Raised in the church, but not a true ChristianAt Bucknell University majored in Music and BiologyBecame a convinced Old Universe EvolutionistIn 1966 Graduated from U. of Pittsburgh College of
Dentistry as an Agnostic, Zen Buddhist, EvolutionistServed my country as a USAF dentist for the pilots
and crews of AF#1 and the presidential fleet (89th MAW) during Viet Nam war (President Johnson)
Received the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior at age 27 (1967).
THIS SPEAKER’S HISTORY:
• Upon becoming a Christian I immediately became a Theistic Evolutionist (God + “Big Bang” millions of years)
• Established a private dental practice at NASA in Clear Lake City, Texas
• 1971 became a professor of dentistry at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas
• My first lecture “The Evolution of the Tooth” (How fish scales moved into the mouth and became teeth)
• Two students challenged me after that first lecture to investigate Young Earth Creation (1971)
• After several years of studying the Bible, the assumptions behind evolution and the irreducible complexity of animals, I emerged a Young Earth Creationist. (Earth 6000 yrs. old, Global Flood 4400 yrs ago)
• In 1982 I resigned my full professorship (with tenure) and enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary
• Since completing the degree in Systematic Theology in 1986, Jenna Dee, Taryn, Mirren and I have been travelling around the USA and across the oceans teaching and preaching about various aspects of worldviews and the veracity of true Christianity—a relationship with the God of the Bible through the death and resurrection of His only Son, Jesus Christ.
DISCERNING DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH1 Peter 3:14-15
14But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
OR
DEFECTOR’S FROM THE FAITH?
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right
unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death
Where is Our Heart?
Do we desire Truth in our innermost being for ourselves and our children?
Psalm 51:6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part
thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
James 1:5-6 5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God,
that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed
Have we been so long with the Father and yet we do not know or understand
His heart?
John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so
long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?
Have we been led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to
Christ?
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the
serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from
the simplicity that is in Christ
Have we been compromised, neutralized and diluted by Satan’s
culture; by our flesh?
Psalm 101:2-3 2I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when
wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. 3I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them
that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
We do not become compromised or diluted over night….It is a conscious process!
1 Corinthians 10:13-14 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to
escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
1 John 5:20-21 20 And we know that the Son of God is
come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is
true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
Amen.
Colossians 3:5-6 5Mortify therefore your members which
are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6For which things’ sake the
wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.
Psalm 39:4-54LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. 5Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee:
verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
Psalm 90:12So teach us to number our
days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Ephesians 5:16-1716Redeeming the time, because the
days are evil. 17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding
what the will of the Lord is.
Colossians 4:5-65Walk in wisdom toward them that
are without, redeeming the time. 6Let your speech be alway with
grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to
answer every man.
We choose moment by moment to be conformed to this world or to be
transformed into the image of our Lord Jesus by the renewing of our
minds as we meditate on His Word!
Romans 12:1-2
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Are we choosing to be conformed or transformed?
What are we choosing?
• Therapy over Theology?• The Artificial over the AUTHENTIC?• Entertainment over Entreatment (of the Bible)?• The World over the Word?• Passion over Purity?• Feeling good over Being Good?• Professing Faith over truly Possessing The Faith?
Are we choosing the world, the flesh and the devil?
1And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience: 3Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our
flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath,
even as others. Ephesians 2:1-3
Why would we choose the world, the flesh and the devil?
We, even as Christians [young and old], choose the world the flesh and the devil
because of the:
• Lust of the flesh• Lust of the eyes• Pride of life.
1 John 2:15-17
15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the
love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the
Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Let’s take a look at ourselves and our families. Are we slipping into worldliness?
Are we allowing our vitality, enthusiasm and God-given focus and gifts to be compromised and
diluted? Are we practicing Godliness in our homes and
families? Are we bringing eternal glory to our dear Lord Jesus as we accomplish His works starting in our
homes?
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship [poem], created in Christ Jesus unto good
works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in
them.
