATION

The two-way transmission of audio signals over a conventional telephone pair requires the use of complex impedance or a SPLIT to prevent the signal received by the earpiece of the handset from being resent with the signals captured by the microphone.

Although all analogue telephones include this, most GSM links on the market do not assure that complex impedance or an internal SPLIT circuit will have sufficient rejection for the signal sent to the earpiece of the analogue handset not to retransmit it down the telephone channel.

When this occurs, at the other end of the communication an echo is heard, which, if it is of sufficient amplitude, may disturb the information transmitted, since besides the signal itself the delayed signal is received with the double latency of the channel. This phenomenon may be repeated several times, with interfering echoes causing a rather troubling reverberation.

To avoid this problem, GSM links include a digital echo override based on the LMS algorithm, although many times the default setup has this override disabled or enabled with a lower level of efficiency than is necessary. They may also be set up to directly retransmit any tone received, leading to malfunctioning of the system.

In the light of this situation, it is necessary for the telephone terminal connected to the GSM link to have been adapted to the characteristic impedance of the link (which varies by country).

Dielro GSM link units are fitted with a high-rejection SPLIT circuit that prevents any return loss at the basic-telephone interface. It is also equipped with a highly efficient echo override to prevent the GSM signal received from being retransmitted.

The characteristic impedance of all Dielro models (Dielro 10X, PC Interface and Dielro GSM link) has been carefully selected for them to be adapted, ensuring that return loss is within the limits specified under the TBR-21 standard (under -12 dB).

3.5 OTHER ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE (EMI) CAUSED BY THE LINK

The use of GSM links involves the transmission of RF signals of up to 2 W in the 900 MHz waveband. Certain links on the market are not sufficiently screened and produce interference on the basic-telephone channel if the aerial is too close to the link. To avoid this problem, the aerial must be kept at a certain distance from the link.

Dielro GSM link units have been designed to incorporate shielding, and an advanced screening process is applied to their printed circuits, enabling the aerial to be connected directly to the GSM link, making it much simpler to install.

4. DESCRIPTION

Dielro GSM-20 is a GSM link that has been purpose-designed to be used in combination with remote alarms for lifts that operate in accordance with the EN 81-28 standard. They have all the necessary features to assure the health and safety of lift users at all times, as required under Directive 95/16/CE.

To achieve this, they include the following features:

" Two mobile providers (two SIM cards):

Allowing up to two SIM cards from two different providers, if required to be used dynamically. Thanks to this feature, if the first providers coverage should fail, a second emergency provider can be used.

The card(s) is/are accessed from the outside, without any need to open the unit.

" Real-time checking of both GSM cover and the power supply.

" Lift stop:

If the system fails and the correct functioning of the link is compromised (lack of coverage for both SIM cards or general power failure: mains and battery, SIM failure, GSM network failure, etc.), Dielro GSM-20 connects the local PTN line (CN4) to the exterior PSTN telephone line to provide the remote alarms with an alternative communication channel.

If the PSTN line is operational, all calls will be made over that line. If it is not operational, as soon as the local PTN line is disconnected, Dielro 103 generates a lift shutdown to put the lift in out-of-service mode. When the incident has been resolved, the local line and lift are restored to normal service.

" Smart power system:

The unit is normally powered from the mains via a power pack. It is also fitted internally with two Li-Ion battery arrays, which on being connected are automatically recognised by the equipment, as is their capacity.

From this moment onwards, and alternately, it will monitor the charging and discharging of each set and its corresponding levels. The system does not take a voltage measurement of the batteries, but rather uses a complex calculation algorithm based on the temperature, charge/discharge time, current, cycles and other parameters to be able to determine the maximum operating time, regardless of the time of year or the batteries state of conservation.

Both arrays also have temperature probes to monitor charging and discharging. They are also fitted with a heater to extend their working range when ambient temperatures are low. The risk of explosion is also controlled by means of a redundant temperature management system.

" Network duality:

• GSM network. (GSM EGSM 900 and GSM 1800 bands).

