The Best Just Got BetterFor 15 years JAMAR has set the standard in vehicle installed Distance Measuring Instruments. Now, we're raising the bar again by introducing the all new RAC Plus series DMIs... the most advanced, yet simplest to use DMIs ever.

These cost effective DMIs allow your field personnel to measure distance as they drive, accurate to 1 foot per mile. It is safer and more cost effective than using the old 'Hand-Wheel'. The addition of optional GPS recording capability adds even more to the capability of these devices.

Tight budgets and smaller staffs demand greater productivity. With only so many hours in a day, better equipment is one of the few ways to get more done in less time. Justifying specific equipment depends on cost vs. payback in man-hours saved. Our DMIs provide an economical tool to increase productivity with a payback often in a matter of days.

Our large display can be read from any angle with four brightness levels to allow for ambient light conditions, whether it be bright sunlight, cloudy, or at dusk/night. Dual display windows simplify and separate distance data from vehicle speed, interval distance, status and menu information. All this in a smaller package (7.8" x 2.3" x 1.2") for mounting to the vehicle dashboard or, with optional bracket, to the windshield.

• New Smaller Case Durable, light weight case (7.8" x 2.3" x 1.2") allows you to mount the DMI virtually anywhere inside the vehicle.

The RAC Plus I brings the accuracy, reliability and productivity of using a vehicle installed distance measuring instrument within the reach of everyone. All distance and speed information can be read directly from the RAC Plus I's display - no software is required to view your data. This unit is a replacement for our older model RAC-100 DMI.

All the features of the RAC Plus I and:• MemoryFrom the outside, the RAC Plus I and Plus II look the same, with the exception of the model designation. But, from the inside, the RAC Plus II has expanded features and capabilities which make it a much more powerful instrument. The RAC Plus II allows you to store an amazing 3500 events in its internal memory. Ideal for inventory applications, the expanded memory means that you need not have a laptop computer in the vehicle to conduct extensive inventories.

Events (signs, guide rails, pavement marking patterns, intersections, telephone poles/pedestals, railroad crossings, bridges, pavement conditions, curb, driveways, bus stops and many other features) are identified in the field by using up to a four digit numeric code (1 through 9999). All this without having to have a laptop with you as you conduct the field work, providing greater flexibility for your field crews. Events are stored in nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) which will hold your data for more than 50 years, or until you clear the memory.

• Data OutputData stored in the RAC Plus II’s memory can be downloaded to a computer in the office or laptop in the field. The data contains the event code (1-9999), distance, interval distance, time (real or elapsed) and vehicle speed for each event. You can store these data files using WinRAC Plus, our low cost software package developed especially for the RAC Plus II. See the back page of this brochure for more details on the WinRAC Plus program.

• Real-Time OutputIf you prefer to use a laptop computer in the vehicle, the RAC Plus II will send distance data direct to the computer on a real-time basis. This provides virtually unlimited memory.

The RAC Plus II takes all the benefits of the RAC Plus I and adds the ability to record and store events to the unit's expansive memory. Detailed analysis and reporting can then be done by downloading to the WinRAC Plus software. It also has the capability to output directly in real-time to a computer with the WinRAC Plus software. This unit is a replacement for our older model RAC-200 DMI.

All the features of the RAC Plus I, RAC Plus II and:• Record Accurate Distances along with GPS CoordinatesExclusive only with the RAC Plus III/GPS, you are able to store up to 30 hours of continuous GPS data, at one second intervals, while recording roadway distance in the RAC Plus III's internal memory. Using this powerful inventory tool, you can record road fea-tures (intersections, bridges, signs, guide-rail, etc.) along with their distance and GPS coordinates.

• Unmatched GPS Recording AccuracyThe RAC Plus III uses a GPS receiver which incorporates the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) for improving accuracy of GPS signals. WAAS uses a correction signal created by a collection of 25 land-based stations that are spread out across North Ameri-ca. This correction signal is then broadcast from specialized communication satellites.

With WAAS enabled, our 12 channel GPS receiver capability allows 2D GPS accuracy of approximately 2 meters. Without WAAS, depending on the location in the continental US and satellite accessibility, horizontal GPS accuracy is approximately 6 meters. This, along with the RAC Pus III's distance accuracy of +/- 1 foot per mile provides unequaled data collection capabilities.

• Several Data Retrieval & Processing OptionsThere are several methods that can be used to retrieve distance and GPS information from the RAC Plus III.

In its most basic configuration, you can simply stop at each point of interest and write down the distance, latitude and longitude from the instrument’s digital display.

A more efficient method is to have the RAC Plus III store the events of interest, along with their distance, latitude & longitude, as you key them in. When using this method, the GPS coordinates can be stored every second while roadway events, with their distance & latitude/longitude, are stored as you enter them. This data can then be easily downloaded to the WinRAC Plus processing software for analysis, reporting or exporting to exter-nal software like Excel or commercially available mapping programs.

