DirectSOFT32 programming softwareOur powerful Windows-based programming packages make it easy for you to program andmonitor your PLC system. We offer several differentpackages, from our full support PC-PGMSW thatprograms all of our products, to single familysupport packages.

DSData serverWould you like to use one of your standard Windowspackages, such as Excel to exchange data with yourPLC? If so, check out the DSData Server. Basically,it acts as a translator to allow you to use most anyDDE or OPC-compliant software to exchange datawith our PLCs.

VIADirectVIADirect UltraLITE is a powerful add-on packagethat works within AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT. By adding pull-down menus, a toolbar, and simpledialog boxes, AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT are transformed from drafting packages into tools specifically designed for creating electrical control schematics.

Youcan view or download the QuickStart manual.Which package is right for you?The programming software packages share the same generalfeatures, but there are a couple ofkey differences.

• PC-PGMSW programs all of ourCPUs (DL05, DL105, DL205,DL305, and DL405). If you’re a system integrator or OEM who usesone or more of our product lines,then this package is the rightchoice.

• PC-PGM-305, PC-PGM-205 and PC-PGM-105 only programs theirrespective product families exceptfor the PC-PGM-105 which pro-grams both the DL05 and DL105.That is, PC-PGM-105, programs theDL05/105 Micro PLC, PC-PGM-205only programs the DL205 CPUs,and the PC-PGM-305 programs theD3-350 CPU only.

Please note, you cannot upgrade the PC-PGM-350,PC-PGM-205 or PC-PGM-105 packages to supportany other product families.

Number of usersThe packages listed above arereally “single-station” packages.That is, you can legally installthem on only one computer.However, if there is only oneperson who primarily uses thecomputer (over 80% of the time),then you can install the softwareon a laptop, home office, or anyother single backup computer. Ifyou need more flexibility, or youneed to install multiple copies inmany areas, then check out ourSite Licenses.

Laptop/portable computersand off-site usageMany of you may be using laptopcomputers for field service work.This is perfectly acceptable aslong as it adheres to the guide-lines described above.

Can I ship a copy to my customer?No, except for a single backupcopy, you cannot make, install, ordistribute any additional copies.You can transfer the original copy(original cd, any applicableupgrades, and any documenta-tion) with our written consentprior to the transfer.

Of course, this means you cannotlegally keep a copy once you havetransferred the original. Somemachine builders and OEMs arerequired to ship a copy of the PLCprogramming software with everymachine. If this describes yoursituation, then see our OEMlicenses. The OEM license allowsyou to ship an inexpensive copy ofthe software with every machineyou sell.

UpgradesYou can receive maintenancereleases at no charge by down-loading them from our Web site.These do often include somefeature enhancements along withsoftware corrections. Any releasethat contains major featureenhancements will be subject tothe normal upgrade charge ineffect at that time. The launch windowThe Launch Window is a central-ized location to view not only allof your DirectSOFT32 applica-tions and projects, but also anyadditional applications such asOperator Interface software,Program Conversion packages,etc. This window is also used tocreate and manage PLC pro-grams and the communicationsbetween your pc and the PLC.

Point and click editingOnce you have started a new project, there are afew different ways to start building your program.The Ladder Palette, which is floating and can beresized and repositioned anywhere on yourdesktop, contains most of the instructions. Simplyclick on the icon or use the Hot Key associated withthat icon. Some instruction have to be accessedthrough one of the Browser icons. The Browserscontain all of the necessary information fromvarious boxes, coils, and contacts.

On-screen viewsDirectSOFT32 allows you to keep different views to track program functions. You can have multiplewindows open that provide you with;all of the addresses used in theprogram, Mnemonic view of theprogram instructions, all of theinstructions used, just to name a few.

Support for drum instructionsIf your PLC supports Drum Instructions, you willlike this feature of the programming software.Simply fill in the top of the drum with outputs andconfigure each step with an event and/or time-based element. Click on the output boxes tochoose the proper output states for each step andyou are finished.

