Flight to Distinguished or Better in this Metamorphic Year 2015-16
“Passion and teamwork can turn a bunch of ordinary folks into an
unbeatable, winning team.” - Prakah Iyer
Dear Extraordinary District 29 Family,
What a beautiful 10 metamorphic months it has been. I give Thanks to the dedicated effort and selfless
actions of the very Best, the Finest team ever - almost 3,000 Toastmasters strong - including YOU! To
date, District 29 has welcomed 1,000 new members and 11 new Toastmasters clubs this Toastmasters
year! The combined efforts of individual club members have led to 32 clubs already having achieved
Distinguished status or better. To date, 65 clubs have achieved 5 or more DCP goals and are just one
or a few members shy of achieving Distinguished status or better.
Toastmasters is all about “serving and assuring member satisfaction”. As members work on education
and leadership goals, they contribute to the success of the club. The measure of success set by Toast-
masters International is called the Distinguished Club Program. Because many of our clubs are achiev-
ing excellence, our Areas, Divisions, and the District are also propelled to positions of strength and ex-
cellence.
We still have 2 months left before we reach the June 30th finish line. The race is about to enter a very
critical phase—Sprint Time! - where your focus and energy is needed to help our team cross the finishline with success.
May 1st is the start of the “Beat The Clock” membership campaign. I encourage and challenge each of
you to contribute to this final phase by being a player and keeping our Toastmasters mission in mind.
Share "Toastimonials" with your friends, family member, work colleagues, and strangers. Bring them to
your club. Invite them to join so they too can share the “ journey towards empowerment.”
Check the dashboard and see where your club is on the DCP. You can help it be more successful bynot slowing down. Be the runner who helps to brings home the gold for the team. Achieve that addi-
tional DCP goal. Add new members. Be Distinguished or better.
"Winning is about struggle, and effort and optimism, and never, ever, giving up.
~Amby Burfoot
The decisive action taken by each one of us counts and does make a difference. As members, club
officer, or District officers, Let's Continue to Fly Together with Purpose and Strive to Fly even higher on
this Flight to Distinguished or better in this Metamorphic year!
Let's proudly stand together hand-in-hand on the big stage at the 2016 Toastmasters International Con-
vention in Washington DC to receive our accolades for a race well run – for the higher flight that ex-
ceeded expectations.

Best Practices:
Perfect “10” President’s Distinguished Record!
In TM year 2003/2004, World Headquarters completed the digitalization of its records. That made it possible tosort records and identify clubs worldwide that have achieved President’s Distinguished Club status in the Distin-guished Club Program (DCP). The DCP has 10 goals grouped in four areas: Education; Membership; Training;and Administration.
Each year, Toastmasters International publishes a list of clubs that have met the membership requirement andachieved 5 – 6 DCP goals (Distinguished; 7-8 goals (Select Distinguished); and 9 – 10 goals (President’s Distin-guished.) While clubs can achieve President’s Distinguished with 9 goals, and some clubs have had an unbrokenrecord at some point in their history, each year since 2003/2004, Toastmasters International has recognized clubsthat have an unbroken string of 10 for 10 President’s Distinguished honors starting from the time that achieve-ment was first tracked.
At the outset, some 50 clubs had perfect 10 for 10 records. Over the years, some clubs have dropped off the listso currently, of the 15,400 clubs worldwide, only 40 clubs still have “bragging rights” for having 10 for 10 Presi-dent’s Distinguished records since the statistic has been tracked. Half of those perfect “10” clubs are in the U.S.Of those 20, three clubs are in our geography– two in District 29 (the Bennie Bough Club and Lake Ridge.G.U.T.S in District 27 also traces a perfect “10” record back to the beginning of record keeping).
Bennie Bough Club charter member and President, Distinguished Toastmaster Shu Bartholomew, says, “theclub’s outstanding performance is because we have strong club traditions, outstanding meetings focused on theindividual member, and because we make every meeting FUN! Making meetings fun is something that everyonecan and should do.” It was Shu's District Governor theme and is her theme as club President as well.
Shu points out that the Bennie Bough Club has been 10 for10 President's Distinguished every year of its existence, in-cluding its charter year. Few clubs, if any, can claim that ab-solutely perfect record. Shu is proud of another BennieBough club record – “in every year after charter, 7 of 7 Bennie
Bough Club officers have been trained in both TLI seasons. We have a club banner full of Golden Toaster ribbons.”
Bennie Bough is 10 for 10 President's Distinguished again
this year as is Lake Ridge. CONGRATULATIONS!

Taking Your Toastmasters Skills Beyond the Four Walls of Your Club
Learning lessons from stretching your wings far and widesharing the Toastmasters experience with others.
Nick Baskerville, CC
Talk of the District
I recently heard someone say they had 'leveled up' in
a particular skill. I understood that like a video game,
the person had done so well at his current level, he
was moved to the next challenge. For over a year, I've
been a Toastmaster at PWC Employee Club #1973.
I've finished my CC. And while there are ways to level
up inside the club, I thought "Where else can the next
level be found?" Before I knew it, another Toastmas-
ter and I were sitting at the Moth StorySLAM event at
the Howard Theater. Before a sold out crowd, I gave a
personal story infused with the many lessons learned
from Toastmasters. It was at the end of that night that I
realized that Toastmasters helps to bring a potential
out of myself and reach a new level of speaking.