To be defenders of The Faith we must practice Colossians 1:10-11:
10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work,
and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11Strengthened with all might, according to his
glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness….
One of our motivating factors to live out Scriptures such as Colossians 1:10 should stem
from the appreciation and gratitude of understanding
1 Corinthians 6:20: “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God’s.”
How can we glorify God in our body and spirit?
Galatians 5:22-25 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Proverbs 4:23-27
23Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25Let
thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26Ponder the path of
thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:
remove thy foot from evil.
We must guard our feet from slipping off the straight and narrow path of God’s Word.
16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17A proud look, a
lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth
discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19
Romans 3:15-18
15Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17And the way of peace have they not known: 18There is no fear of God before their eyes
• To be defenders of The Faith we must guard our hearts and teach our children to guard their hearts.
• Placing Scriptural “guards” on our hearts is the best way to guard the path of our feet.
• Two of the main motivators for guarding our hearts and the path of our feet is a deep-seated love and healthy fear of the Lord.
The Fear of the Lord
There are two aspects to the fear of the Lord:–Awesome Reverence–Bone Shaking Terror
The Fear of the LordAwesome ReverenceBone-shaking Terror
• The Greek term “phobos” “phobeo” includes both• The Hebrew term “Yire” “Yirah” includes both• “Fear” is like a volcano: You are drawn to it in awe,
but you are repelled from it in fear it could blow up and kill you.
Proverbs 1:7
The fear [yireh] of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and
instruction.
Luke 12:4-5 Jesus said, 4And I say unto you my friends, Be not
afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole
matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
John 14:21 He that hath my
commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Are we teaching our children how to defend the Faith in the
love and fear of God?
JUDE 3Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto
you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that
ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
1 PETER 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in
you with meekness and fear.
COLOSSIANS 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and
not after Christ.
HOSEA 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will
also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy
God, I will also forget thy children.
PROVERBS 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Ezra 7:10
10For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel its
statutes and judgments.
• We are losing to other worldviews of Satan’s world system up to 89% of our children of evangelical Christian families.
• By age 20 to 29 we only have 11% of our kids who were raised in the church still involved in Christian pursuits! Many have come home from college or now high school and even middle school professing atheism.

The Making of a Disaster
So what is the goal of most of today’s younger generation in USA including Christians? They
want to become rich and famous!
Of all the 20 to 29-year-old evangelicals who attended church regularly but no
longer do so:• 95% of them attended church regularly during their
elementary and middle school years• 55% attended church regularly during high school • 11% were still attending church during collage.
Already Gone, p.31
We are losing 40% before high We are losing 40% before high school.school.
We are losing another 44% We are losing another 44% before college.before college.
In other words, there is a In other words, there is a “disconnect” between “knowing “disconnect” between “knowing
Truth” and “practicing Truth.”Truth” and “practicing Truth.”John 3:21:
“But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that
they are wrought in God.”
Dads and Moms are we teaching our children Biblical discernment and
how to defend the Faith?
• Young people and children: Are you ready to defend the true Faith of Christianity no matter what the consequence, the cost, or the circumstance?
Are we all fearing God with awesome reverence combined
with bone-shaking terror?
• Are we remembering that there are severe consequences for sin—that there is a price to be paid for walking with our Lord in Satan’s world system.
• Our Lord Jesus paid the price for our sin with His very life. Romans 5:7-10:
8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Because of what Lord Jesus did for us we exist for His glory. Whether we live or die we exist
for the glory of God.Isaiah 42:8-9:
8I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. 9Behold, the former things are
come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Isaiah 53:3-6He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows,
and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed
him not. 4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for
our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned
every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Romans 10:9 9That if thou shalt confess with thy
mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.
To be a defender of The Faith a person must exchange religious piety for a
personal relationship with our crucified and resurrected Lord, Creator and Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ!
Romans 10:13“For whosoever shall call upon the
name of the Lord shall be saved.”
