Hello I-I District Clubs!
Volume I, Issue 5 Illinois –Eastern Iowa District Secretary September 2013
Novak’s News
First of all, I want to congratulate all of the clubs who earned
their Roster-In-On-Time (RIOT) Award! Thanks to the efforts of many
individuals, 108 schools in the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District will be
recognized at Fall Leadership Rallies and at the District Convention. If
your school has not yet turned in its roster, that is okay! Please visit the
district website at iikeyclub.org and download a Club Officer Roster
Template under the forms section. The data gathered from these
forms allows the District Board to stay in contact with the school
board members. We can then pass on information about fundraisers,
service projects, leadership training, etc. The complete list of schools
who have submitted rosters from the 2013-2014 school year are on the following page.
Will you be attending a Fall Leadership Rally in your area? I
hope so- you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the District, our
Service Partners, Key Leader, District Convention, train School Board
Officers, and learn how to run for District Office! Additionally, I have
created a District Guide for the clubs who attend. This is a CD with
many useful files and documents in running a club. It has solutions
for recruiting, fundraisers, training officers, running meetings, hosting
events, etc. If a member from your school attends, be sure to pick one
up!
I look forward to having an opportunity to meeting everyone at
Fall Leadership Rallies over the next few weeks! Feel free to contact me
before then if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Yours in Service,
Graham Novak

Official Newsletter of the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Statistical Secretary
I hope you have all had a great start to the new
school year! Now is an excellent time to step back into
Key Club full force and make this year great!
Remember to keep reporting by the 10th of every
month at the I-I District website and to contact me if
you are having any trouble regarding reporting. It’s
great to hear directly from you!
The next monthly report is due October 10
covering the month of September. If your club has missed two consecutive
reports, it is currently not in good standing. Our goal for the year as a district is
80% reporting. Please contact your lieutenant governor to find out if your
club has all their reports in and be sure to go back and submit any missed
reports! If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me! I’d love to help
you out.

PAUER PRESS DISTRICT TREASURER NEWSLETTER
I hope you’re all doing fantastic! Recently, I’ve made
a lot of documents on topics such as paying early bird dues
and dues explanations that could be really beneficial to
treasurers. If your lieutenant governors haven’t sent these
documents to you yet, please let me know and I’ll send them
to you myself. They are very useful for what I’m going to talk
about next.
As you all probably know by now, the Membership
Update Center is now live and ready for use! Our goal this
year is to have early bird dues payment increase by 25%. So
please follow the schedule I made and look over any
documents for more information. By now, clubs should have
started to collect dues, if not finishing their collection. Happy
dues season!
Please remember to go to your regional Fall
Leadership Rallies! I’ll be presenting a forum for treasurers
there! Hope to see you at the FLRs!
Together in service,
Alex Pauer