• PSTN network. As an optional extra, the unit can be fitted with a connection for the PSTN analogue telephone network, Public Switched Telephone Network (L. EXT. Optional), compatible with TBR-21 and most European telephone providers.

" Internal line:

The unit is equipped with a POTS interface, Public Old Telephone Service (L. INT), compatible with the Dielro 103, 102, 104, etc. range of equipment and with DTMF-tone dialling telephones.

" Text messages (SMS)

The unit is capable of sending and receiving text (SMS) messages.

• Dielro GSM-20 reports any incidents occurring by sending text messages. The following incidents are reported: battery(ies) overcharge, battery(ies) charge level under a certain threshold, low coverage, power failure, etc., as well as the recovery of all these parameters.

• The unit can also be programmed by means of text messages.

" TRP (Transmitted Relay Process) Technology:

TRP technology (Dielro International Patent) makes it possible to connect multiple devices using a single telephone line, without the need for additional buses or power supplies, just the telephone pair itself, covering distances of several hundred metres between units with a simple yet secure connection.

" Local or remote setup

" Two-way voice communication:

It can be initiated from the unit itself or remotely from any telephone with DTMF-tone dialling.

" Remote operation assisted by a voice interface:

An audible help menu is available to simplify the operation with the unit. In manual mode, the telephones own DTMF keypad is used to communicate with it, although it is possible to use a PC running GT-Dielro software for more extensive control.

" Aerial:

It can be operated with attached external two-band aerials or with extensions.

5. POWER SUPPLY SYSTEMS

The unit is equipped with a redundant power-supply system:

! 12 V DC input.

NOTE: use only power packs supplied by Dielro.

! Twin Li-Ion internal battery (see photograph in Figure 3).

Dielro GSM-20 will automatically recognise the state and capacity of the battery or batteries. In addition it will monitor the charging/discharging of each battery.

The internal batteries are protected, since their temperature, voltage and current are all monitored.

The unit is fitted with an additional temperature probe to monitor the charge and available capacity in the event of a power failure. They are also fitted with a thermostat heater to extend their range of operability.

6. OPERATION

When the GSM-20 is used in a lift installation in combination with a Dielro 103 unit, priority will always be assigned to calls made by the remote alarm in either of the following two situations:

- Alarm notified;

- Alarm triggered.

Therefore, communications by the remote alarm have priority over other features, and any incoming technical calls are disabled.

6.1 OPERATING MODE FOR VOICE CALLS

• Incoming calls:

The unit answers incoming calls received over the GSM line(s) and routes them directly to the internal POTS line.

• Outgoing calls:

The unit can be set up for outgoing calls to be made via:

- The GSM network

- The PSTN landline (optional), if available.

If the unit should be out of range, or if its batteries are flat or in any other unforeseen circumstances, if a PSTN line is available (optional), it will be used to make emergency calls, even if these have been set up to be made via the GSM network.

6.2 SETTINGS ASSESSED TO ESTIMATE AVAILABILITY AND STAND-ALONE OPERATION

The unit makes an assessment of the availability of GSM networks and the stand-alone operating time in the event of a power outage, based on the following parameters:

" Concerning each GSM network (each SIM):

! GSM network coverage;

! No. of relay stations shown (according to the model);

! No. of providers available;

! Level of coverage;

! Coverage statistics.

" Concerning the units hardware:

! Initial battery capacity and charge status;

! Number of charge/discharge cycles accumulated;

! The battery’s capacity history;

! Battery temperature;

! Average power used (dependent on coverage).

7. PROGRAMMING AND CONTROL MODES

Dielro GSM-20 can be programmed and controlled locally or remotely.

" Programming in Local mode:

! Via a tone-dialling telephone directly connected to the unit.

" Programming in Remote mode:

! Via Incoming Call;

! Via text (SMS) messages;

! Using the GT-Dielro software.

Whichever mode is selected, the equipment is programmed by means of functions. Depending on the value assigned to each function, the unit will behave in one way or another. Functions are divided into two groups:

" GROUP 1 functions: those related to the general functionality of the equipment.

" GROUP 2 functions: those related to calls.

