Discoverer Viewer ‐ Creating & Managing Connections Logging In • Launch your web browser. • Navigate to the ‘Sign In’ page using the link

Creating Discoverer Connections In order to use the Discoverer application, each user must first create their individual link(s) to the tool. This setup is performed once per responsibility. Each connection will allow a different level of access and output. To create your permanent connection, click on the ‘Create Connection’ button. Discoverer login details are saved automatically when you create a connection. From then on, you can start Discoverer simply by clicking on a connection name in the Discoverer connections list that is displayed when you run Discoverer.
To create a connection, you must enter specific information in order to access the database and run reports. • ‘Connect To’ field pertains to the type of data
you would like to access. Select ‘Oracle Applications’ as all reports run off the Oracle Application modules.
• Enter a connection name by which you want to identify the new connection in the ‘Name’ field. E.g. MARSH UK DISCOVERER GL.
• (Optional) Enter a description of the connection in the ‘Description’ field.
• Select the language that you want to use from the ‘Locale’ drop down list. Default is ‘Local retrieved from browser’.
• Specify the ‘user name’, ‘password’ & ‘database’ details for the connection that you want to create
• Click on ‘Apply’ button.
�� Database name is ‘OLTP11’
The ‘Select Oracle Applications Responsibility’ page is now launched. Discoverer reports are linked to Oracle responsibilities. You must enter specific information in order to access the database in order to run reports: by country or region (US, EMEA); by business area (T&E, General Ledger). In this screen, Discoverer confirms the parameters previously entered and requires you to select a Responsibility. • Select a ‘Responsibility’ from the drop down list. • Click on ‘Continue’ button.
�� Discoverer responsibilities follow a standard naming convention that contains:
• Company name; • Country or Region; • Type of data
E.g.: MAR GBL DISCOVERER GL USER or GC GBL DISCOVERER AP USER If you do not find the relevant Discoverer responsibility, please follow your local support procedure and contact the Service Desk.

If the user name has access to more than one End User Layer, the ‘Select End User Layer’ page is displayed. • Select an ‘End User Layer’ from the drop down
list. • Click on the ‘Continue’ button.
�� All new Discoverer reports that have been delivered as part of the Phase II project are located within the ‘MMCEULGBL’ End User Layer. If you do not know which EUL to select, please follow your local support procedure and contact the Service Desk.
�� Your connection has been created and you will be prompted back to the Discoverer connection workbench. You will now be able to see all connections you have created.
Launching a Discoverer Connection • Click the ‘Connection’ hyperlink to launch the
Discoverer application.
� If this is the first time you are connecting to Discoverer on the PC, Java (software for running Discoverer Plus) will be automatically downloaded onto the PC. This may take a couple of minutes. • Click the ‘Always’ button when asked.

Editing or Updating Discoverer Connections You can edit a Discoverer connection when you want to change the login details stored for that connection. For example, as per SOX requirements, your Oracle password expires every 90 days and needs to be changed. Once you have performed this change within Oracle you will also need to update it within the Discoverer application. • Click the pencil icon in the ‘Update’ column next
to the name of the connection that you want to edit.
� The Edit Connection page is displayed. • Change the connection details as required (e.g.
password) • Click on ‘Apply’ button • Select again the ‘Responsibility’ attached to the
connection you are updating. • Click on ‘Apply’ button • Select again the ‘End User Layer’ attached to the
connection you are updating.
� You should now be prompted back to the Discoverer connections workbench.

Points to Note Sometimes, when launching an Oracle Discoverer connection, you may face the error message illustrated in the screenshot below. The error message indicates that your login details are invalid (username/password). In most cases, it is related to the fact that your password in Oracle has either expired or has been changed recently. • Click the pencil icon in the ‘Update’ column next
to the name of the connection that you want to edit. .
�� The Edit Connection page is displayed. • Change the connection details as required

Sometimes, after launching a discoverer connection, no reports are available for the user to run. This is normally due to an incorrect setup of the connection: invalid responsibility or invalid EUL selected during the connection setup. • Click ‘Show’ in the Details column to display
more information about the connection you want to check.

