DISRUPTIVE TECH
By Justin Cowan,Nick Hoban,
Nicholas Yeager,Simona Iskander
The impact On The Current Software Products used by Corporations, Students, and
Others The Current Software will become obsolete Why buy a laptop, blackberry/smart-phone,
mp3, and etc? Have it all in one hand-held device.
More cost effective and efficient to have all of it in one handheld device.
Drastic change to business world, education, medicine, and etc.
The Winners and The Losers in This Transition
Winners: Google, Oracle, and Motorola (Front
Runners) Apple, not as much and not as fast
thoughLosers: Laptop Manufactures such as Dell, Hp,
and anyone else who doesn’t produce a device up to the new Androids Standards
Networking
The “Dock” will expand where people are able to connect to the internet with a laptop interface
People will no longer need: Wi-Fi Ethernet cables Mobile hotspots
All they need is a cell phone signal People will be able do business and socialize in
a new way All of their work will be able to be carried in a
small mobile device
The Near Future
People are always looking for the next big thing and the “Dock” is it.
I don’t believe that it will replace the laptop or desktop anytime soon.
Once the “Dock” is able to prove itself as a reliable device it will take its place with other portable computing devices.
Organizations Plan
Companies always try to follow trends Many might use the disruptive technology
anyways Competitors of the product will make better
versions Android and Microsoft are working together for
support Want the ability to run both platforms
successfully
Benefits to Corporations
Allows employees to have work saved on phone Can eliminate the risk of losing work or reports
from a hard drive Will allow people to have laptop and
phone combined instead of buying both Saves money More convenient
What are the disadvantages?
Security problems Compatibility issues between the software
on the Android OS and Microsoft OS People that need to use intense resource
software frames cannot use it. Software Developer It Support person Business Employee
There will be trouble replacing PC or Microsoft in the next 3 years, but there is a good possibility in the future.
How will corporations need to change in how they view security and access to systems?
Android relies on Linux version 2.6 released in 2003 for core system services such as security.
Linux 2.6 has many security bugs that the Android OS will have to fix.
In Android’s Marketplace, applications are not evaluated by Google.
The iPhone also supports remote wipe. The Android OS has neither of these features making it less secure.
Motorola is currently working to deliver a more secure OS for businesses.
It is more difficult to secure wireless connections than LANs. A company cannot monitor an employee screen anymore. The employee is more likely to go on forbidden websites.