All the Dielro GSM-20 functions are listed in Function Tables I and II in Appendix I.

The unit offers voice messages for manual control and programming purposes. Programming and monitoring of the equipment are password-protected.

7.1 LOCAL PROGRAMMING

To set up Dielro GSM-20 in local mode a telephone with DTMF-tone dialling is needed. This telephone must be connected directly to the unit via the CN4 connector (internal line), as shown in Figure 5. See Section 10.1, Accessing menus from a telephone connected to the unit.

7.2 REMOTE PROGRAMMING The unit can be programmed remotely in several different ways.

7.2.1 PROGRAMMING VIA INCOMING CALL Programming via incoming call can be achieved by calling the unit from another location using a telephone with DTMF-tone dialling, as shown in Figure 6. Once the call has been connected, the unit can be programmed using the telephone keypad.

7.2.2 PROGRAMMING BY TEXT MESSAGES Dielro GSM-20 can be programmed from a mobile telephone by sending text messages (SMS) to the unit. See Section 11, Programming and reading functions via text messages (SMS).

7.2.3 PROGRAMMING WITH GT-DIELRO APPLICATION The unit can be programmed by the Technical Service by computer, using the GT-Dielro software. The process is explained in detail in the GT-Dielro User’s Manual.

8.2 BUTTONS 8.2.1 Button P1

This is an external button with the following functions:

1. Whatever the situation of the unit, when P1 is pressed any warnings generated are cancelled and any warning delivery processes are aborted.

22.. If the unit is in a Lift Shutdown situation, holding P1 pressed for 3

seconds overrides this situation for a period of 5 minutes, after which, if appropriate, the unit will return to its previous status.

3. By holding P1 pressed for 10 seconds, the unit changes the

status of function 20 in group 1 (battery-use function) from 1 to 0 or from 0 to 1. This makes it easy to change the value of the function when intending to use a unit that has been in storage or vice versa, without having to access the Setup Menu.

9. INITIAL START-UP As the unit is supplied, the batteries are not connected (since function 20 on the Setup Menu - Group 1 is set to 0). This allows the unit to be stored without any rapid decrease in the capacity of the batteries while the unit is in storage.

To enable the use of the battery-power system, the value of this function must be changed to 1, otherwise if the mains power supply is disconnected, the unit will stop functioning.

Enabling function 20 is not recommended until the use of the battery-power system becomes necessary, i.e. once the unit has been installed. It is also advisable to disable this function before the unit is removed, replaced or otherwise put out of service.

The value set for function 20 can be changed in two ways:

" From the Setup Menu, as with all the units other functions;

" By holding the external button P1 pressed for 10 seconds.

9.1 CONNECTING THE UNIT If the installation is equipped with an external PSTN line, it is advisable to connect CN7 directly to this line. Any other devices (modem, fax, telephones, etc.) should be connected to this outside line via CN8. Devices connected to CN4 (PTN) always use the internal line for both sending and receiving GSM calls (to or from the GSM network). The internal line is also the one used to access the units internal menus. If coverage from both providers is lost, or if neither of the SIM cards is operational, Dielro GSM-20 switches all units connected to CN4 to the exterior PSTN line automatically. It does this by disconnecting any devices connected to CN8 from the exterior PSTN line. This assures the exclusivity of the outside line for the CN4 units for the duration of any GSM-connection anomaly. Two scenarios may occur:

- Exterior PSTN line disconnected:

If the GSM system fails, the units cannot communicate. If this occurs with Dielro 103 units, they generate a lift shutdown until at least one of the GSM lines becomes operational again.

- Exterior PSTN line connected:

In this case, the PSTN line connected to CN7 will be present at CN4. Thus, any units connected to CN4 will be able to make and receive calls over the exterior line exclusively (unlike those connected to CN8).

In both cases, if you want to access the units Main Menu in this situation, you must hold the P1 button pressed for about three seconds, until CN4 switches to internal line mode. The units menus can now be accessed. After a period of five minutes has elapsed, the PSTN line returns to the connector CN4.

