“All the News that Fits We Print”
Before the Bell
There was no bell at the Sebastopol Rotary Club because our members attended the District Conference in lieu of the regular Friday noon meeting. A makeup is not required if you attended one of the Conference events.
This issue will feature a few of the highlights from the District 5130 conference and primarily the participation of the Sebastopol Rotary club. The District will provide their reportage of the conference.
Photography credits for this issue go to Jerry Meshulam of the Sebastopol Sunrise club who graciously shared the results of his efforts during the conference.
District Business Meeting
District 5130 is now incorporated as a legal corporation. Besides one more sign of being all grown up, there are rules to be followed and duties. Among the rules is the need to have business meetings and to be financially responsible. That includes having dues that cover expenses plus some reasonable reserve. Leonard LaBranche, CPA, is credited with helping the District navigate the rules and responsibilities of a corporation.
Erin Dunn, Rotary Club of Fortuna Sunrise, was confirmed as the District Governor Nominee Designate for 2015-2016.

Recognitions
On Saturday night the District presented their annual awards. In April, all of the clubs in the District were requested to write up and submit applications for awards in the five Avenues of Service.
Our Club received recognition of our outstanding Club Service, Community Service, and International Service. President Edwin
accepted these awards on the Club's behalf. Congratulations to you all.
The Sebastopol Rotary supplied the audio and visual in their usual outstanding manner. [They even made it look like work at times –Ed]. The AV team of Edwin Wilson, John Blount, Ken Jacobs, Paul Thielen, and Ron Puccinelli did a masterful job of changing from “party” (conference) attire to AV mode.

After The Bell
After the bell, the real fun begins. Members of the Sebastopol Rotary got to help the AV team separate and coil up miles of cable, disassemble and box up stage lighting, and fold up massive screens into impossibly small boxes. We got to learn new terms like CAT5 and ¼ inch cable, each type of cable has a box all to itself, and learn how to accordion fold. [Unfortunately I missed the chance to accordion fold, but there is always next time –Ed.].

#68: Rotary World Peace Scholarships
In 1999, The Rotary Foundation launched the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution, a partnership with eight leading universities around the world to provide advanced educational opportunities for a group of Rotary World Peace Scholars chosen from various countries and cultures. Each year, 70 scholars are selected to begin two-year master’s-level degree or certificate programs in conflict resolution, peace studies, and international relations. Each Rotary district may nominate one candidate for a world-competitive selection process every year. The first World Peace Scholars began their studies in the 2002-03 academic year.
The Rotary Centers will provide future leaders with opportunities to study the root causes of conflict, theories of international relations, and effective models of cooperation. Beyond academics, Rotary Scholars will gain practical tools in conflict resolution for use in their chosen careers. The Rotary Centers will also help to advance research, teaching, and publication on issues related to conflict resolution and world understanding.
The Rotary Centers for International Studies mark an exciting new chapter in Rotary’s mission to help achieve world understanding and peace. It is envisioned that Rotary World Peace Scholars will contribute significantly to the world commu¬nity in a variety of ways working for international agencies such as the United Nations or for governments as
diplomats, foreign service officers, economists, or policy analysts.
Rotary Club of Santa Rosa West is presenting this program on July 13th.
