Digital Teaching Platform T2K: Multi-Year Usage

Action Research Proposal PlanLoyola UniversityTime to Know or T2K is our schools DTP of choice!

Are Digital Teaching Platforms (DTPs) in for the long haul? Several schools have embraced contemporary educational styles by embracing digital teaching platforms in the classroom. One trending DTP is called Time to Know or T2K for short. Shabach! Christian Academy has adapted this comprehensive learning system. This transition from hardback books to visibly attractive dashboards allows students to scroll onscreens far more often than scribing on sheets.

My Personal Connection to T2KIt was thesummer of 2012 whenthe building waswired for Wi-Fi connection on all student laptops, units were purchased and programmed, teachers began a series of trainingsand the newdigital teaching platform for 4th and 5th grade Math and ELAwas piloted for our school. It's name:Time to Know. This platform has been in use for three yearsand has since been extendedthrough 8th grade. I serve the 4thand 5thgrade students at SHABACH! I am responsible for introducing 4thgraders to the new technology and continuing the use of this technology with the 5thgraders. We are departmentalized, so while I teach Math on the DTP, I also have a partner who teaches ELA using the DTP.

The DilemmaWhile much energy has been invested in seamlessly proving how to get technology into our classrooms; now, much time and energy must be used to diagnose what we do after that to sustain the impact of technology so that it lasts.

The Big QuestionIn moving from traditional approaches to more contemporary attempts to educate our youth, dothe gains obtained andreported in student achievementremain after the first year of implementation?

Lets Investigate! Who learns more, the newbies or the veterans?4th GradersFirst Year Users of T2K DTP5th GradersSecond Year Users of T2K DTPVS

Research Question 1:When working with the digital teaching platform Time to Know, do students experience any change in thelevels of achievement they accomplishduring their first year of usage as opposed to theirsecond year of useas measured by assessment tools aligned with common core standards from Time to Know?

One Step FurtherIs everybody happy?4th GradersFirst Year Users of T2K DTP5th GradersSecond Year Users of T2K DTPVS

Research Question 2:Dothestudents' attitudes aboutthe digital teaching platform change or stay the same from the initial year to the second year of use?

The Literature has been reviewed and the scholars agree

Dependent Variable:Student Attitudes and Achievement

You can do it!

Measure it! Measure it! Measure it!

Making It All Make Sense!Collect, Organize and AnalyzeData!

Make It Matter!Show colleagues, principals, and parents what youve learned in a way that demands attention!

Findings Worth KeepingBoth grade levels experienced increase in achievement using the DTP.4th graders had a higher achievement range than 5th grade students by at least 2 percent for every student.Attitudes of both 4th and 5th graders were extremely positive as it relates to their perspectives, experiences, and ideals toward math and technology.