9.2 FITTING THE SIM CARDS Before fitting the SIM card(s), the corresponding PIN must be programmed on the unit (this is not necessary if the PINs have been overridden). This is very important, because the unit will initially attempt to access one of the SIM cards and if the PIN entered in three consecutive tries is incorrect, the SIM card will be blocked. The functions that contain the PIN numbers of SIM cards 1 and 2 are 05 and 06 in group 1, respectively. The default value set for both PIN numbers is 1234.

- The SIM cards must be inserted (ensuring that they have been fitted properly in place) before the unit is powered up. Once powered up, the GSM-20 will automatically register them on the network.

- To remove the SIM cards, press the button located on the left of each slot.

To study and record the coverage history of both SIM cards, the unit regularly switches between the two of them (if two have been enabled) for a certain period of time, provided that it is possible to receive calls (because the coverage is sufficient, etc.). If the unit works with the two SIM cards indistinctly, in order to prevent calls made to the SIM card that is disabled at any given time from being lost, it is essential to activate call diversion with each provider between the two numbers of the SIM cards. To determine which SIM card is enabled at any time, check the status of LEDs L2 and L3. While the unit is operational, the LED L5 must always be on (steady or flashing, depending on the situation). Remember that L4 indicates the current coverage of the SIM card selected. NOTE: we recommend the use of SIM cards under contract. Prepaid cards may also be used, although it is essential to enable automatic recharging of credit for a prefixed minimum level.

9.3 LED SEQUENCE WHEN STARTING UP THE UNIT

The LED sequence when starting up the unit is shown in Table 3.

9.4 INITIAL PROGRAMMING OF THE UNIT The unit is set up to operate correctly with no need for any further programming, although it is advisable to take the following recommendations into account:

" If the GSM-20 is going to be connected to other Dielro units or any alarms, fax machines or other automatic devices, functions 02 and 04 on the Setup Menu-Group 1 must be set to 0.

"" If the GSM-20 is going to be used exclusively to connect telephones and make voice calls, these functions can be enabled (by assigning them the value 1).

10. MENUS The various ways of accessing the unit to perform setup operations are described in Section 7, Programming and Control Modes. Setting up in local mode or by incoming call is achieved via a series of menus:

# Main Menu; # Setup Menu; # Query Menu.

The options available on each menu, and the process for switching between menus, are explained in the following sections.

10.1 ACCESSING MENUS FROM A TELEPHONE CONNECTED TO THE UNIT With the unit in standby mode, connect a telephone with DTMF-tone dialling to the internal PTN line, i.e. to connector CN4, as shown in Figure 10.

" Accessing the Query Menu:

On the telephone keypad press #xxxx, where “xxxx” is the units Access Code. The Access Code is stored in function 00 of group 1. The value 1234 is assigned by default. From this menu, go to Section 10.4: Query Menu.

" Accessing the Setup Menu:

On the telephone keypad press #*xxxx, where “xxxx” is the units Access Code. From this menu, go to Section 10.3: Setup Menu.

10.3 SETUP MENU The operation of Dielro GSM-20 is based on a number of functions. The Setup Menu allows you to access setup submenus 1 and 2, from where you can adjust the units settings. As mentioned above, all the Dielro GSM-20 functions are described in the Functions Table in Appendix I. When you access the main Setup Menu, you will hear the following message:

11. SETTING AND CONSULTING FUNCTIONS VIA TEXT MESSAGES (SMS) The unit can also be set up via text messages (SMS) sent to the unit from any mobile telephone. In order to use text messaging for setup purposes, function 16 in group 2 must be enabled on the unit. The method of setting up GSM-20 via text messages offers a high level of security, since only a reduced number of authorised persons will have access to the Direct SMS Programming Access Code, referred to as CA_SMS. This six-digit code is stored in function 07 of group 1. For security reasons it can be neither consulted nor reset by SMS. Authorised personnel with access to the CA_SMS code should follow the procedure described in Section 11.1, Direct programming with the CA_SMS code. If you do not know the CA_SMS code, you must ask an authorised person for a provisional code, which will only be valid for the length of the programming session. In this case, follow the procedure indicated in Section 11.2, Programming by opening a work session with a provisional access code. The GSM-20 does not accept messages sent from concealed numbers.

