Disputes in business are inevitable. They can be destructive and even fatal to your business. Learn from our expert and highly distinguished speakers what you need to know to make correct and informed decisions in dispute resolution. This is an event not to be missed. It can help you save not only costs and valuable management time but also your business.

In today’s litigious society, from small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to large corporations, even the smallest disputes, whether with competitors or consumers, can be potentially fatal to your business.

Understanding the alternative dispute resolutions that are available to you will guide the decisions you make in trying to resolve a commercial dispute to a best possible outcome. To help you gain that understanding, MICCI has

put together a not-to-be-missed half day event featuring true experts and leaders as speakers on the topic.

Our highly distinguished and respected speakers are Tun Dato' Sri Zaki Tun Azmi, the former Chief Justice of Malaysia, Datuk Sundra Rajoo, Director of Kuala Lumpur Region Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) and Mr Lim Chee Wee, President of the Malaysian Bar.

The talk will provide an invaluable intellectual platform for businesses and corporations to exchange ideas and issues as well as to draw on our expert speakers’ experiences and wisdom in successfully dealing with commercial disputes and conflicts.

SPEAKER

Tun Dato' Seri Zaki Tun Azmi Former Chief Justice of Malaysia 2008-2011

The Honourable Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki Tun Azmi was born on September 12, 1945 in Alor Setar, Kedah. Tun had his early education at Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Alor Setar, Anderson School, Ipoh and English College, Johor Bharu. He then read law at Lincoln's Inn, London and qualified as a Barrister-at-Law in 1969. Tun came from a family of lawyers. His father, the distinguished former Lord President of the Federal Court Mohamed Azmi Mohamed, was the first in the line of Azmi lawyers. His deceased brother was next, followed by Tun. His second son and daughter-in-law are lawyers too. So is his wife who has the distinction of being a first class law student from the International Islamic University Malaysia. After qualifying in law, Tun served with the Malaysian Judicial and Legal Services for 15 years, during which he held the position, amongst others, as Federal Counsel and later, Senior Federal Counsel of the Attorney General’s Chambers. In 1983, Tun was called to the Malaysian Bar and later joined private legal practice. While in practice, Tun sat on the boards of several public listed companies as a director including PETRONAS (the national oil company, which today has spread it wings throughout the world), Malaysia Airports Berhad and SP Setia. Perhaps, it was this management and corporate experience which later gave Tun the vision and ability to help bring back the status of the Malaysian judiciary to what it is today. Tun left legal practice to take up appointment as a Federal Court judge – a first in Malaysian judicial history and was later appointed the President of the Court of Appeal, the second highest judicial office. On 18th October 2008, Tun was appointed the 12th Chief Justice of Malaysia. Tun is deservedly credited with successfully getting rid of age-old backlog problems which largely inundated all levels of the Malaysia courts previously. Under his helm as the Chief Justice, Tun brought about much needed changes which led to the implementation of a system that drastically sped up the time for disposal of cases in the courts to within 9 to 24 months after they are filed. Tun left the judiciary in a far better place than when he joined it. We are indebted to Tun for bringing back a judiciary which is fair, functioning and able.