Dues Amount:
$11.50
Dues deadlines to keep in mind:
November 1st Early Bird deadline
December 1st Final deadline
These dates are approaching quickly! With the
Membership Update Center up and running, clubs
can now start to submit dues. Be sure your clubs
know when/how to submit dues! Contact your
Lieutenant Governor for information on the dues
process.
So what are these “dues” you speak of?
Dues are a small amount paid by Key Club members in order to belong to Key Club International. In the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District, dues are $11.50 ($6.50 goes to International and $5.00 goes to district). However, clubs may also charge an additional amount for
fundraising/housekeeping purposes.
How do I pay dues? (General process; in 5 easy steps)
1. Sometime in September, club advisors should receive an email from the District Administrator regarding the dues process. The email
should contain information about Membership Update Center log-ins.
2. Log onto http://soapmu.kiwanis.org/. This will take you to the Membership Update Center.
3. Using the information from the email sent to the club advisor; sign in and create a password.
4. After you're logged in, fill in the information or edit the information (delete graduated seniors) for all members.
5. Once the electronic form is completely filled out and updated, print the invoice out and mail that, along with dues money to the Key Club
International Office at: 3636 Woodview Trace Indianapolis IN, 46268
THE PAST YEAR… The past year alone provided many reasons to stay committed to Key Club:
Key Club members provided more than 13 million service hours around the world.
Key Club members raised more than $1.5 M for The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal neonatal tetanus.
Clubs made a local impact-providing food for families in need, revitalizing forgotten playgrounds, developing anti-bullying systems… and much more.
More than 2,000 members graduated from Key Leader, our weekend leadership experience.
Ongoing partnerships with Nickelodeon, Hershey’s Track and Field, the U.S. Army and Rustic Pathways broadened the scope of members’ opportunities.
Let’s do it again! Renew your membership today. Follow the steps above by November 1.
Hello Club Editors!
I want to talk to you guys about some awards you can apply for
and receive at this years District Convention. Editors, here is a
bit of information about how to apply for these awards! For the
Distinguished Editor Award, all you have to do is check mark
the criteria that you have completed as Club Editor, and then have your club advisor
and president sign off on it. You need at least 20 points to earn the award! For the
Public Relations award, you and your club officers/advisor will help you fill this
out. All you need to do is attach the following items to show that you are publicizing
Key Club around your school and community! Your club needs at least 200 points
out of 505 points to receive the award! For the Club Bulletin/Newsletter Award,
Club Editors are judged on if they are creating newsletters for their clubs on a regu-
lar basis. Editors need to have created at least 3 newsletters and they need to mail
them with the application enclosed in an envelope for proof.. Lastly, for the Iolian Submission Award, your club needs to be one of the top three clubs in our entire
district to submit the most articles for our district publication, the Iolian. This award
is a non-application award, so you don’t have to fill out any application. It is also
fairly easy to receive, all your club members and officers have to do is submit as
many articles as possible about cool service projects they hosted. If you would like to
know how many articles your club has submitted, please contact me! Remember, all
awards, except the Iolian Submission Award, needs to be mailed to our Awards
Committee chair before the postmark date! Check our iikeyclub.org award’s tab!
District Awards must be mailed before December 20th!

FAQ:
Why should we add another service
club? Key Club is different than most other service clubs because it is completely service lead. We are also
different because Key Club is part of a large family
starting with our parent club, Kiwanis.
Where can I get help? Regional training sessions are
available and are coming up in the next couple months if you are interested in attending please
contcact your LTG.
How many members does it take to start a club? This question is on everyones mind! want to know the magic number?!
15 it only takes 15 people to start your journey with Key Club international!
Brought to you by: New Club Building and Membership Development Committee
Are there meeting requirements? NO. It is up to each
individual club on when and where to hold meetings. This way each club can have flexible hours that
meets everyones schedules.
I hope this answer some of those pesty questions you can never seem to find the answer to. If you need any other questions answered please feel free to contact me text/call at 815-508-6797, or at

I-I District Project: What is Spastic Paralysis What is Spastic Paralysis? It’s not a lone disease, but a series of them (Alzheimer’s Spina Bifida, brain tumors, etc.), and they cause the central nervous system to function incorrectly. Our District has raised money for Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation every year since 1977. The foundation was founded by Kiwanis, an organization that we work with a ton! Our District alone has I-I District raised $35,000 for the foundation. This year I-I District has a goal of raising $40,000 for Spastics! We need YOUR help to reach this goal. I will be giving each division a personalized goal for the year (which your Lieutenant Governor will be relaying to you). Remember, that is a goal; we want you to go ABOVE and BEYOND those goals! If we all work together, we can reach our goal for Spastic Paralysis, which actively seeks cures to Spastic Paralysis.
Hey Mighty I-I District! I would first off like to thank you all for your hard work and dedication to raise money for Spastic Paralysis! We will be having fundraisers for Spastics at EACH of the Fall Leadership Rallies. Check them out!
Make sure that each of your club knows their individual club goal is before the FLRs! Let me know if you need help deciding who gets what goal! I am very confident that they will all reach those goals, and even go above and beyond them. Keep up the great work and together we will reach our 2013-2014 goal of $40,000!
It’s official! The Official 2013-2014 Awards Book is now available. Although we didn’t add any new awards, several of them had criteria changes. So, if your club is planning on submitting applications for awards, please check the updated requirements and make sure you can meet them. The book is available at iikeyclub.org under the awards tab or you can get it from your Lieutenant Governor. It will also be available at all Fall Leadership Rallies.
New Awards Book
Club T-Shirt and Video Contests Club T-shirts and videos are a great way to spread the Key Club Pride and win an award at DCON! Many clubs already get club t-shirts and make videos for their own member recruitment, so why not submit them at DCON for consideration for an award? For more details, see page 27 of the Awards Book.
