When you subscribe in Discussions: (to a Forum, Topic, Thread, you select the Subscribe icon and subscribe within Discussions.
On the Discussions list page choose the second tab: “Subscriptions”• select which subscriptions to display in Display options • select your default Notification method • select Notification frequency.
In the Minibar, in the Personal Settings dropdown settings, choose Account Settings, select Subscriptions and choose how to be notified:
• Minibar alert • mobile phone • email • in your ‘summary of activity’• or all of the above.
OVERVIEW
Click on once to Subscribe to a Topic.
Here it shows you are subscribed. Click it again to Unsubscribe.
You can subscribe to Discussions within Discussions (shown here).
There are two places to select subscriptions display options:
1. On the Discussions page, under the second tab: “Subscriptions”
2. In the Minibar dropdown in Account Settings, you can select subscriptionsand choose how to be notified.
In the Customize Notifications pop-up window, select your Notification Method.
Notifications are shown in the minibar and can be sent to your email or phone. Your email address and phone number are entered in your Personal Settings dropdown for Notifications in the Minibar.
Click Subscribe. Here, t also provides a link to Notifications. (We’ll review Notifications soon).
When you Subscribe, the word changes to “Subscribed”, and the star icon is filled in.
GRID VIEW:1. When you click the Subscribe link within Discussions, a dialog box pops-up asking how you wish to be notified.

READING VIEW:1. When you click the Subscribe link within Discussions, a dialog box pops-up asking how you wish to be notified.
In the confirmation pop-up window, click Yes.
GRID VIEW or READING VIEW. When you select ‘UNSUBSCRIBE’the same dialog box pops up asking you to confirm that you want to stop ‘following’ (unsubscribe) to a Discussion topic or thread.

On the Discussions page select the second tab, “Subscriptions.”

Choose from the dropdown menu which of your current subscriptions to display then select ‘Apply’
(It does not let you subscribe here).
Note the blue underline slides over to the newly opened Subscriptions page.

But to receive Notifications of your Subscriptions, you need to set up your Notification alert system in Notifications and Account Settingsin the Minibar dropdown.

Notifications
Choose Discussion Notifications, but currently you can only be notified through email.
The Notifications page opens so you may choose how you want to be notified.
“SMS”refers to yourMobile phone
Click “Save”.

When you select Account Settings a page opens that allows many different Settings. Open the Discussions tab.
Selecting the tiny Question marks are contextual HELP and when selected bring up an explanation for each setting.
Experiment to see which settings you prefer.
These are same settings whether from the Discussion page Settingsor from the Minibar’s Account Settings on Discussions from the personal dropdown menu.
If you change settings within a course it effects all of your course’s Discussion settings.
If you change settings from your My Home page it effects all of your course’s Discussion settings.
