SS6 7DT Tel: (01268) 770172 Finance. The District Executive Committee have reviewed District finances at its latest meeting and noted that the excess of expenditure over income of approx. £4,500 in the year ending 31st March 2015 is likely to be exceeded in this financial year and again next year unless action is taken to remedy the situation. The following decisions were made: a) The membership fee payable for members aged 17 and under to be increased in 2016 to £34. b) To help pay for the additional amount of membership fee every group should register for and claim gift aid on subscriptions. c) In future all District “Fun Events” should become self-funding. d) Grants for activities training should be reduced to 50%. It is proposed to run an evening course to explain how to register for Gift Aid and to make claims. This will probably take place in January. Also as advised in a previous newsletter Groups will only be able to seek financial help from the Group Support Fund for young people whose parents cannot afford camp fees if the Group claims Gift aid. Visits. I have visited a large number of section meetings and as ever been impressed by the quality of scouting offered at most meetings. Our new Network section hosted a good number of Explorer Scouts at a very enjoyable fireworks display at Ark Lane. Swimming Gala. It was good to see a large number of cubs, scouts and explorers at the gala. Congratulations to 2nd Thorpe Bay who won the completion in both the Cub and Scout 12-13 sections, to 4th Thorpe Bay who won the Scout 12-13 section and to Patriot who won the Explorer section. Thanks to Dick Vale, Ian Dobbin, Mike Bambrook and Mark Chapman for organising the event, OASIS for judging the races, Colin MacLeod for producing the certificates and Emma Bearman for completing them and the leaders who brought a good number of teams to the event. New leaders and adult helpers / DBS clearances / Interviews and references. As set out in last month’s newsletter please try and make sure all these are up to date and that Sheila Fenner and I are advised of any new adults starting in the District.

Scouts from 11 troops took part in our last district event for 2015, the Swimming Gala. The Scouts enjoyed an evening of team relay races, including a float relay with inflatable bananas and hammers and a duck collecting relay, as well as conventional swimming. Thanks to all who helped make this event a success.

Congratulations to 4th Thorpe Bay and 2nd Thorpe Bay, who won the Scouts 10-11 and Scouts 12-13 competitions respectively.

For this final news and notes of 2015, I thought of looking back over the year, to celebrate all the activities and camps we’ve provided for our Scouts, and what they’ve achieved, both in the troops and at district events. Rather than a long written account, I hope this provides a flavour of the variety of adventurous, challenging and fun activities.

It’s been a pleasure to lead the Scout section this year. I hope you all enjoy a well-earned break over Christmas, and look forward to another great year of Scouting in 2016

Network Scout Report December 2015

Following on from last month's disappointing District Network launch, the now annual fireworks event took place on 10th Nov, this was extremely successful, the event was enjoyed by all, lots of thanks have been received, including a large number of the Explorers on the evening itself saying 'thank you'. It was a pleasure to have their company.

The following week again saw a regular slot in our calendar, the pudding party, several rather rich desserts were sampled and Rachel for the second year running declared the winner. The programme for December runs as follows.

Tues 1st - QuizTues 8th - Poker nightTues 15th - Cards against humanityMONDAY 21st - Visit Columbus @ Shoebury

Don't forget all scout members aged 18 - 25 are Networkers, would be good to see a few new faces along to the meetings Southend Estuary DHQ Tues 8pm - 10pm. Except last Tues of the month.
