THE ELEPHANT’S JOURNEY

MI CASA

Bzzzzzzz...!

A journey through life and the things that make us wonder. Five elephants roam their world in an unbelievably big effort.

Home is more than a house with four warm walls, a cozy chair, a fire and good things to eat; it’s a place within where you feel safe, comforted and you share with the special people you love. Home is the place where you create memories and build new dreams. Home runs much deeper than the surface.

Through images of warm textures where words are unnecessary, Bzzzzzzz...! freely explores visual narration. It´s more than the flight of Florinda Margarita´s flies (from I like Cows) to reach her tail. It’s a book full of self-references and rich details.

IBBY’s honour List 2008. A metaphor for liberation that comes from the flight of fantasy, represented through the visual play of different points of view, combi-nations and vivid representations of an imagination that becomes the reality so longed for by a child’s reasoning.

LA PRINCESA CALVA

EL PUENTE ESTA QUEBRADO

YO TE CUIDO

The impossible love between a couple of mice devoted to chants in a temple of the Chinese Wall, and the solidarity of a little elephant who is in love with a mate captive in a zoo, are the basis of this funny and tender tale.

“The princes turned bald. She would scream, forsaken her bad luck in live. She used to think that like the dwarf, her black knight had also forgotten her, or even worse, he had fallen in love with another captive princess and by now he was probably with her, both of them laughing in any beach in Singapore, happily traveling from country to country.”

The bridge is falling down, how shall we build it up again?” asked the little animals of the jungle when the flooding cornered them on top of a hill. Celso Román tells us how solidarity, teamwork and especially love of life, led them to find a solution to save all of them, from the jaguar to the ants.

Children literature creates a magic space that begins when all of us are the heroes of the ad-venture presented by the author and creates an affectionate complicity between words, image and reader. In this book, the anguish of two characters sheltered by their love and solidarity in a day-to-day situation that allows them to uncover their own feelings is reflected.

Because of his love for “Missus”Rosalie, Si-mon decides to fail the school year. Despite having been an outstanding student, he de-cides to misbehave in every way possible. His plan works to perfection until one day Simon has a weird encounter at the beauty parlor, which he prefers to think of as the ‘ugly par-lor’. From then on, he makes the firm decision of being promoted, no matter what happens.

If you ever want to send a greeting to the little shrimp, you can write it with your finger on the sand. Do it where the waves can reach it. When it fades away, wherever he is, the message will have reached him.

If you would see a penguin running quick from his far homelands in the South Pole to the Pampa, it is not that he is training for a marathon competition. Nor is he running away from his charming wife Pina. It is that he is going to discharge a mission that is very important for his region and fellow animals.

“Martín never is rewarded at school. For that reason, when they give him a medal he is so frightened that he hides it so that his mother will not punish him. But while he is not at home, his mother finds it and thinks that he took it without permission.”

JACK Y EL GIGANTE CAPUCHINO

CAPERUCITA ROJA Y EL LOBO GLOTÓN

HANSEL Y GRETEL Y LA CASITA ENDULZADA

At an important auction in Hong Kong, two special pieces are put on the block. One is a thousand-year-old recipe and the other is a tiny pair of slippers of unknown origin, whose extraordinary beauty and design have placed a very high price on them. The slippers are so expensive that nobody can buy them together, so they must be sold separately. Not aware that this will change his daugh-ter’s life, the loving father of Shenicenta (Cinderella) is ready to buy one or the other. How can a slipper save the girl from her evil stepmother? What about the other slipper? What enigma is contained by the fortune cookie? While it reveals the answers to these questions, this book will teach you to prepare the most soughtafter recipe in the world and many others, and it will provide valuable information about health and nutrition and offer you surprising activities to enjoy.

CENICIENTA Y LA GALLETA DE LA FORTUNA

The poverty suffered by Jack and his mother was only alleviated by their old, loyal cow Moo, with whose milk the woman made ice cream sandwiches that her son would then peddle in town. One day Jack decided to trade the cow for some very “special” kernels of corn, but his mother was furious when he brought them home and refused to accept them. Nevertheless, a miracle happened, and Jack ended up in the world of the giant Cappuccino and his wife, an enormous Cyclops named Gigi, and began to face terrifying dangers on every side. Thanks to his cleverness and lots of good luck, Jack was able to escape the giant’s house safe and sound. But a few days later the enraged giant came after him... Find out what happened to these characters while you learn how to prepare Cappucereal or such delicious dishes as giant’s pasta and Gigi-Apple Cake.

