Exercise + fitness

What are common causes of unhealthy eating habits?

Common causes

• Dysfunctional family situation.• Family not eating meals together.• Poor eating habits modeled by guardians.• Lack of knowledge about what is healthy to eat• Busy schedule• Extreme amounts of traveling• Lack of desire to eat healthy• Poverty• Depression and other emotional extremes

High in refined, or processed, sugar, fat, oil and meat. By eating these foods, people began to get fatter - and sicker.

Western diet

• As the world’s population grows, experts say more forests and tropical areas will become farmland for crops or grasslands for grazing cattle.

Environmental consequences• These areas will be needed to meet the

increasing demand for food.

• Mass commercial farming destroys environments

Pesticides run off into rivers, excess farming and tilling damages the soil for future generations and erodes the land.

Environmental consequences• waste management issues (waste runoff, the

awful smell) as well as methane emissions.

Human factor

How do we solve this?• Buying organic foods locally, free of pesticides

and hormones.• Organic farmers rotate crops, preserve

biodiversity, and use natural manure and fertilizer that enrich the soil. +Supports local economy.

• Supports environmental efforts (and getting healthier, tastier food).

• Bringing your own bags to the grocery store.• Grow it yourself!• Recycling waste = compost.• Change in our habits and lifestyle.

Environmental factor

How do we solve this?

• Inefficient livestock production in the developing world has a lot of room to improve.

• Improve animal diets so = more protein with better feed = reducing emissions.

• “sustainable intensification”• Demand management. Better control of higher

demands.