11.1 DIRECT PROGRAMMING WITH THE CA_SMS CODE Programming is carried out by sending text messages (SMS) in the format described in SSeeccttiioonn 11.3, Text message formats for programming, using the CA_SMS code. If at the time the unit is working under a session opened by someone with a provisional access code, that session will be closed and, if necessary, the user will be informed that the provisional session has been closed by an authorised person.

11.2 PROGRAMMING BY OPENING A WORK SESSION WITH A PROVISIONAL ACCESS CODE 11.2.1 OPENING A WORK SESSION Requests for a provisional access code to programme the unit by SMS must be addressed to the relevant authorised personnel (i.e. those with access to the direct CA_SMS code). The authorised person will open a session, sending the following text message to the unit:

When the unit receives this message it generates a provisional six-figure code at random, known as CA_SMST. This code will be used to identify the session. If another session is already open, it will be closed to allow the newly requested session to be opened. As we have seen, the authorised person indicates in the request message the mobile telephone number of the person to whom the unit is to send the provisional code. The unit sends this code in a text message to the mobile telephone number indicated.

Programming session open: (CA_SMST) Once the work session has been opened, the person with access to the CA_SMST code can use text messages to programme the unit. These messages must have a certain format and always include the ID code corresponding to the session. See Section 11.3, Text message formats for programming. If no valid programming text message is received, the unit will close the session 30 minutes after it began. If a valid text message is received during that half-hour period, the session will be extended for a further 30 minutes following receipt of the message. While a session is open the unit will not switch between SIM cards. If the coverage of the enabled SIM card should fail during the session or if the card stops working, the session will be closed automatically and the unit will attempt to reconnect to the GSM network via the other SIM card. As soon as the unit is operational again (with at least one of the SIM cards registered), the following text message will be sent to the telephone whose session was interrupted:

Unit on line. Session aborted following coverage failure 11.2.2 CLOSING A PROVISIONAL WORK SESSION The unit will close the work session in any of the following situations:

1) If the unit needs to switch out of standby mode (because it has received a call from the exterior or needs to make a call itself, etc.), the session will be closed automatically.

2) If 30 minutes have elapsed without any valid programming text message having been

received.

3) If an end of session order is received:

where abcdef is either of these codes: CA_SMS or CA_SMST.

4) If a message is received containing the CA_SMS code. Once a session has been closed, if the unit receives a programming text message that contains the CA_SMST code for the last session opened, it will reply with this message:

12. REPORTING OF INCIDENTS The Dielro GSM-20 can be set up to report certain kinds of incidents. These warnings can take the form of a telephone call and/or a text message (SMS).

12.1 REPORTING OF INCIDENTS BY CALLS To activate this feature, enable function 10 in group 1. The kinds of warnings that are issued by calls depend on the values assigned to functions 22, 23 and 24 in group 1. Warnings are issued by means of a sequence of report calls to certain preset destination telephone numbers. Once a certain incident has taken place, and if it corresponds a type of incident that has been set to be reported by means of calls, the unit will dial the preset telephone numbers in sequence, beginning with the first one. If there is no reply, it will call the second number, and so on. Once a full cycle of calls has been completed without any reply being obtained, the unit will pause for a period of time set by means of function 20 in group 2. Once this period of time has elapsed, it will begin to make a new cycle of calls. If it still receives no reply, it repeats the process until the preset number of cycles has been exhausted. Report calls are made only for the latest incident to occur. If during one of the calls the internal telephone is picked up, the call will be interrupted. If the warning has not yet been reported, it will be sent later, with the record of the number of tries reset to zero. A warning will only be considered to have been delivered when its receipt at its destination has been confirmed. The only way to cancel a warning in progress is by directly pressing the P1 button on the unit, if you have access to it. The full setup process for incident-report (warning) calls is described below. Notes:

• Before proceeding with steps 2 and 3, see Functions Table I in Appendix I. • Before proceeding with steps 5, 6 and 7, see Functions Table II in Appendix I.

confirmation. You may indicate a maximum of ten functions; ! Press * (if not all 10 destinations are used) and then the number of call cycles that you

want the unit to make. This number must be between 01 and 20; ! Next, in order of priority, enter the codes for the networks that are to be used for the

calls. The code for the GSM network is 0. So, for n destination telephone numbers and GSM calls, the sequence would be as shown

12.1.1 HOW INCIDENT REPORT CALLS SHOULD BE DEALT WITH AT THEIR DESTINATION When the destination picks up, a cyclical message will be issued:

“Press 9” When the person picking up the call presses 9 on their telephone keypad, Dielro GSM-20 will send the following message:

“GSM-20, Unit (ID Code (F03)), Warning (Internal temperature/GSM/Power supply) (warning number).

Press 9” Note: in order to consult the incident that corresponds to each warning number, see tables 4, 5 and 6 under Section 12.3, Warnings List. Once the person who answers the call presses 9 again, the warning is considered to have been delivered and confirmed. The unit now returns to the Main Menu, and the following message is heard:

“Main Menu” If 9 is not pressed, the delivery of the warning is not considered to have been confirmed. In this case a new cycle of calls will be made from the beginning.

12.2 REPORTING OF INCIDENTS BY TEXT MESSAGES To activate this feature, function 11 in group 1 must be enabled. The type of warnings made by text messages (SMS) depends on the values assigned to functions 22, 23 and 24 in group 1 (see Functions Table I in Appendix I). The warnings are issued by text messages sent to certain destination telephone numbers. These numbers must previously have been recorded in functions 50 to 69 in group 2. Also, function 10 in group 2 must be set to indicate which of these functions are the ones that contain the destination telephone numbers to which warning text messages are to be sent. Notes:

• Before proceeding with steps 2 and 3, see Functions Table 1 in Appendix I. • Before proceeding with steps 5, 6 and 7, see Functions Table II in Appendix I.

Steps to follow:

13. CALLS The Dielro GSM-20 can both make and receive calls.

13.1 MAKING VOICE CALLS Pick up the telephone handset connected to CN4 on the Dielro GSM-20 unit and wait until you hear the dialling tone (CPT). Dial the telephone number of the desired destination.

Making voice calls The destination telephone number may be of any length, although the time between the dialling of two consecutive digits cannot be greater than the setting for function 22 in group 2. After this time, the unit will stop dialling and will call the number entered so far. If, once the destination number has been entered, you wish to tell the unit to proceed to call without waiting for the time preset for function 22 in group 2, press # after the last digit. In order to do this, function 23 in group 2 must be enabled. Once the call has begun, either of the following two situations may apply:

a) Neither of the SIM cards is operational:

You will hear the following message from the telephone earpiece:

The false call signal will then be heard, waiting for the user to hang up the handset.

b) At least one SIM card is operational:

There are four possible cases in this situation:

! Destination busy: the message “Destination busy” is heard, followed by the

busy signal, waiting for the user to hang up the handset; ! Destination not operational: the message “Destination not operational” is

heard, followed by the false call signal, waiting for the user to hang up the handset;

! Destination operational: the ringing tone is heard until the destination

answers; ! No reply: the unit waits for the destination to pick up for the preset maximum

time, during which the ringing tone is heard. If after this time no reply is received, the message “No reply from destination” is issued.

If you do not want the above messages to be issued, disable function 24 in group 2.

13.2 RECEIVING CALLS When the unit is called, the caller hears a ringing-tone sequence. For the first few seconds the Main Menu of the GSM-20 can be accessed by pressing the combination: *#. Otherwise the unit will begin to call the units connected to the PTN (CN4). Incoming calls are transparent when a call is received from the GT-Dielro management application to Dielro units connected to the PTN (CN4). When the telephone terminal is picked up:

- if function 02 is disabled, the unit switches directly to voice communication, with

no call identification; - if it is enabled, the unit reports on the origin of the call by issuing one of the

following voice messages:

“Call from number xxxxxxxx” If the number called matches the one programmed for function 65 in group 1, the

following message will be heard: Technical service call.