ALICIA EN EL PAÍS DE LAS DELICIAS

For thousands of years, the sacred waters of Guatavita Lake have hidden a treasure. Blinded by greed, many have searched their depths in vain. Only Taicuache, a Muisca Indian boy, inspired by his own dreams and driven by his firm convictions, was able to travel the spiral of time and bring back from the waters the true secret of El Dorado. This new creation by Villegas Editores is a box of surprises. In addition to the treasure chest with its mask that reveals all truths, the pen to write on the secret tablet, the enigmatic book, the card game with messages, and the page marker, the book brings legends from our rich Indian heritage. This is a tempting invitation to go along with Taicuache on his adventure through time and to discover the truth behind the mysteries he encounters.

ECO S.O.S. is an interactive text with an almanac format, designed so that children in the primary school age group can play while they learn. The book presents 11 ecological problems affecting the earth (consumerism, contamination, rainforests, global warming, hunger, poverty, desertification, extinction of living species, war, garbage land-fills, and education) in order to create ecological and environmental awareness in young people and help them in adopting lifestyles that are in harmony with their world. Each problem, developed and explained through an illustrated story and an attached note pad, proposes a series of 15 simple reflections, actions, and activities a young person and pursue in daily life. www.ecosos.org

These delightful books to color are another component, as entertaining as they are didactic, of the great campaign of ecological awareness that Villegas Editores has undertaken among the children of this country. The program is reflected in the publication of the almanac-book ECO S.O.S., previously described. The idea behind these texts is to reach children -while they color pertinent illustrations- with the message that they can identify the problems that are seriously affecting our world and are the result of human irresponsibility, and that they must understand the different ways that each of us, depending upon our age and situation, can contribute to finding solutions. Clear and understandable data combined with real-life situations make comprehension of the topics immediate as well as compelling, stimulating the desire of readers to join efforts to defend our global environment.

GIRL TO GIRL

EL LIBRO DE LOS DÍAS Cosas de niñas

Adolescents today, also known as the Internet generation, navigate through life in search of answers to all the questions and confusions regarding the changes that are typical of their age. With a direct and intimate tone based on testimonials, questions, concerns, and emotions that are very real to young males, this book tries to correctly orient adolescent boys and give them some straight answers. Muscles, girls, sports, video, acne, curiosities, humor, internet, music, jokes, money, taking risks, and protection are only some of the topics covered. Laden with information, practical ideas, modern illustrations, and helpful tips - each theme has been assessed by professionals in the pertinent field. This new book will provide the companion volume to fulfill all the expectations created with the publication of Cosas de Niñas (Girl to Girl).

PÚBERMAN

Vademecum for Young Women is the long-awaited guidebook, the needed help, the useful answer to every doubt and problem that can arise when a young woman has to begin to live on her own and things are no longer just for kids... In sections devoted to study, work, health, finances, home, relationships, and social life, Vademecum for Young Women explores the best ways to achieve the independence that is so desired without having to quaff the bitter drink of having life seem to “put you in a box.” In the transition to adult life, this guide could help its readers resolve many conflicts, suggesting creative solutions and inculcating self-confidence in different situations. Based upon the principals of a healthy and entertaining life, Vademecum for Young Women should be an invaluable companion for this key period of development.

Beautifully illustrated, this book aspires to fill an existing vacuum in literature for pre-adolescent girls. Full of advice, activities, recipes, quizzes, ideas, information about key topics, and many other things in the life of a girl, it is a useful guide to helping a girl resolve the problems that crop up in each area. It is a personal and private book that invites girls to examine their own intimate concerns, write up their thoughts, and pursue activities that will help them process emotional conflicts that are typical of their age group. It is a work that covers all social classes, cultures, and ethnic groups. The situations presented are very real and the information given has been supervised by professionals in each specific area.

