What is TV Drama?

We will go through the varying sub-genres of TV Drama according to Glen Creeber (2001).

This is a theory YOU MUST apply to the introduction of your Section A Exam answer VERY briefly.

Single Play TV Drama =

A one off TV Drama (docu-drama for example)

Long Form TV Drama =

A continual multi-episode/series where the narrative concludes at the end of a series and/or leaves the audience on a cliff hanger.This is the most common for of TV Drama.

These are the different types of TV Drama that you SHOULD make a brief reference to in your Introduction.

For example –

“The essay will focus on the costume drama (Creeber – 2001) ‘Name of TV Drama HERE’ and how the technical features help construct the representation of…”

“…construct the representation of…”

YOU WILL be asked to analyse ONE of the SEVEN areas of Representation above.This changes EVERY year so YOU WILL need to be prepared to answer a question on ALL SEVEN areas.

These are details about the TV Drama YOU WILL be analysing, however the only important thing worth referring to in the exam is the name of the text and identify what sub-genre it is according to Glen Creeber (2001)

This is where the exam changes every year – “the representation of…” – from this list.

The structure of the exam question stays the same with the areas in yellow the only alterations.

In your Exercise Books, YOU MUST “Mind Map” OR List the common stereotypes associated to people who are represented as Disabled in a TV Drama in YOUR OPINION!

Extension – YOU COULD come up with a list of anti-stereotypes as well.
