The Gift of a Cow Tail

Switch

A West African Tale

Page 3: Digital storytelling

A great warrior did not return from the hunt. His family gave him up for dead, all except his youngest child who each day would ask, "Where is my father? Where is my father?"

Page 4: Digital storytelling

The child's older

brothers, who were magicians, finally went forth to find him.

They came upon his broken spear and a pile of bones.

The first son assembled the bones into a skeleton; the second son put flesh upon the bones; the third son breathed life into the flesh.

The warrior arose

and walked into the village where there was great celebration.

He said, "I will give a fine gift to the one who has brought me back to life."

Each one of his sons cried out,

"Give it to me, for I have done the most."

"I will give the gift to my youngest child," said the warrior. "For it is this child who saved my life. A man is never truly dead until he is forgotten!"

Folk Tale Project

Go to the website below and read four (4) of the stories.

http://www.storyarts.org/library/nutshell/index.html

After you have read the four stories, choose one to use as your project.

Page 12: Digital storytelling

Select the story by clicking and dragging your cursor from the beginning to the end of the story. Once it is selected, go to the toolbar and under “Edit, Select “Copy””

Page 13: Digital storytelling

Now return to your PowerPoint and click on the slide you created.

Under “Edit” this time select “Paste” and the story will appear on the slide.

(If the lettering is too big, click on it and choose Control + A to select it all. Then you can choose the font size that will fit.)

Page 14: Digital storytelling

Now separate the story into at least four parts and paste each part on a separate slide.

(To create a new slide, go to the toolbar and select “Insert New Slide”)

Page 15: Digital storytelling

Once you have pasted the story on the pages, go to clip art or to the internet and find illustrations to help tell your story and paste them in. Create a beginning and ending page for your story.

Finally, save your story to a flash drive and read it as you show it to the class on the Promethean.
