2019 LEWIS OWENS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDPresented annually by the Lexington Herald-Leader to a Kentucky newspaper person performing the most outstanding community service. The award was originally established in memory of Edwards M. Templin, promotion director of the Lexington Herald-Leader and president-elect of the Kentucky Press Association when he died in 1967. It was renamed the Lewis Owens Community Service Award in 1996 to honor the publisher emeritus of the Lexington Herald-Leader for his many years of service to community and service organizations and to Kentucky newspaper’s industry.
