T As people grow they develop different scars, some are physical scars, some are emotional. I grew up and learned things the way many kids do, by making my own

B mistakes and learning from those of others, but some of them left bigger scars than others. One of those experiences which made a big scar was suffering abuse. I

E experienced abuse in a few forms. I was physically and emotionally abused, or bullied, by my classmates. I was also sexually abused. I didn’t tell anyone about any of these things until I was much older. I think many times people who are abused think it’s

A their own fault, or are afraid of what people will say if they find out, and don’t trust people enough to confide in them about what is going on. After all, past experience has taught them that people can’t be trusted, but that is definitely not the truth.

E In addition to the abuse, or perhaps because of it, another scar was formed by coping with depression from a very young age. By learning to see myself for who I really am

A instead of through depression-tinted glasses, I’ve discovered that I am a pretty wonderful and unique person who has quite a bit to offer the world. One of the most

E difficult things I’ve ever had to do was to admit that I needed help facing the previously mentioned scars and, while facing a therapist helped, it left a scar of it’s own. I came to the realization that I needed help and people were willing to help me.

A I had no problem helping others who needed it and didn’t think them weak. Therefore, it was not a weakness in me to admit I needed help. As I grew up I

R gained many scars. All were painful, but they have helped me become a stronger individual.

My dad was a very careless and mischievous kid. He grew up in a time when pulling pranks on people wasn’t as big of a deal as it is now. One time he accidentally hung his dad’s colt from a swing tied to the barn rafters. Even though this was an accident, it shows Dad was careless because he forgot to remove the swing. Another time he dismantled a neighbor’s truck and reassembled it in a field with a fence running through the middle of it. Most of the time when people pull pranks like this they are focused on having fun and causing trouble for others, thus, mischievous. When he was in high school, he and his buddies took the bed from a teacher’s house and put it on top of the roof so that when the teacher returned from his honeymoon, he wouldn’t have a bed. This proves the mischievous nature of my dad because he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, just have fun. My father is an amazing person and is extremely kind and considerate of others, but that grew as he grew up.
