Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy DigipakThis eight panel digipak is the deluxe version of this album, which makes a statement in itself that digipaks are of a higher standard then the traditional pearl cases we are used to seeing. Digipaks are also more effective in portraying an artists personality as Kanyes’ obsession with high class art and fashion are evident when looking at this album.

These four panels which carefully read KANYE WEST act as pockets for the CD’s and posters.

Selection – The album artist Kanye West has chosen to give the consumer a choice of what they want to look at on the front of the album, making it more personal. This I believe is so that the audience can feel connected with the artist and the product so that they feel they are being satisfied.

Organisation – The 5 pieces of art are all the same despite the main centred image which shows continuity, these can be slotted into the picture frame and is what makes up the album cover

Focus – The artwork chosen that is held inside the picture frame is the main focus. I feel that Kanye is trying to make his audience engage in art the same way that he has and by offering a variety he is accommodating for peoples personal opinions

Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III SELECTION: The front cover shows the artist as a baby wearing a suit, jewellery and bearing tattoos on his face, a theme used across his four “Tha Carter” titled albums. The dominant colours are red and black.ORGANISATION: The artist has chosen a rather traditional album layout with a front cover design, track list at the rear, CD inside with various images of himself etc. This shows he wants to promote his own image as well as his music. The layout doesn’t really break away from the norms album designs.

FOCUS: This is quite obviously on the front cover image. This is a very outlandish statement as it is not something the viewer would be used to seeing, which makes perceptions to what type of genre it is without even listening to it (RAP). The overriding colours red and black connote that the artist lives a gambling lifestyle, taking risks through his life to reach where he is today.

Kanye West- GraduationORGANISATION: Opens from the left side instead of the right, a rather Manga-like structure to possibly tie in with the Japanese artists designs and conventions. CD, track list and poster have all been placed inside the available pockets.

FOCUS: This album focuses heavily on the artwork itself which is evident from the fact that all of the space is dedicated to the images and not much else.

SELECTION:The artwork chosen is very specific and representative to the artist and the main theme of the album (GRADUATION).
