FrontI want my front image to be of a forest with individual trees so that the background can be seen between them allowing there to be a variety of colours from the difference in lighting up close and at a distance behind them. The picture, dependent on the time when I take it, will either show the sun behind the trees as it is setting or have darker colours due to the later timing of the day. I have chosen this image as I believe it fits with the genre of the music best as well as fitting with the theme that we are going for with the music video. The main colours from this image will be green, brown and blue which I will need to carry on to the rest of the digipak. I am either going to use this cover plain or have the letters of the band name ‘Spirit’ in between the tree as seen with the album cover ‘Tow’rs’. However, I want mine to be brighter and show some element of the sun to suggest that there is something mysterious about the location. This is taking inspiration from Ellie Goulding’s album covers where special effects are used to make the artist appear more magical and spiritual. Not only will this represent this but also the name of the band and the kind of music they create. I want the colour of the text to fit with the colour scheme of the image but equally I do not want this to distract from the image which is the main focal point. Therefore, the letters will either be a pale white or will be based on a colour that is taken from a part of the image. I may use a box or lines to separate the text from the main image so it fits better with the rest of the cover and does not look out of place and so it fits with reason. From the pictures I have looked at there is one thing that makes them different from each other, the colour. In some green is the main focus and is shown in the background as well as in the forefront of the leaves. Some the sun has been magnified so that the main colour is gold/yellow and in others there is a distinct element of editing and increasing the effect given through the sunset . This is seen through the pink image of the trees which is more unusual and so makes it unique. I want my overall front cover to be attractive and unique rather than an image that anyone could take.

Inside & CDInside my album cover I am going to have a more simplistic styling and keep the theme very minimal. I want the inside of my album cover to be a shot of the forest, so that it still ties in with the rest of the album, but mostly plain. I will achieve this by taking an image of just the top of the tree, showing some leaves but mostly sky. This will allow me to input some information on the left hand panel about the band and about the album as well as putting the main focus on the design of the CD. On the right hand side, behind the CD there will be a similar design to the left but opposite so that the overall appearance is attractive and symmetrical. I want the main attraction to be the outside of the album case but the inside will still be interesting and unique through the design of the case. It will also be eye catching for the audience as they will want to find out the information inside of the album and about the band/filming process of the song. I have taken inspiration for this section of my album cover from existing cases where they have used writing on the left panel so that I know it will be successful and clear. Traditionally the CD is always on the right with the focal point on the left, this is what I am going to recreate. The front of my CD will be green, the colour being taken from the front cover with white text. The text will be the lyrics of the main song that will feature on the album, wings. This will make it more attractive and unusual so that it stands out amongst the plain background.

Back & SpineOn the back of my album cover I am going to include the name of the songs alongside an image of my artist. I want the back of my CD album to be a long shot of the back of my artist in front of the forest seen on the image on the front of the album cover. This will allow me to position the names of the tracks on the album to the left of the back of the cover so both objects are in focus and significant. The back of my cover will have the same colour scheme and styling as the front but the image may be in less detail/slightly out of focus to portray it is a secondary image in comparison to the front. Also, this will allow me to display the text in a clear and professional way so that it is easy to read. The back will be significant as it will allow the audience to find out more about the album and therefore it will be good to include an image of the artist. The back of the cover should also include a barcode so that the item can hold the relevant product information as well as some legal information about the production company etc. I have looked at some current examples of where this has been used so I know that it should work successfully. I will need to consider the layout of the objects within the frame when I take the image for this part of my album as not only do I need it to match with the front of my album but I want the writing to fit well and not look out of place. The spine of my album will be simple following the same style as the front and back of my album cover. I will only include the name of the band on the side of the album as I feel this will allow the spine not to look too overcrowded but still providing all of the information needed. The spine will either be an extension of the image or a block colour with one taken from the main image to ensure they flow well. This will be used then to sync the front and the back of the CD album and to ensure the album follows the same mise-en-scene throughout. The text should be similar the one used for the front of the album cover but on a smaller scale.

Magazine advertFor my magazine advert I want to use the image that I have for my album cover in the same shape and size and then at the bottom of the image fade it to black. I want the bottom of the poster to be black so I can include information about the band and the album that is clear and stands out. I have seen this technique used on many other posters to display the extra information and I believe it looks good and professional as it ties in with the album cover and the colour does not look out of place. I have tried doing this on a variety of colours by using the dissolve filter with a plain, black text box. This is positioned at the bottom of the image and then I need to move around the different points of colour until the bottom of the image is fully black and the transition looks smooth and isn't noticeable. On the poster I will include the band name and the name of the song that the album is specific for, as well as any extra information such as quotes by people who have enjoyed it and upcoming gigs/events. I have decided to use a dark colour scheme for my image so that the fade looks more effective and less random. Also, if I have one specific element such as a sun glare or strips of light then it will highlight this and make them look more striking. The dark image will look mysterious and relate to the genre of music and the band of the band well. The text on the front of my image will be the same font and style as that on the album cover however, the information at the base of the magazine advert may be a different font to signify the difference for example, if it is a quote from someone else I may use the same font but in italic or bold.

I have decided to use ‘Letter gothic Std’ as I believe this fits best with my theme and overall appearance of my music album/magazine advert. I will use this with capital letters and various sizes on my album and advert to show significance.