This novel daily plan book for girls complements the successful book Girl to Girl. It has 365 new tips and can be used at any time of the year; if you begin in August, for example, you can open the ring binder and rearrange the pages to correspond to an August-July year. In addition, it includes a directory for phone numbers, a class schedule for school, a calendar for females, spaces for photos and drawings, simple recipes, instructions for manual skills, pages for stickers, and everything in a ring binder to allow rearranging. Each page has interesting bits of information to learn or look into; new vocabulary words to enhance your vocabulary; recommendations for good books and movies, and much, much more. This is an innovative and surprising plan book that can become a close companion and confidante for every girl.

People aren’t born with good manners. Manners are based on attitudes and behaviors that are developed and learned. Thinking about this, María Villegas and Jennie Kent continue their excellent series that began with Girl to Girl, presenting this new book, ¡Cómo no meter la pata!. The text contains secrets and tricks that every girl needs to know in order to give a good impression, behave like a princess, and shine on every special occasion. Loaded with helpful tips, advice, exercises, recipes, and activities, the book touches on key topics—love, family, friendship, fashion—in an entertaining way, bringing everything down to the level of girls that can use help in resolving many of their doubts and problems... without messing up.

¡CÓMO NO METER LA PATA!

Another member of the successful series Girl to Girl, this text does more than just teach the steps to rock & roll, salsa, tango, rumba, Flamenco, Arabian dancing, can-can, and waltz. It empowers the reader regarding the rarely-mentioned benefits of dancing: social skills, improved self-esteem, physical exercise, relief of stress, and acceptance of one’s body. The book includes the origins, costumes, and customs associated with each form of dance, and it is enhanced by suggestions for giving a dance party -recipes, activities, decorations- plus many surprises that can be shared on its web page, www.cosas de ninas.com. This text is in tune with the digital age, and it can turn its readers into dancing kings and queens!

Visualizing the world through simple forms and figures is the first step to understand and enter the infinite and magical universe of geometry. With this idea in mind, Go Figure was born, a unique and beautiful series of interactive books, designed for children from the age of four years and up. By means of fascinating illustrations, constructed with geometric shapes, little ones will have their first contact with mathematics. Go Figure is published in three initial volumes with rich colors and presented with durable covers: Animals, Phantasy, and World. As the titles indicate, the approaches revolve around the attractions of selected fauna, the world of phantasy, and the most representative marvels of different countries of the world. Each text contains 40 electrostatic stickers that children can use to create the figures that appear on each page. In this way, through games and interaction, children assimilate very rapidly the basic geometric figures, learning their decomposition and inter-relationships.

This unique and interactive book on yoga for children includes a CD with music to accompany the exercises and a game to stimulate the practice and knowledge of relaxation sequences. Its attractive illustrations, its colorful presentation, the possibilities for play, and the interesting method for introducing children to the topic give this book a special appeal. The topic, supervised by experts in the field, is presented by a cat that personifies a reporter and is intrigued by the many cases of a disease called stress, leading the cat to investigate the secret of the only beings that seem to be exempt from the illness: cows. This simple manual leads children to enjoy the magic world of yoga while they exercise their bodies and improve their powers of concentration, memory, and creativity.

This second in the Colorombia series is in honor of Colombia’s fauna that is under threat of extinction. The great climatic and geographic diversity of the country makes it a perfect habitat for us to share with birds, bears, deer, crocodiles, fish, etc. The artists invited to illustrate the book selected the animals of their choice. Their job was to represent three different species, make a drawing for each one, illustrate the animals selected in some specific context, and finally create a fantastic creature that would be a mixture of the three animals chosen. There were neither suffcient pages nor artists to cover all the species that inhabit our country. It is therefore quite possible that this will be the first volume of a series dedicated to animal life.

Text and image dance through the pages of this book-object. It might be children’s literature, or literature for that child that is inside us, only the reader will tell. It is a neat book not only in text, but also in illustration and design; a joy for the senses.

With a festive tone Vaivén narrates different occupations at the circus and through each of them enunciates the name of family ancestors and descendants. The illustration moves at the rhythm of the word.

With the tone of a five years old child, his imagina-tion, and his fears, Ricardo Silva Romero and the illustrator Daniel Gómez tell the experience of Gre-gorio on his first day of school. Que no me miren gathers sensations through the paragraphs and transports us through the ABC, from A to Z. It is a children’s book that will be read and felt by adults. It’s not easy to forget the first day of school, is it?.