PID viewDirectSOFT32 offers and excellent PIDfeature. The loop and trending screensare very easy to configure. This featurehas all of the views, trending, andtuning that you need to easily and suc-cessfully setup your PID loop.




Site License

OverviewIn some larger installations (or ineducational institutions) there areoccasions when you have severalpeople who each need access to acopy of the programming soft-ware. Of course, you could alwayspurchase individual copies, butthat can be expensive, especiallyif the software is only being usedfor occasional troubleshooting orsystem maintenance. A SiteLicense package for DirectSOFTProgramming Software is avail-able. This program is designed forthose who need to install the soft-ware on multiple machinesthroughout a single location.A site license provides many ben-efits over purchasing separatesingle user licenses. The SiteLicense package programs allDirectLOGIC families of PLCs(and many compatible PLCs).

Package contentsThe Site License package containsone CD and one set of documen-tation. You can use this CD toinstall the software on themaximum number of PCsincluded in the site license. Youcan make copies of the documen-tation, or you can purchase addi-tional copies.

Number of usersEach package is designed for aspecific number of concurrentusers. So, you may be wonderingwhich license is right for you. Thelicense defines a 'user' assomeone who uses the softwaremore than 20% of their normalworking hours. This means thateven though you purchase a 5-user license, you are actuallyallowed to have many otherpeople who occasionally use thesoftware. This is especially usefulfor technicians who only use thesoftware for troubleshooting ormaintenance on a random basis.

Can I ship a copyto my customer?No, the Site License is notintended to allow you to shipcopies of the software to your cus-tomers. If you need to do this,check out our OEM Licenses.

Portable computersand off-site usageMany of you may be using laptopcomputers for field-service work.You can install the software onthese machines as long as theirpermanent residence remains atthe Site. It is perfectly acceptableto allow your engineers or techni-cians to take computers to jobsites or remote office for occa-sional use.

UpgradesMaintenance releases are pro-vided at no cost by ordering themor downloading them from theWeb. The maintenance releasesprovide bug fixes, corrections,and support for new release PLCs,but do not include any featureenhancements. Any release thatcontains feature enhancementswill be subject to the normalupgrade charge in effect at thattime. Here’s an example: Let’s sayyou purchased a 5-user licenseand two years from now you seean advertisement that showssome exciting new features.Rather than purchasing a newSite License, you would simplypurchase 5 upgrade packageswhich would allow you to upgradeall of your packages at the site.

OverviewAn OEM license program for theDirectSOFT32 ProgrammingSoftware is also available. Thisprogram is designed to allow youto ship an inexpensive limitedversion of our powerful softwarewith every machine you build!

Tailored packagingEach package supports a singlefamily of PLCs. For example, ifyou purchase the DL205 OEMLicense package (PC-D2OEM),you get support for the DL205family of products. PC-D3OEMsupports the DL305 family only,and PC-D4OEM supports theDL405 family only.Note: It is not recommended to use an OEMpackage for your development system due to theslightly reduced feature set and single familysupport. It is recommended to purchase PC-PGMSW.

What is includedYou will receive 5 complete sets ofsoftware when you purchase thelicense. Each set includes a pro-duction CD and a complete set ofuser documentation. Unlike somevendors, with our package there’sno need to make your owndiskettes or copies of the usermanuals. Instead, you provide aprofessional-looking package thatyour customer can appreciate.

Extra copiesOnce you have purchased thelicense, you can purchase extracopies at an even further dis-count. You can purchase an extracopy that is tailored to the exactproduct you are using.

Password protectionProtect the many hours of hardwork in designing and trou-bleshooting your customer’smachine by using the passwordutility. Using the passwordutility included with the OEMpackages, you have the ability toadd your own password to eachpackage that you send out thedoor. You can even completelyrestrict program editing capac-ity if necessary.

IMPORTANT! The OEM versionsalways allow the customer to atleast view the program. The pass-words only affect the ability to editthe program. These OEM pack-ages are not a substitute for a CPUpassword, which is designed tominimize the risk of loss for propri-etary program information.
