District 39 Toastmasters Finance Manager Report June 11, 2016 Account Balances through April 30, 2016 follow: Cash, Bank of America (BOA) $ 12,298.14 Cash, Pay Pal 4,137.27 Cash BOA + Pay Pal $ 16,435.41 District Reserve $ 34,939.26 Cash + District Reserve $ 51,374.67 The bank account activity in April was light. The biggest expense was a check sent to the Sacramento Marriot in Rancho Cordova as one of the deposits required for the 2016 Fall Conference. The 2016 Spring Conference (Conference) finances are in process. The vendors have been paid. All but two reimbursements have been sent to the parties, respectively. We are following up with one person regarding missing receipts and one VFR arrived in the mail on June 8. All deposits and checks have been posted to Intacct through the end of May. We are sending paid invoices to those who purchased Conference program ads. Where possible, we will also send a program for those who requested a copy. (For future conference planning, please be sure to order enough programs to provide copies to the major advertisers: that is, the cost of the program shouldn’t exceed the cost of the advertisement.) Toastmasters International closed the books on the third quarter on June 2. George Jarosik and I reviewed the March reports (Profit & Loss Statement and Available Funds Report) last week and will complete the narratives on variances and the Quarter 3 Certification page this week. All expenditures during the fiscal year must be approved by both the District Director and the Finance Manager and comply with Toastmasters International Policy and Protocols. Within those guidelines, we are preparing to transition all account authorizations to the new Finance Manager. This is supposed to be accomplished by July 1, 2016 with the start of the new fiscal year. The current Finance Manager will close out the books for the current year by August and all the records will be sent to Toastmasters International. Serving as your Finance Manager has been a great learning experience. Please work with our new Finance Manager and help him whenever you can. Changes will come. Be patient and remember, we are all volunteers. Some changes will be at his discretion, other changes will be at the behest of Toastmasters International. Have great year! Public Relations Manager Report – June 2016

Ever heard of Espresso.com? No, it’s not a new coffee shop. Espresso.com is a tool like Eventbrite but offers a lot more functionality than Eventbrite. Sondra brought it to the attention of District 39 after perusing District 57’s website. And thanks to Sondra, George, and Reid Walley, District 39 has now implemented this cool tool. Members can now register for D39 events by clicking a link right from the District calendar. Stay tuned for more details!

Congratulations to Donny Crandell, District 39’s winner in the 2016 International Speech contest. This is Donny’s second First Place win in a row and will be flying to Washington D.C. to compete in the 85th Annual Toastmasters International Convention August 17 – 20. Donny will be competing against finalists from around the world. If you haven’t made your reservations yet, there is still time. https://www.toastmasters.org/Events/2016-International-Convention/Full-Registration

As my term comes to a close, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the hard-working, dedicated PR team for their help and support this past year. Social Media Chair: David Goad Webmaster: Veena Vijayaraj-Kadidal Webmaster Assistant: Cynthia Biedermann Website Developer: Reid Walley District Photographer: Bob Cullifer I also want to officially announce Victor Jenkins as District 39’s Audio/Visual Chair. You are such an asset to the team and to District 39!

The PR team would like to Congratulate Veena as the newly elected Division J Director and Reid for his Second Place finish in the International Speech contest. Woo Hoo. You two rock!!!

Speech Makeover Project - A Community Service by Tracy Toastmasters David Goad kicked off the Speech Makeover Project on June 1 at the Tracy Sunrise Rotary with a keynote speech titled 5 Keys to High Impact Speaking. The major benefit for organizations who participate in this project is their members learn great tips on public speaking and how Toastmasters helps in the process. And the benefit to Toastmasters is we make new friends in local clubs and expose our programs to lots of potential new members. David will provide a project update in the coming weeks.