Launching a Discoverer Connection Access to Discoverer reports is achieved through connections. Each connection provides access to reports split by:
• Business Area: General Ledger, T&E… • Geography: Region, Country, Set Of Books
• Click on the ‘Connection’ you want to launch. The Discoverer Viewer application is launched as a new web browser window.
�� The list of Discoverer workbooks per Business Area is available through the Discoverer Reports Listing document.
Opening a Discoverer Workbook • Query/Select a report through the ‘Name
contains’ field to reduce the criteria or open up the workbooks directly.
• Point your cursor on the report you want to run
and click on the ‘Open’ button. Remarks:
• Workbooks are Discoverer files that contain worksheets displaying data retrieved from the database. Worksheets contain the data that you want to analyze, together with a number of Discoverer components to help you analyze the data. If you are familiar with spreadsheet applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel), think of a workbook as a spreadsheet file and worksheets as different sheets in that spreadsheet file.
• If a workbook contains multiple
worksheets, you can directly open the worksheet you want to run by using the ‘+’ symbol.
�� Discoverer viewer is configured in a way that offers the user a list of all workbooks available in the responsibility associated with the selected connection.

Running a Discoverer Workbook Before a Discoverer workbook can run, input parameters need to be specified to define the scope of the query. Note: Some reports may not require any input parameters to be specified. The query will be submitted to the database once the workbook is opened. • Complete all required parameters fields
(followed by the ‘*’ symbol). • The ‘Flashlight’ icon indicates that a list of values
is available for the parameter. (See Points to Note Section on Page 9).
• The parameter description box provides
guidelines on the parameter (e.g. specific date format).
• Click on the ‘GO’ button to submit the query
against the database.

Points to Note
Selecting parameter values within a list Discoverer users can select input parameter value(s) from a list of pre‐defined values. Launch the ‘Select Value(s)’ dialog box by clicking the ‘Flashlight’ icon (when available)
• Move value(s) from the ‘Displayed values’ to the
‘Selected values’ list if you can see the value(s) you want to use
• If you cannot see the values that you want in the
‘Displayed values’ list, do one of the following: (1) Use the scroll bar to navigate up and
down the values in the current group (2) Use the ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ buttons
to display the next or previous group of values.
• Limit the values in the ‘Displayed values’ list
using the ‘Search by’ and ‘Search for’ fields, as follows:
(3) Use the ‘Search by’ drop down list to specify how you want to match values.
(4) Enter a search term in the ‘Search for’ field.
(5) Select the ‘Case‐sensitive’ check box to match upper and lower case letters exactly.
(6) Click ’Go’ to start the search. (7) Move values from the ‘Available’ to
the ‘Selected’ list to select them.
• Click ‘Select’ to choose the selected List of Values (LOV) and close the dialog.

Running a Discoverer Workbook • Login to Oracle Discoverer Viewer. • Launch a Discoverer connection. • Open a Discoverer workbook. • Fill in workbook parameters and submit the report to run. • Get query results on the Discoverer Viewer application page.
• Use the Actions menu located on the left hand side of the Discoverer Viewer window to export data using the defaults settings:

Exporting Worksheet Data (Export to Excel) • Click on ‘Export’ and follow the ensuing prompts.
• Select the Export type from the dropdown list and click on ‘Export’ as shown below.

• Click on ‘Click to View or Save’ in the Export Ready window
• Click on ‘Save’ in the File Download window.
� Note: • The default destination path of exported Discoverer workbooks is: C:\Documents and Settings\ [user LAN id].

Exported Discoverer files have the same name as the Discoverer workbook followed by the file type (e.g. ’.xls’;’.htm’).
• When opening the Microsoft Excel file, the ‘Security Warning’ dialog box appears and asks the users what to do
with the macros included in the file. Select the ‘Disable Macros’ option.
• Once the Excel worksheet is displayed, click on File and save the worksheet in the desired location.
Points to Note Sometimes, when exporting Discoverer workbook data, certain messages popup. These usually refer to files with identical filenames already in existence within the directory selected. • Click on ‘Yes’ to overwrite the existing file with the new one.
Note: If you get the following message after selecting the ‘Yes’ option, it means that the existing file is currently open. Close it and restart the export process again.
