About Janjgir Champa District

Janjgir Champa is a district of Chattisgarh State. The district is situated in the center ofchattisgarh so it is considered as the heart of the state. Janjgir is headquarter of districtwhich is the city of Maharaja Jajawalya Dev of the kalachuri dynasty. Historically, theDistrict of Janjgir-Champa came into existence on 25th May, 1998.

Geographically, the district encompasses a geographical area of 3,853 sq km area andoccupies the ranks 18th in State and 312th in India on the bases of this size. It lies at 21°98'N latitude, 82°65'E longitude and 294 m altitude. In the year 2015, the district hadtotal 4.02% forest area of total geographical area. The Hasdeo–Bango canal drains waterfor irrigation to the district. Under this project 3/4 area of the district will be covered forirrigation. Most of its rainfall occurs in the monsoon season. The actual rainfall in thedistrict was 928.8 mm in the year of 2015-16.

Administrative wise, the district is divided into 10 sub-district, 15 towns and 892 villages.Hindi is its official language . There are 1 parliamentary and 6 assembly constituencies inthe district.

Demographically, according to 2011 census, the district has a total number of 3,77,496households with a total of 16,19,707 persons comprising 8,15,717 are males and8,03,990 are females . The population growth rate during the period 2001 to 2011 was22.94% of which 23.71% were males and 22.18% were females. The density ofpopulation of the district is 420 (persons per sq km ). The sex ratio is pegged at 986(females per 1000 males) while the child ratio stands at 950 (females per 1000 males).The schedule caste population of the district is recorded as 3,97,908 including 1,99,633are males and 1,98,275 are females. The percentage of Schedule Caste is 12.15%. Theschedule tribe population is 1 ,87,196 persons including 93,186 are males and 94,010 arefemales. The percentage of Schedule Tribe is 2.39%. The percentage of major religionspracticed by the people of this region is Hindu at 98.60%. In the year 2001, thepercentage of the principal languages of the region was Hindi at 98.69%.

Economically, agriculture is the main source of income for the people of the district. Thedistrict produces food grains mainly and provides local market for fresh farm supplies. Itis main centre for agricultural trade and famous for lime-stone. The district has becomepower hub due to 52 power plants. Wardha Power Plant is being considered secondbiggest upcoming private thermal power plant of Asia. It is one of the fastest growingdistrict in India. The GDDP or Gross District Domestic Product during the period 2006-07was Rs 2,89,296 lakh at Current Price and Rs 2,07,604 lakh at Constant (1999-2000)Prices. The NDDP, or Net District Domestic Product during the period 2006-07 was Rs2,58,993 lakh at Current Price and Rs 1,85,326 lakh at Constant (1999-2000) Prices. ThePer Capita Income or NDDP, at Factor Cost during the period 2006-07 was Rs.17,606 atC urrent Price and Rs 14,710 at Constant (1999-2000) Pric es.

The total literate population of the district is10,19,634 comprising 5,93,679 are males, and 4,25,955 are females. Gyan Bharti highersecondary school, Gyan bharti higher secondary school ( janjgir), Lions English HigherSecondary School (Champa), DBM Agriculture Higher Secondary School (Link RoadJanjgir), Shri Kailashpat Singhania Hr Sec. School (Gopal Nagar), R. K. Singh HigherSecondary School (Akaltara) are the name of the some important schools of the district.There are also available a number of colleges such as Pt Hari Shanker college ofeducation ( janjgir), Utkarsh college of education ( janjgir), Ayushman nursing college{ANM} (Janjgir), Indian Institute of Handloom and Textile Technology (Champa), Govt.M.M.R Post Graduate college (Champa), Thakur Indrajeet Singh Mahavidyalaya(Akaltara), etc. There are also a number of ITIs namely DBM Industrial Training Institute(Link Road Janjgir), Govt. Industrial Training Institute ( Janjgir), Govt. Industrial TrainingInstitute (Akaltara), Yash ITI ( Lachhanpur, Champa), etc.

Rajesh Nandini Singh is the member of Indian National Congress, born on 23rd March,1967 in the Janjgir-Champa district. She represented constituency of Madhya Pradesh inthe 15th Lok Sabha. She also served as the member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislativeassembly from 1993 to 1998.

The district has numerous famous historical and religious places to visit. These placesare Vishnu Mandir Janjgir, Adbhar Devi Temple, Madanpurgarh Devi Mandir, PithampurShiv Mandir, Ghatadai Paharia Tripur Singar Devi, Turridham Shiv Temple, Kanhara, DewarGhata, Damudhara Rishabthirth, Laxmaneshwar Temple, Kharaud, Shivarinarayan Templeand Chandrahasini Temple. The Vishnu Mandir of the district tells about the glorious pastof this district. It is an ancient artistic sample of Vaishnav community. During 2015, total12,01,014 domestic tourists and 29 foreign tourists visited the above places.
