7. Safety device

limit switch in the central clamping system

In order to improve safety at work your DISPERMAT® CN is fitted with a safety

package in accordance with the data sheet of the EC-Machinery Regulations concerning “high-speed mixers” and DIN EN 292 part 1.

The safety equipment consists of:

• removable and telescope shaft protection pipe of stainless steel

• guided height adjustment device preventing horizontal movement of the agitator. So that the machine is only moveable in vertical direction.

• cetral clamping fixture (clamping range 50-350 mm) with screw adjustment with handwheel; fixed at the stand

• A safety limit switch which is integrated in the central clamping system and switching depends on the pressure.

• An innovative locking device which allows operation only if the dissolver disc is placed within the container. In the sequel this position of the dispersion tool is called H1.

• An innovative locking device which switches off the actuation of the height adjustment as soon as the pre adjusted lowest position of the dispersion tool within the dispersion container is reached. In the sequel this position is called H2. H2 should be adjusted in a way that contact of the dispersion impeller with the container bottom is narrowly avoided.

A start of the dissolver is only possible if the container is clamped and dispersion tool within the container.

The innovation of the new M- and Ctechnology permits operation without safety limit switches and enables the operator to select the required switch points directly via the key pad.

This is realized by a height measuring system which is integrated in the H2L stand. This system permanently measures the height of the dissolver disc and the results are indicated on the display. The height measuring system is permanently checked by a reference switch with three switching positions and is adjusted if required (see below).

The adjustment of the switch points is very easy: The desired switching points are triggered with keys and are safed by pressing the key and (keep the buttons pressed for 2 sec.). Please find an example for this on the next page.

Therefore the distance between H1 and H2 is the working area in which the dispersion takes place. This means the dissolver can only be operated when the dissolver disc is situated between H1 and H2.

Each time the motor is stopped the dissolver can only be started provided that the operator presses the flashing LED of the keys H1 and H2. This guarantees that if the dispersion container is changed the wrong value for H1 and H2 cannot be used by mistake.

The following example shows how to adjust the values H1 and H2.

Instrument: DISPERMAT AE 4-M Container: double wall container, 5 l capacity Dissolver disc: 80 mm Ø

Picture 1 shows the height H1 (125mm) and H2 (10mm) of the previous adjustment as well as the current height of the dissolver disc (200mm).

First this values are to be confirmed by the operator. In case that no alte-ration is required the values can be kept. Otherwise the dissolver disc is first lowered into the container so that it is clearly positioned below the con-tainer rim; this height H1 of e.g. 200 mm is safed with the key H1 (picture 2).

The dissolver disc is then lowered further until it touches the bottom of the container gently. As contact of the dissolver disc with the container bottom during the operation must be strictly avoided, the dissolver disc is lifted 2 mm and the height H2 is memorized with key H2. Because the double wall container has a double wall bottom of appr. 20 mm, the abso-lute distance between the table top and the dissolver disc is 22 mm (pic-ture 2).

During programming the distance from the table top to height H2 (22 mm) is adjusted to zero automatical-ly. When using an 80 mm Ø dissolverdisc the distance of the dissolver disc from the bottom of the container bot-tom (0,5 D) = 40 mm can be adju-sted; this value is permanently shown in the display.

picture 1

picture 2

picture 3

After programming of both heights (H1 and H2) they are faded out and the display indicates the current height of the stirring tool (picture 3).

Every desired change in the distance between the dissolver disc and the bottom of the container which optimi-zes the flow rate during the disper-sion process can now be adjusted exactly and can be logged for future trials.

is not plugged in!

For impeller disks < 70 mm:

• First screw the conical adapter onto the end of the shaft in a clockwise direction until hand tight.

• Hold impeller disk onto adapter and screw on hand tight with an M5 screw.

For impeller disks > 70 mm:

• Screw the impeller disk hand tight onto the end of the shaft in a clock wise direction.

The orientation of the impeller disk can been in the illustration:

One part of the safety device is a limit switch which is installed in the central clamping system. This part switches only if the container is clamped with a slight pressure. When clamping the container (turn hand wheel in clockwise direction) the clamping arms are moving parallel to each other. Therefore it is guaranted that the container is clemped centrically.

8.2 Clamping the dispersion container

Important NoticePlease clamp glass containers and disposable containers carefully.

For thin-walled, cylindric and conical containers we offer special clamping devices. In case of need please ask our sales department.

Furhermore you have the opportunity to fit the position of the clamping arms to the height of your dispersion container.

Important: For this carry the stand in the lowest position. Then unscrew two screws with a five level hexagon socket screw key (see photo) for one rotary motion each. At the same time please hold on the central container clamping device. Attention: Due to the fact that the central clamping device has a raised own weight we recommend to do this adjustment with two persons. Afterwards the desired height can be adjusted. It should have appr. half of the container height.

Timer operation

The pre adjustment of a Timer value can only be made in the Start and Stop mode. For this change with the switching key to the Timer mode. Now a value (min) can be adjusted with the Timer keys. On the display on the left side the Timer setting value is shown and on the right side the Timer actual value (coun-ted up) is shown. In case that no Timer value has been fixed on the left side a “0” is shown and on the right side the progress of time (counted up) is shown. With the start key (Timer ON/OFF) the Timer is activated. The activation is only possible in the Start mode. For cancelling the remaining Timer value and actual value the ON/OFF key is pressed for 2 seconds. With run off of the Timer value the instrument is switched off automatically.

Insert mains plug into a socket. Control lamp comes on..

Press the key. The electronic system is switched on.

The LED of the keys H1 and H2 are flashing. Now the operator is asked to control the prior adjustment of the heights and to confirm them by the according key pressure. In case that the adjustments do not correspond with the container geometry, you must do a new input (see chapter 7.1.)

In case that the container is not clamped yet, it must be clamped now (see chapter 8.2).

Carefully fill vessel with millbase.

Press the key as far as the impeller disc dives in the millbase.

Press the key. Adjust the speed by means of the keys for the speed adjustment.

Press the key to stop the dispersion process.

Warning: The braking time can be up to 10 seconds after the stop key has been pressed depending on the speed.

Important NoticeImpeller disks reach very high peripheral speeds

and are thus dangerous! Therefore take care that the dispersion impeller is only

operated within the container.

10. Cleaning

At the end of the dispersion process the motor should be raised until the impeller disk is slightly above the millbase.

• Press and raise motor as described above.

• Then run at a low speed to centrifuge product remains against the edges of the vessel. ATTENTION: Splashing product!

• Press .

• Raise motor fully.

• Press to switch off the dissolver.

• The dispersion vessel can now be removed.

Important Notice

If you always use the same impeller disk we recommend that this be unscrewed from time to time and the thread bore

cleaned of product remains.

11. Maintenance

The dissolver has a three-phase A.C. motor. The ball bearings have a lifetime lubrication. The motor does not have to be serviced.

The cables, particularly flexible cables, should be checked regularly for damages and replaced by an electrician as required.