Another option is to connect the RAC Plus III directly to a computer running WinRAC Plus in the field. Data can then be viewed in real-time on the com-puter as it is recorded. An advantage of this method is increasing the accuracy of recording GPS data while moving.

The proprietary interpolation routine of WinRAC Plus increases the accuracy of standard GPS receiver data. In plain language, if you manually record a feature while moving, and that event happens to occur between two of the one-second GPS transmissions, WinRAC Plus software will interpolate the feature’s precise location using information from both the GPS data and the RAC data.

The RAC Plus III takes all the benefits of the RAC Plus I and RAC Plus II and adds the flexibility of GPS compatibility, creating an unparalleled combination of accuracy & convenience. This cost-effective unit saves time & money by allowing personnel to measure distance, accurate to 1 foot per mile, while recording GPS coordinates of roadway features – making it the most powerful DMI on the market.

Available only from JAMAR, the Modular Distance Sensor (MDS) is not just an improvement over other electronic interface sensors, but a revolution in how DMIs are installed.

First and foremost, its proprietary circuitry allows accurate slow speed measurements by sensing signals as low as 10 Mv from the vehicle speed sensor. Second, it is designed to be mounted under the dashboard rather than under the hood as with other interface sensors. This gets the MDS out of a severe heat and moisture environment and into a more controlled environment. Third, our exclusive internally generated SENSOR TEST and TAP TEST features allow you to verify proper sensor and instrument operation. Finally, the MODULAR DESIGN simplifies installation.

Modular Distance Sensor...Vehicle Installation Made Easy

• Extremely Accurate MeasurementsThe electronic speed signal in all newer vehicles is an extremely low level signal at low speeds. In fact, many speedometers don’t register under 2-4 MPH. That’s really not a problem for normal vehicle operation but, a BIG problem if you must use their low level speed signals for measuring distance. When the vehicle starts moving, your DMI better start counting. While most other Electronic Sensors will detect low level signal down to only 60-30 millivolts, the JAMAR Modular Distance Sensor will detect down to a 10 mil-livolt signal, providing unparalleled accuracy in distance measuring.

• Highly ReliableAll other manufacturers’ sensors are designed to be installed in a very unfriendly environment... under the vehicle’s hood. High temperatures and exposure of wiring to moisture create unnecessary failures and down time. The JAMAR Modular Distance Sensor is designed to be located inside the vehicle, typically under the dashboard, which not only allows for a cleaner installation but also places the MDS in a much more friendly environment.

• Modular DesignSimple installations are achieved by using three plug-in connectors: one to the DMI, one to 12 volts/ground and one to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). For even greater simplicity, the Quick Kit (exclusively from JAMAR) allows you to plug into the vehicle’s 12-volt receptacle to obtain power/ground. It can’t get much easier than that! Not only is the installation much quicker, it is cleaner than hav-ing to work in the vehicle’s engine compartment.

• Self DiagnosticsOnly JAMAR Modular Distance Sensors have a SENSOR TEST button to verify that the sensor is functioning properly. In addition, a built-in TAP TEST feature allows you to easily verify that the DMI power signal cable, and the DMI itself, are working properly. These simple tests could save a great deal of time, and you don’t even have to raise the hood to perform them!

• Low CostThe MDS Kit from JAMAR actually COSTS LESS than other manufacturers’ conventional under the hood sensor kits.

Since the JAMAR Modular Distance Sensor will work with all brands of DMIs that use the telephone hand-set style connector, you can improve the accuracy and reliability of all your current DMI installations.

• Easy DownloadingSimple point and click selec-tions from the WinRAC Plus toolbar icons make functions like downloading data easy to do. Once you have setup the download screen with the settings desired, simply hook up your RAC Plus and start downloading. You can then analyze and edit your data.

WinRAC Plus is a powerful software program designed by JAMAR Technologies to allow you to interface with the RAC Plus II and RAC Plus III distance measuring instruments. This program can be used to retrieve stored data from the RAC Plus or directly read data in real time to a laptop computer.

Once the data is in WinRAC Plus, it can be easily edited in a familiar spreadsheet style. Comprehensive reports can then be generated. The software comes complete with RAC Plus power supply, connection cable & manual.

• Quick Start WizardEach time you run WinRAC Plus, the Startup Options screen will appear first. The but-tons on this screen correspond to the main features you can ac-cess in the program and enable you to get started quickly.

• Collect Real-Time DataData can be collected in real time by connecting the RAC Plus to a laptop. This allows you to store an unlimited number of events in your study and can provide a high degree of accuracy with GPS data.

• Produce ReportsA comprehensive report of your survey data can be easily cre-ated. The finished report can then be output to either a printer or electronic PDF format.
