MARKET UPDATESAccording to the World Bank, Vietnam’s economy has developed rapidly, with a GDP growth rate of about 7%, one of the fastest growing in Southeast Asia. This has resulted in greater spending power for the population and a steep increase in the country’s air conditioner market.
The Asian Nikkei Review reported that Vietnam’s market for cooling systems is one of the fastest growing in Asia, with unit sales having surged from 660,000 in 2011 to 1.98 million in 2016. It is currently the second largest market in Southeast Asia.
In mid-October 2018, Johnson Controls–Hitachi Air Conditioning partnered with Thang Uy group (TUG) to o�cially form a sales company that provides a wide range of air-conditioning solutions in Vietnam, from energy-e�cient commercial and residential air-conditioners to high-power cooling equipment, and other related services.
Japan’s Daikin Industries has invested 10 billion yen to build a factory with annual output of 1 million air conditioning units just outside Hanoi. South Korea’s LG Electronics has also invested $1.5 billion to raise air conditioner production by 2028 at a factory in the northern city of Haiphong.
