Characteristics of an Innovation

• Relative Advantage

• Compatibility

• Complexity

• Trialability

• Observability

Page 10: diffusion of innovation

Relative AdvantageThe degree to which an innovation

is perceived as better than its predecessor.

Page 11: diffusion of innovation

CompatibilityThe degree to which an innovation

is perceived as being consistent with existing values, past experiences and needs of potential adopters.

Page 12: diffusion of innovation

ComplexityThe degree to which an innovation

is perceived as being easy or difficult to adopt.

Page 13: diffusion of innovation

TrialabilityThe degree to which an innovation

may be experimented with prior to adoption.

Page 14: diffusion of innovation

ObservabilityThe degree to which the benefits (+ and -)
