Why are Rain Forests Endangered?

• Rain forests are endangered, because of deforestation, and forest destruction. Deforestation is when trees are cleared from a forest. People are doing this, for the trees lumber, grazing space for cattle, road construction, etc.

Plants• The rain forests of the world have

about 80% of the worlds green flowering plants in existence. Scientists estimate that only 2.5 acres of rain forests have over 750 different species of plants. Because of deforestation, these plants will either die, or have their habitat destroyed.

Animals• Many rainforest animals are

endangered, such as Gorillas, Jaguars, Poison Dart Frogs, Bengal Tigers, Chimpanzees, Orangoutangs, and Harpy Eagles. An estimated half of the world’s animal species live in the world’s rainforests. All of the animal species are threatened because of the rainforest destruction.

This is deforestation in Madagascar. All the trees have been cleared

About 17% of the Amazon Rainforest has been cleared in the last 50 years, due to cattle ranching.
