Baby frogs live in water, and grown-up frogs live on land and in water.

2 3 4 SupernovaAt the end of its life,
a massive star explodes as a supernova. The explosion’s extreme temperature and pressure allows gold, uranium, and other elements heavier than iron to form.
Burned outA star fuses hydrogen
atoms together to make helium. When it runs out of hydrogen, it starts fusing helium to form carbon. This process continues, making heavier elements up to iron.
Birth of a starHydrogen atoms form
vast clouds, called nebulae. These get closer together and hotter until new elements form. The huge energy released makes the stars shine brightly.

Big BangThis explosion was probably the
beginning of everything—time, space, and all the matter in the Universe. Within half an hour, protons and neutrons began to combine to make the first atomic nuclei, producing atoms of hydrogen and helium.
of everythingin the Universe is just two elements—hydrogenand helium
New worldsEvery time a star
is formed and later dies, a cloud of stardust containing the elements is created, and new stars and planets form out of the debris of the supernova. Rare and heavy elements are carried to planets around the Universe, such as Earth, by meteorites.
From the stars Many scientists think that the Universe began about 13.7 billion years ago in an event called the Big Bang. This produced hydrogen, helium, and lithium. All the other elements formed much later, inside stars.
Making elements [Where didThe story of the elements goes back to the beginning of time itself. The first three elements—the light gases hydrogen and helium, and the metal lithium—were created soon after our Universe sprang into existence.

Surfi ngRockhoppers wait for a big wave and then “surf” onto the rocks, landing with a bump.
ClimbingThese penguins are excellent at hopping up steep cliffs, which is how they got their name.
JumpingRockhoppers jump off cliffs feetfi rst into the sea rather than headfi rst like other penguins do.
Rockhoppers breed on islands where people also live, such as the Falkland Islands.
