The Kingston International Study Centre (KULISC) provides a range of degree preparation programmes for international students. These include academic modules, English language training and study skills, so you are ready to join your chosen degree programme on completion.
Progression to your degreeOnce you complete a degree preparation programme and achieve the required grades, you can enter your chosen degree programme at the University.
Access to University facilitiesAs a student at the International Study Centre, based on the Kingston Hill campus, you will be part of the University from the day you start your course. As well as benefiting from resources at the International Study Centre, you will have access to all facilities at the University.
For those with business ideas, Kingston also offers support through entrepreneur societies and career guidance from the University’s Careers and Employability department.
University-style teachingThe International Study Centre programmes will introduce you to the style of teaching that you will experience when you progress onto your degree. This includes: tutorials, seminar-style classes and large group lectures.
Personal monitoring and supportYour progress will be monitored at all times to make sure you remain on track to successfully complete the programme. You will also benefit from regular assessment through examination and marked coursework.

International Foundation YearThe International Foundation Year is designed specifically to prepare international students for degree-level study at Kingston University, London.
International Foundation Year routes Each course combines study skills, English language training and subject-specific modules to prepare you for study at degree level. You can choose from three routes depending on your chosen degree programme:• Business, Management and Law;• Science, Engineering and Computing;• Social Sciences.
Assessment You will be assessed regularly throughout the course to ensure you achieve the standard required for progression to your chosen degree.
There are assessments at the end of each module, which are a combination of examinations, coursework, presentations and extended essays. Continuous assessment is also a feature of the course with lectures, small group seminar work and self directed study.

Progress to your degree Once you complete the programme and achieve the required progression grades, you will be able to join the second year of your BSc degree in Business Management with business experience.
This fully integrated, vocationally focused degree programme includes business experience, a path towards professional membership, and the opportunity to study abroad – all in three years, instead of the four years of a more traditional degree.
This degree offers an exceptional combination that is great value for money and gives you the knowledge, skills and practical experience to enhance your career prospects.
During your third year, you will be given the opportunity to specialise in:• Human Resource Management;• Entrepreneurship;• Finance; or• Service Operations.
In addition, you can gain the PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation and Practitioner qualifications as part of your course. You will also get membership to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) whilst on this programme. A professional qualification will not only boost your skills and confidence but will greatly improve your employment prospects and your future career. Finally, a 22-day programme of pre-business experience sessions will prepare you for your work placement.
Is the International Year One for me? This is a fast-track programme designed for students who are overqualified for the International Foundation Year, but would benefit from an introduction to studying in the UK. This includes the academic knowledge, study skills and English language ability required to succeed in your degree.
By studying the International Year One, you will save time and money by studying at the International Study Centre and University under one visa for the entirety of your degree.

The best way to prepare The Pre-Masters Programme is designed for international students from a variety of backgrounds. If you do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry to a Masters degree, or want to refresh your language skills and knowledge, our specialist Pre-Masters Programme is for you.
On the Pre-Masters Programme you will:• use a range of academic and learning skills; • adapt to your new cultural and academic
environment; • enhance your understanding of your subject; • develop your ability to use English in an
academic environment.
Personal monitoring and support Your progress will be monitored at all times to make sure you remain on track to successfully complete the Pre-Masters Programme. You will also benefit from regular assessment through examination and coursework assignments.
Assessments include: • coursework;• final examinations at the end of each module;• presentations;• extended essays.
Progress onto your masters Once you successfully complete the Pre-Masters Programme and achieve the required grades, you can enter your chosen postgraduate degree at the University.
Gain industry experience Most Masters at Kingston offer an optional assessed 12-month work placement. You will find your own placement with help from the University careers team.
As an international student, you will be issued a two year visa for this period. This meets the Home Office’s requirements (including the 5-year time limit on Tier 4 study - see the UKCISA website).
On the Pre-Masters Programme, you will save time and money by requiring only one visa for your time at both the International Study Centre and University. You will also benefit from not having to return home between courses.

English Language PreparationIf you need to improve your English language to reach the required level for your International Study Centre programme, you can take our English Language Preparation (ELP) programme at the International Study Centre.
English Language Preparation for International Year One You will need an IELTS 5.5 in all components or equivalent to start the International Year One. If you have IELTS 5.0, we offer 8 weeks of complimentary English Language Preparation free to any student joining the programme. We also offer a 4 week complimentary course for students with IELTS 5.5, but lower component scores. For students with an IELTS of 4.5 (minimum of 4.0 in all components), you will need to take a full term of English Language Preparation.
English Language Preparation for International Foundation Year You will need an IELTS 4.5 (minimum 5.0 in writing and no other element less than 4.0) or equivalent to start the International Foundation Year. If you have IELTS 4.0 (minimum 4.0 in all bands) or equivalent, you will need one term of ELP. You can start in June, prior to starting your academic programme in September, or you can start in September, prior to starting in January.
English Language Preparation for Pre-Masters Programme You will need an IELTS 5.5 (in all components) or equivalent to start the Pre-Masters Programme. Students’ UnionThe Union of Kingston Students is a student-run organisation that offers sports and entertainment activities throughout your course. KUSU is also available for support and advice if you have any problems.
International Arrivals and OrientationInternational Orientation has been created to introduce you to studying at Kingston University whilst giving you an opportunity to make friends with other international students. We also offer a series of seminar sessions such as: Tier 4 visas - monitoring and support; working during and after your studies and postgraduate work placements.
Cultural, religious and interest societiesKUSU runs over 80 societies relating to various interests, including politics, culture, religion, computer games, the environment, entrepreneurship and debating.
Sports clubsWith 30 sports clubs on campus, you have a great opportunity to try something new. Clubs include badminton, football, rugby, cricket, snow sports, fencing and karting.
The Students’ Union offers hundreds of events, clubs and societies for you to enjoy when you’re not studying. These activities are not only a great way to make friends but will also build your CV and impress future employers.

Sports facilities Tolworth Court sports ground covers more than 20 acres and includes 12 football pitches, two rugby pitches, three cricket squares, an American football pitch, a lacrosse pitch, a mini-soccer pitch and netball and tennis courts. We also have an on-campus gym at Penrhyn Road with the latest fitness equipment, as well as an aerobics and dance studio.

Academic supportWe have a range of services to help you adjust to university study. When you join the University you will have access to a personal tutor who will offer academic guidance and advice throughout your studies.
Student Life CentreBased at the Penrhyn Road campus, the Student Life Centre brings together a number of key student support services – accommodation, advice, disability support and student funds – so you can easily find help when you need it.
Excellent facilities More than 3,000 networked computers are available across the University with free Wi-Fi and access to library resources.
The University recently invested £12 million in refurbishing our studios. We provide industry-standard equipment in our 3D workshop, digital media workshops, photography suite and filming studio so you will gain skills you can adapt to the workplace.
Online learningCanvas is the University’s new virtual learning environment which supports your learning journey at the University by providing access to module information and learning materials, whereever you are, in the classroom and on the go.
Learn another languageStudying another language could widen your career options and deepen your understanding of other cultures. The Kingston Language Scheme (KLS) ensures that all students can learn another language as part of, or in addition to, their course. We currently offer programmes in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin (Chinese), Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Student insuranceWe strongly recommend that international students have the protection of personal insurance whilst in the UK. To cover you as a student at the International Study Centre, you may wish to purchase our “StudyCare Insurance Plus” insurance cover. This policy will cover you for loss of personal possessions, travel delay, as well as providing medical insurance until the end of your International Study Centre academic programme. You can purchase StudyCare Insurance Plus as part of the application process. If you prefer, you may take out insurance cover with another provider.
