Readings for the Following Week – The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist – June 24, 2018
Isaiah 49:1-6 • Act of the Apostles 13:22-26 • Luke 1:57-66,80
Greetings Friends:
Wow. So here we are: the final weekend before
The Big Associate Pastor Changeover. The
weekend of final goodbyes.
Here’s the funny thing:
I’ve never really believed
in goodbyes. When in grade school, a family member once told me that
friendships are meant to end, and that lifelong friendship isn’t a
realistic thing. I didn’t buy it. To be sure, there are plenty of old
colleagues and friends that are no longer part of my life. However,
I still keep ties with some of my very oldest friends from those
early years of life. I also have a standing policy with my friends
that I will visit if I’m one state or country away: I once crossed the
border from the Dominican Republic to Haiti (all on my own, not
smart) to pay a visit to someone I knew in Peace Corps. Those two
days were a harrowing adventure of culture shock: it is not easy to
get out of Haiti, not even for an American.
There are other examples of goodbye refusal, of course. This is a
lifelong pattern, after all. But after dwelling upon this aspect of my
personality, a spiritual lesson came to the forefront of my thoughts
and prayers. In some book or article I read many years ago, a
theologian was explaining the wholeness of the human
person. You see, it is the teaching of the Catholic Church that all
people are self-contained wholes, and we should beware of fixating
on one singular part of being human. For instance, we are all
biological beings. It is good to understand and respect the
biological aspect of humanity: that includes brain science and body
chemistry and basic nutrition. However, we are not merely
biological: we are spiritual beings as well. What we think and feel
are not the mere products of fired neurons or hormonal chemical
reactions - those are parts of a greater whole. To fail to recognize
that is to fail to see humanity for the unique creation that it is.
Getting back to the topic of goodbyes, this same writer specifically
made mention of the fact that we are eternal beings paradoxically
bound by time. That means that we grow old and change, because
the clock is always ticking for us. Is not the difference between
past, present, and future perfectly clear? Such is the reality of
time. However, just as we are not entirely defined by biology, we
are not entirely bound by time. We have, in fact, an eternal nature
as well. We sense that element of eternity most especially when we
say goodbye to loved ones - whether due to death or major life
changes. We feel a tug, somewhere within us, that reminds us that
final goodbyes are as temporary and limited as sin itself. We know
deep down that we’re not meant to be apart for long.
So know that if we do not meet again in the near future, we will
meet again in the Kingdom of Heaven. The unity of faith and good
will is what draws us together no matter the circumstances. And
the grace of The Holy Spirit encourages nothing less of us all.
So thank you for the last two years. There was much joy, learning,
and growth throughout everything. I sincerely hope our paths cross
sooner rather than later... but if they don’t, we will see each other
again. For as we hear in Eucharistic Prayer III, “give kind
admittance to your kingdom where we will enjoy forever the
fullness of your glory, when you will wipe away every tear from
our eyes. For seeing you, our God, as you are, we shall be like you
for all ages and praise you without end, through Christ our Lord,
through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.“
Farewell for now, everyone. Wherever we go and whatever we do,
may God bless us all: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We are excited to announce that we will be participating in the West Bend 4th of July Parade representing the Faith and Family Fest.

route will proceed north on Main Street through downtown, west on Cedar street, north on 7th Ave. crossing Hwy 33 to North Main
Street and ending in Regner Park. The route is about one mile long.
TIME & LOCATION: Participants are encouraged to arrive at the parade staging area in front of Badger Middle School by 8:30am. We encourage you to
wear this year’s Faith and Family Fest T-shirt! We will have a Faith and Family Fest sign high on a pole for you to be able to find our
group. If you have trouble finding us, please call Jan’s cell at 414-975-5111.

Universal – Social Networks
That social networks may work towards
that inclusiveness which respects others
for their differences.
In the Gospel, Jesus says: “This is how it is with the reign of God. A man
scatters seed on the ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after day.
Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without his knowing how it
happens.” Through your cash donations you are sowing seeds that grow far
greater than you know. Your gift given to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society
brings Christ’s love and compassion to the poor.
Adults: Who has scattered the seeds of God’s Kingdom that have helped your
faith grow?
Children: Name one small thing that you can do each day this week with
great love for the sake of God’s Kingdom.
Action response: Buy a packet of seeds and place them all in a small bowl.
Study them closely and consider the impossible notion that a flower or tree
or fruit lies within that seed. Keep the seeds in a prominent place to remind
you there are many other mysteries unfolding around you every day.
Please note the Adoration Chapel closing schedule
for the 4th of July holiday: Close on Tuesday, July 3
at 5pm and re-open Thursday, July 5 at 8am.
Can you spend an hour of your week with Jesus in the
Blessed Sacrament? We are still in need of help for the
following hours:
Tuesday 2am-3am (alternate weeks) and 7am-8am
Wednesday 6am-7am and 7am-8am
Thursday 6am-7am; 7am-8am; and 12noon-1pm
Please help us keep the chapel open around the clock.

Stewardship – Our Grateful Response to God’s Love
PLANNED GIVING: MAKING A LASTING GIFT
Endowment Funds are a way for the Parish to maintain long-term funding for ministries within the Parish. Our goal is to invest the
money made available through the funds, making the net income from that investment available for spending, but maintaining the
principle. This allows your donation to have a much greater impact over a longer period of time than if it were spent immediately. Saint
Frances Cabrini Parish and School have established two endowment funds with the purpose of supporting enduring parishioner legacies
for the benefit of Saint Frances Cabrini Parish and School. Saint Frances Cabrini Education Endowment Fund Monies may be used for
any parish education and Catholic formation programming, including supporting the school, non-school child and youth formation
programs, and adult education. Saint Frances Cabrini Parish Endowment Fund Monies may be used for any needed parish ministries for
facilities maintenance or improvements.
