Motor phase connectIonsThe drive output is a three-phase PWminverter that converts thedC buss voltage(+HV)intothreesinusoidalvoltagewaveformsthatdrivethemotorphase-coils.Cableshouldbesizedforthecontinuouscurrentratingofthemotor.motorcablingshouldusetwisted,shieldedconductorsforCecompliance,andtominimize PWmnoise coupling into othercircuits.Themotorcableshieldshouldconnecttomotorframeandthedriveframegroundterminal(J6-1)forbestresults.

dIgItal hall sIgnalsHall signals are single-ended signals thatprovideabsolutefeedbackwithinoneelectricalcycleofthemotor.Therearethreeofthem(u, V, &W) and theymay be sourced bymagneticsensorsinthemotor,orbyencodersthathaveHalltracksaspartoftheencoderdisc. They typically operate atmuch lowerfrequenciesthanthemotorencodersignals,and are used for commutation-initializationafter startup, and for checking themotorphasing after the amplifier has switched tosinusoidalcommutation.

GroundInGa grounding system has three primaryfunctions: safety, voltage-reference, andshielding. as a safetymeasure, the Pe(Protectiveearth)groundatJ1-3willcarryfault-currents fromthemains in thecaseof an internal failure or short-circuit ofelectronic components.Wiring to this istypicallydonewiththegreenconductorwithyellow stripe using the same gaugewireasthatusedforthemains.Thiswireisa‘bonding’conductorthatshouldconnecttoanearthedgroundpointandmustnotpassthrough any circuit interrupting devices. All of the circuits on J1, and J2 are mains-connected and must never be grounded. TheframegroundterminalsatJ1-3,J1-4,J2-1, J4-1, J5-1, and J6-1 all connect to

thedrivechassisandareisolatedfromalldriveinternalcircuits.Signal grounding references the drivecontrol circuits to those of the controlsystem.Thesecontrols circuits typicallyhavetheirownearthconnectionatsomepoint. To eliminate ground-loops it isrecommendedthatthedrivesignalgroundbeconnectedtothecontrolsystemcircuitground.Whenthisisdonethedrivesignalvoltageswillbereferencedtothesame0Vlevelasthecircuitsinthecontrolsystem.Smallcurrentsflowbetweencontrolleranddrivewhen inputsandoutputs interact.Thesignalground is thepath for thesecurrentstoreturntotheirpowersourcesinbothcontrolleranddrive.ShieldsoncablesreduceemissionsfromthedriveforCecomplianceandprotectinternal circuits from interference dueto external sources of electrical noise.because of their smaller wire gauge,these should not be used as part of asafety-ground system.motor cases canbesafety-groundedeitherat themotor,byearthingtheframe,orbyagroundingconductorinthemotorcablethatconnectstoJ2-1.Thiscableshouldbeofthesamegaugeastheothermotorphasecables.