13.3 OPTIONS AVAILABLE DURING VOICE COMMUNICATIONS

The Dielro GSM-20 can be set up for certain options to be available once a voice communication is established. To do this, it is necessary for function 04 in group 1 to be enabled, because otherwise the unit is transparent to any DTMF tone issued during the course of the call. Once this function has been enabled, the following options are available during voice communication. By pressing on the telephone keypad:

! 0 Mute: From the telephone terminal we can hear but we cannot be heard at the other end of the line. While this state persists, a repetitive beep is issued every n seconds. By pressing 0 again, mute mode is disabled.

! 1 Adjusting the sensitivity of the microphone: You will hear the message: “The microphone sensitivity is X%” Every time 1 is pressed, the microphone sensitivity increases. Once the maximum level has been reached, by pressing 1 again the setting will return to the initial percentage.

! 2 Adjusting the gain of the loudspeaker: You will hear the message: “The loudspeaker volume is Y%” Every time 2 is pressed, the volume increases. Once the maximum level has been reached, by pressing 2 again the setting will return to the initial percentage.

During voice communications:

- If the person on the other end of the line hangs up, a false call tone will be heard.

- If the person talking from the telephone connected to the GSM-20 unit hangs up, the call (regardless of whether it is incoming or outgoing) will remain active for several seconds. During this time the unit sends out a false call tone but admits and analyses received tones. This means that when the conversation ends the unit can be contacted from the other end of the line to access the Main Menu.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if the GSM-20 is used to connect other Dielro units, function 04 must always be disabled.

14. DISCONNECTING THE UNIT

To disconnect the unit completely, before switching it off from the mains, ensure that function 20 in group 1 has been set to 0 (battery-use function). Remember that the value of this function can be reversed simply by holding the P1 button pressed for 10 seconds, with no need to access the units setup menus.

To verify whether the unit has been switched off properly, check that the green LED goes off and stays off.

LIFT SHUTDOWN Although it has already been mentioned in previous sections, it is appropriate to remind that when using Dielro GSM-20 with other remote-alarm equipment in the installation of one lift or more:

• If the exterior PSTN line is not connected, and the GSM system should fail, the remote- alarm units will not be able to communicate. If this occurs with Dielro 103 units, they will generate a lift shutdown until at least one of the GSM lines becomes operational again.

• If the PSTN line is operational, the units connected to CN4 will be able to make and

receive calls on that line (unlike those connected to CN8).

If you wish to access the units Main Menu in this situation, you must hold the button P1 pressed for about three seconds, until CN4 switches to internal line mode. The units menus can now be accessed. After a period of five minutes has elapsed, the PSTN line returns to the connector CN4.

Character-packet program which indicates the sequence the unit will follow for incident-warning calls (destination telephone numbers, number of cycle repetitions and networks to be used for warning calls).

RECORDING THE FUNCTION

To enter this data, proceed as follows:

1. From Setup Menu 2, press 00 You will hear two beeps. 2. Enter, in order of priority, the numbers for functions 50 to 69 (each function corresponds to a recorded telephone number) in this group containing the telephone numbers to which warning calls are to be made. Each time a destination is entered you will hear a confirmation beep. Up to 10 destinations can be entered, but you must press * after the last one if you enter less than ten. After entering all the destinations, you will hear two beeps. 3. Next, enter the number of cycles that you want to repeat the previous sequence of destinations if there is no reply from any of the numbers (enter a value between 01 and 20). You will then hear two beeps. 4. Now enter, in order of priority, the networks that are to be used for these warnings. The current version of the unit uses only the GSM network, corresponding to value 0. After pressing 0 you will hear a beep. Finally, press # to save the packet. You will hear two confirmation beeps. After entering the first digit of the first destination and before entering the first network, you can abort further data entry by pressing #. If you do this, the data entered so far will be discarded and you will hear a lower-tone beep to confirm the cancellation.
