Jul 2017
As a reminder, there will not be a chapter meeting in July. Our next schedule meeting will be 19 August. Some other important dates to remember are the GWRRA Wing Ding in Grapevine Texas on 29 August – 2 September. The Chapter E Progressive Dinner Ride for 9 September is still pending. We still need a family to offer the hospitality of their home for the main meal and another family for the dessert. Also, the Chapter E Picnic is scheduled for Thursday, 5 October at the Avery Pavilion, Lake Ouachita. Some of our chapter mem-bers will be attending the Arkansas District Rally which will be held in Eureka Springs on 14 – 15 July at The Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Conference Center. If you plan on attending, please join Angie and I by wearing your Chapter E shirt and participat-ing in the GWRRA Shirt Competition. Also, Angie and I are trying to put together a poster board with Chapter E photographs, banner, Chapter E Charter from GWRRA, etc. We hope to enter it in the “Pride Table Awards”. If you have something to contrib-ute, let us know. Dan and Angie Drennon

Jan & OJ moved to the Village this May and they did not take any time joining a motorcycle group to have fun. OJ has a Silver Spyder and Jan rides a Red Spyder. Jan use to ride a bike a while ago but children interrupted her riding. Jan has 2 children and OJ has 1 and they have 7 grandchil-dren between them. They moved here from Austin, TX and love the Curvy roads
Jan even pumps her own gas.
You GO Girl!!
Now, I know this looks “weird”, but in the restaurant where we ate, they have a bowl (it does look like a toilet bowl). You feed a coin into the spout and the coin goes round and round and round…… I countered up to 50 and then I could not keep up with the spinning coin.

Worst Case Scenarios – Managing Weather By Tom Harrison, Chapter AR-E Educator
This month’s topic is how to deal with weather conditions. Lightning kills more peo-ple in the US than tornados and hurricanes combined. Although automobile drivers are relatively safe in cars because of the insulating effect of tires, this DOES NOT hold true for motorcyclist because of the tremendous amount of voltage involved versus the amount of tire contact. There have been documented cases of motorcyclists be-ing struck by lightning, usually with fatal results. Here is what you should do. Find shelter at a gas station, restaurant or rest area. If those are not available, look for a low spot, park your motorcycle and walk 20 yards away. This increases the odds that you are less attractive than the motorcycle. Fog is as high danger situation. You can get in trouble riding to fast or to slow when visibility is near zero. When visibility drops below quarter of a mile (about 6 telephone poles) , pull completely off of the highway at an exit or if not an exit, as far off as you can and then leave it and get further away to prevent being involved in a pile up. Heavy rain can have the same affect and when you see it coming, pull off and wait for the storm to play out. Tornados typically move at less than 50 mph. If one appears ahead of you, turn around and run from it. Do not try to skirt the edges or predict which direction it is traveling. Also be aware of hail potential. I was returning from a five state poker run in the panhandle of Oklahoma and increment weather was coming. When we arrived at the house I was staying at in Oklahoma City, my host kept insisting that I put my Goldwing in his garage. About 15 minutes later, his house was pelted by baseball size hail which caused enormous damage. Concurrent with the hail, a powerful tornado flattened a Love’s truck stop about 2 miles away. Now imagine being on your motor-cycle at 70 mph when this size hail started falling. When heavy weather is headed your way, play it safe and find shelter somewhere until it blows over. Use the weather channel on your Goldwing to its full advantage.
There are also weather apps for smart phones that provide cur-
rent Doppler radar information with hour by hour predictions of
storm movement.
