Districtwise Agromet Advisories

Chennai ,Kancheepuram ,Villupuram ,Thiruvannamalai ,Thiruvallur ,Vellore & Cuddalore

Livestock: If there are lice and flea infestation is sheep, goat or calves ectoparasiticides like fipronil spray or any medicated dip is recommended. To avoid fluke infestation in ruminants and to destroy intermediate host development the snails around the pond must be destroyed. Since winter is prevailing, the calves or kids pen should be covered with gunny bags at the side walls to prevent cold stress. To prevent cold stress to young ones and dairy animals sufficient heating facilities may be provided. Dairy cattle and pregnant ones should not housed in open paddock during winter to prevent cold stress. The farrowing sows and the newly born piglets must be protected from cold weather. To prevent piglet mortality due to cold stress, straw may be provided as bedding. Agriculture Imp. Crops: Rice, Sugarcane and Groundnut Since there are less chances of rainfall, the farmers are advised to harvest matured paddy crop. There are chances of incidence of leaf folder in rice hence the farmers are advised to take precautionary measures.

Karaikal For rice fallow pulses, black gram variety ADT 3 @ 25 kg/ha may be used for sowing till 31st January. Greengram variety, ADT 3 @ 25 kg/ha shall be used for sowing till second week of February. Broadcast

the seeds 7days prior to harvest of paddy crop. Rice fallow pulses may be treated with Trichoderma

viride @ 4g/kg of seed (or) Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 10 g/kg seed. After treating the seeds with biocontrol agents treat the seeds with 3 packets (600 g/ha) of Rhizobial culture CRU-7 and 3 packets

(600 g/ha) of Phosphobacteria using rice kanji as binder and shade dry the seeds before sowing. To control blast in rice, spray Carbendazim 50 WP or Tricyclozole 75 WP or Metominostrobin 20 SC or Azoxystrobin 25 SC @ one gram or one ml in one litre of water. To control bacterial leaf blight in rice spray Copper hydroxide 77 WP @ 2.5g/ litre or 20% fresh cow dung extract or 5 % Neem Seed Kernel Extract. In cattle, as a preventive measure for Babesiasis disease, apply Butox @ 2 ml/l of water on cattle and also spray it on the nearby areas of the cattle shed to control ectoparasites. In goat, as a preventive measure for Enterotoxaemia disease, vaccinate the animals once in a year before the onset of monsoon and don’t allow the goat to feed on wet and young grass.

Puducherry For rice fallow pulses, black gram variety ADT 3 @ 25 kg/ha may be used for sowing till 31st January.

To control blast in rice, spray carbendazim 50 WP or tricyclozole 75 WP or metominostrobin 20 SC

or azoxystrobin 25 SC @ one gram or one ml in one litre of water. To control bacterial leaf blight in rice spray copper hydroxide 77 WP @ 2.5g/ litre or 20% fresh cow dung extract or 5 % neem seed kernel extract. Haemorrhagic Septecemia occurs during rainy season. So vaccination has to be given one month earlier to rainy season. The affected cattle must be separated and suitable treatments should be given after consultation with veterinarian. Openly grazed animals that are drinking pond water should be dewormed.

Coimbatore, Erode & Tiruppur Agro Advisory Dry weather with increasing day and night is expected. Provide irrigation based on soil moisture. Irrigation to samba rice crop has to be stopped to facilitate harvesting when the crop is matured. Interval between irrigation in turmeric crop has to be increased to facilitate the maturity. Prevailing weather is favorable for pod borer incidence in Bengal gram hence farmers are request to monitor the incidence of above pest and dust malathion or fenthion 5% dust @ 10kg / ac when sufficient soil moisture is available. Prevailing weather condition is favorable for the ear head bug incidence in paddy crop hence farmers are requested to monitor the crop carefully if required spray dichlorvos @ 2ml/liter of water. White fly incidence is seen in tapioca hence farmers are requested to monitor the crop carefully and place yellow sticky trap in 5 or 6 places and if required spray diazophos @ 2ml/water or imidacholoprid @ .6ml/ liter of water. Due to non-receipt of rain for the past 20 days, spray PPFM @ 200ml/ acre in 200 litres of water to maintain greenness of the crops. Slightly higher wind speed is expected, hence susceptible crop like sugarcane and banana may be given suitable anchorage. Prevailing weather may cause high thirst for water in animals. Provide adequate drinking water to the animals to prevent from water thirst. To prevent the mastitis in mulching cows, the udder cows may be regularly cleaned with potassium permanganate solution before and after milking. Further animals shelters may be cleaned with bleaching powder solution. SMS advisory Prevailing weather condition is favorable for the ear head bug. Spray Dichlorvos @ 2ml/liter of water.

Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri & Krishnagiri Special Weather Advisory Bulletin for Poultry and Livestock Farming: For the next four days in Namakkal district, the sky will be clear without any rains. The day temperature

will be high (33.0C; 91.4F) and night temperature will be low (18.0C; 64.4F) along with mist. Wind speed will be high and relative humidity will be 40 % maximum. During the last week of January, usually the night temperature is low and day temperatures are slightly higher indicating late winter. All these days will witness wide variation in the temperatures. Above weather conditions may cause some stress to livestock and poultry. This will largely influence the bird’s ability to consume more feed, reduced egg production in birds and decreased milk yield with low fat in dairy animals. It can be prevented by addition of vegetable oil @ 5 kg / tonne in the feed for birds. Animals shed should be protected from cold by covering the side and top walls of the shed. 3. Post mortem observations in the birds brought for diagnosis at Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory, VC & RI, Namakkal revealed death of birds due to Wing rot and Upper respiratory tract infection. Hence, farmers are advised to test the feed ingredients for Clostridia, Staphylococcus and E. coli load and follow appropriate feed management measures and bio security measures in the farm. Special Agro advisory from Krishi Vigyan Kendra:

Ariyalur, Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur & Tiruchirapalli

Crop: Rice For the management of false smut of rice, prophylactic spraying of fungicides viz., Probiconozole (200 ml/acre) or Copper hydroxide (500 g/acre) at the time of booting and milky stages may be adopted. For the ensuing season, rice fallow pulses viz.., blackgram ADT 3, 6 and ADT 3 green gram varieties are

suitable for sowing. Harvested paddy seeds may be dried to 13% moisture content to prevent pests damage in storage. Livestock Due to drop in night time temperature the livestock particularly the young ones should not be left in open. A proper night shelter with sufficient heating equipments must be provided to prevent the incidence of pneumonia.
