Marriage – Main Findings

ØMean Age at Marriage boys(20.7),girls(17.7)ØGirls marrying before reaching 18 years of age

between the two rounds of DLHS.

ØOut of total births, many states (AP, Bihar,Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, UP, WB)have higher % of births to women aged 15-19years

ØLarge no. of women (44% or higher) do not wantany child after two children

ØMean number of children ever born to womenaged 40-44 declined in most states.

Ø Infertility as high as 14% in some states (Goa,Karnataka, WB)

Antenatal Care Services

ØProportion of women availing any ANC andcomplete package of ANC services hasincreased

Institutional Deliveries

Ø Increased in most of the states in the countryØHigh-focus states have shown tremendous

growth in ID barring Sikkim, Jharkhand andChhattisgarh

ØMaximum increases in ID have been witnessedin states of Orissa, Bihar, Rajasthan and MP

Ø In Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, UP, theJSY assistance is received by a lower percentage of women

Ø In Rajasthan ID increased 15.2% compare withDLHS2

CPR and Unmet Need for FamilyPlanning

ØStates with low CPR have higher levels of unmet need and the converse is true.

ØUnmet need higher than CPR in states of UP,

Bihar and JharkhandØCPR has been marginal in most of the states

barring Rajasthan

ØStates such as-UP, Jharkhand, MP, Bihar,

Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, TN, Kerala andPondicherry have depicted decline in spacingmethod use.
