Our visitors from Georgia included Mr. Zurab Cheli- dze, Mr. Giorgi Dapkviashvili, Mr. Lasha Darsalia, Ms. Natia Kuprashvili, and Mr. Ivane Makharadze. They were accompanied by Ms. Keetevan Gviniash- vili-Reaves and Mr. Matchavariani. Our president, Julie Bringelson with English Language Officer Ms. Teresita Bernales, Ph.D. and Mr. Teopisto Enoy Elnas, Jr. Mr. Teopisto Enoy Elnas, Jr. spent sever- al days in Grand Island visiting with a va- riety of local people involved with elec- tions. He met with representatives from the Hall County Democratic and Republi- can Parties as well as other officials and was able to observe voting in the primary election. He gave a brief presentation to a Sr. High school Social Studies class.

The visitors heard a presentation on “Promoting Entrepreneurship and Small Business Develop-ment” and met with the owners of the Nebraska Mushroom, LLC, a unique new company that raises commercial mushrooms. They also has a tour of Standard Iron plant and met with Gloria Thesenvitz, President and owner of Nova Tech, a Biological Production/Research La-boratory Manufacturer.
Law Enforcement in the U.S. was the topic for a group of men who were associated with the Lebanese Security
Forces. Their program included a tour of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and a MILO demon-
stration. They also met with Grand Island Police Chief Steve Lamken and participated in a “ride along” with

We were excited to be chosen to host the first ever project highlighting the power of food as an agent of diplomacy. Our visitors visited Kathleen Broers Culinary Arts class at Grand Island Sr. High where they cooked for the students. They also visited Northwest High School where they met with the FFA. The next day they visited the Grain Place Foods, Inc. and ate lunch prepared by Chez Fayne Petersen chef and owner of Crea-tive Cuisine.

Our visitors from Malaysia had appointments with Jennifer Larson at the Literacy Council and Penny Holloway and staff with the Adult Basic Education program at the Community Center. They toured The Great Platte River Road Archway near Kearney. They also met with Kris Burling, Director of English Language Acquisition and Migrant programs and Amanda Levos, Migrant Coordinator for Grand Island Public schools. Tours of several of the local schools allowed the visitors to see classrooms in action.

Mr. Lorbes met with staff from KHAS-TV, KLON-
TV,KRGI-AM, NTV, and KHAS/ KLIQ Radio. At Hastings college he met with Dr. Sharon Brooks,
Associate Professor of Communications and English and members of the media, faculty, and students to
discuss ethics, investigative journalism and teaching. He met with Chief Steve Lamken and with FBI
agent Mike Wagner.
Up-Coming Events The first six months of 2013 will bring the national annual meeting, the local annual meeting, and we hope several groups of visitors. There are no scheduled visits yet, but the program group under Roger Andrews’ leader-ship is working to find groups to visit Grand Island.
