Diploma in Innovation Management at Australian School of Business

Who is this program for? This program is available for UNSW domestic undergraduate students of all faculties. If you wish to develop knowledge and skills in areas such as creativity in enterprises; business principles; business planning for new ventures; funding; management and commercialisation of intellectual property; and valuation and assessment of innovative businesses, this program may be for you.

The program will engage you in exercises to help you set up and run your own new ventures and participate in case studies with Australian and international entrepreneurs. The lectures, workshops, case studies and tutorials in each of the courses are delivered by university academics and expert industry and government professionals.

The Diploma is administered through the Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) in the Australian School of Business. The CIE’s principal ambitions are to improve the quality of innovative thinking in Australia, and to stimulate entrepreneurial skills in students. The CIE helps innovators prepare to face the challenges of an increasingly dynamic commercial world in the form of targeted coursework, internships, and networking events that offer real world experiential learning and interaction.

The Diploma in Innovation Management is a unique multi-disciplinary program, which is undertaken concurrently with your degree program at UNSW. The program aims to encourage you to explore your entrepreneurial mind-set and provides you with the knowledge and skills needed for developing business opportunities and commercial innovation.

How do I apply?Step 1: You need to have completed 36 UOC

and have a minimum 65 WAM or higher (as required by uour home faculty)

Step 2: You need to visit www.cie.unsw.edu.au and complete the application form

Step 3: You need to have signed approval from your home faculty to undertake the Diploma

Step 4: Submit your completed application to [email protected] or deliver to CIE Office, Australian School of Business Building

Having only studied in the Science Faculty, I saw the diploma as a great opportunity to experience ASB, creating greater connections within UNSW.

The Diploma saw me asking questions and challenged me in ways differently from my Bachelor degree courses. The Diploma helped steer my career direction as I am fascinated by entrepreneurial activity in the food and related industries. I am now studying my Master of Philosophy where I am researching strategies for reducing obesity. This is a pathway I never thought I would take when I started university and it was influenced by the Diploma in Innovation Management.

This program is designed so graduates learn to innovate from within an organisation as well as launch their own ventures. The emphasis is on experiential learning, paired with foundational knowledge obtained in the classroom. The fact that we constantly receive phone calls and enquiries to place our students in exciting internships is evidence of the demand for the unique skills and aspirations that our students have developed through CIE. I wish there were programs like this when I was completing my degrees.
