In 1905, Baptist Insurance was created to insure Baptist churches against fire, natural perils and liabilities. Since then, Baptist Insurance has grown to become the market leader in their chosen field, as well as offering home insurance for property owners and for commercial purposes.

As a Christian insurance organisation, Baptist Insurance believes that God is honoured when we provide truly excellent services to individuals, churches, and businesses. Baptist Insurance strives to steward its financial resources with the highest possible levels of professionalism and Christian integrity.

Baptist Insurance has always been committed to providing more than just insurance services. The Baptist Insurance Board is passionate about supporting people and organisations who really make a difference by enriching the lives of others through Christian mission, in word and deed. Therefore, all distributable profits are invested back into the Baptist community and evangelistic projects chosen by the Baptist Insurance Board.

Over the past ten years alone Baptist Insurance has given over £2.5 million and is now expecting to see a significant increase in the amount of grants distributed each year.

Looking ahead to its future needs and long-term vision for its business objectives and grant-giving aspirations, Baptist Insurance is now seeking to appoint three new non-executive members to its Board of Directors. The governance work of the Baptist Insurance Board can be simplified to these two core priorities:

1) Bringing financial acumen, insurance expertise, and strong governance to the oversight of our insurance provisions. The motivation behind this work is to ensure that Baptist places of worship remain active in their work of making disciples and bringing good news to their communities. We seek to ensure that Baptist Insurance remains a brand known for its integrity, also providing high quality customer care and excellent services to individuals.

2) Reviewing applications and selecting a vibrant, missional grants portfolio, with the aim of supporting what God is already doing in communities around the UK. Baptist Insurance strategically invests in the Baptist missionaries, churches and charities working on the frontlines, sharing the good news about Jesus.

Please read on to see if this might be a way of stewarding your gifts in order to serve individuals and churces with excellent insurance services and also to bring your wisdom to the funding partnership with the many and diverse evangelistic ministries of the Baptist church.

The Baptist Insurance Board has six scheduled board meetings a year, two of which may extend over two days with committee meetings. With reading and communications added to this and committee attendance, the Board estimate the time commitment approaches 10-14 days a year. Board members receive a modest remuneration for their service.

As two board members prepare to step down in the coming year, Baptist Insurance is currently looking to add to the Board of Directors. The objective is to strengthen the Board in its cross-disciplinary functional nature, its wise succession planning, its group diversity and personality, and furthering the collective connection with the heart of the Baptist movement and its frontline mission and evangelistic ministries.

In order to continue providing an excellent service to its clients and funding partnerships, Baptist Insurance is specifically looking for directors to occupy the following positions on our board:

l A Grants Advisor, bringing insight to the diverse expressions of Baptist Mission and Evangelism

l A General Insurance Expert

l A Financial Expert, able to work alongside the Deputy Chairman and take responsibility for aspects of financial and risk oversight for the organisation

Mission and Evangelism Representative These are exciting times for Baptist Insurance. By God’s grace, the business continues to be profitable. In fact, profits are increasing which in turn increases our grant-making capacity. A critical part of the board role at Baptist Insurance is to discern how best to distribute and allocate these profits to missionaries, churches and charitable organisations that are seeing lives transformed through the sharing of the gospel.

With a broad knowledge and range of contacts in the wider Baptist family/movement, this individual will eventually take over as Chair of Grants for Baptist Insurance. Having a keen evangelistic drive to see lives changed by the power of the gospel, this person will inform allocation of grants in a way that maximises impact for God’s kingdom.

Insurance ExpertAs a company providing professional financial services, it is critical that the Baptist Insurance Board has the technical insurance knowledge and experience needed to make wise decisions and navigate changes both internally and externally.

With a senior-level general insurance background, this director will provide the necessary oversight and sector-knowledge Baptist Insurance needs in order to ensure the highest standards of insurance products and services, as well as informing and shaping strategy for growth and sales. A good working knowledge of reinsurance will be important for this position.

Finance ExpertAn FCA or equivalent, this director will support the current Deputy Chairman in ensuring the highest standards of financial acumen, probity and compliance, as well as supporting risk-management. A background in insurance would be advantageous for this position but is not essential.
