Winter Trainer Series

Dive Rescue II Dive Rescue II is an intensive five-day course in advanced dive rescue skills. Dive Rescue International has developed this training course to enable public safety divers to successfully meet the challenges of their environment, maximize their resources, and safeguard their own lives in a multitude of water-related operations.

Prerequisites: Students must be a member of a public safety agency, at least 18 years of age and have Dive Rescue I certification. All participants must read and complete an RSTC Medical Statement prior to attending class. Any diver answering yes to a contraindication is required to have a physician's signature to participate in the diving portions of the program.

Med Dive This is an in-depth study of preventative and on-site emergency care for injured divers. This program is a must for any team interested in optimizing member safety. Skills learned can be used by non-medical personnel as well as the most experienced responder. The program is recommended for all emergency medical professionals, rescue and dive team members. Course topics include: Medical evaluations of divers, Decompression physiology and bubble formation, Signs and symptoms of decompression sickness, Pulmonary barotrauma, Rapid field neurological exam, Field treatment of compressed gas injuries, Oxygen administration, Post-diving considerations, Integration of Med Dive Specialists into dive operations, Advanced treatment principles, and Monitoring of divers. *Entire program will be held in the classroomPrerequisites: All students must be a member of a public safety agency or health care field, and be at least 18 years old. Students must bring verification of current First Aid and CPR.Be Sure to Bring: Students must bring a pen, pencil, notebook and proof of CPR and First Aid training.

All diving programs are designed for personnel who are physically fit. Participants are encouraged to participate after successfully completing the IADRS Watermanship Test or testing to a fitness level of 13 MET (Metabolic Equivalents) or greater. Participants with aerobic fitness questions or concerns should consult their physician prior to in-water training. Participants who have poor aerobic fitness may attend this program as surface support personnel with the approval of the instructor.For Diving Classes - Be Sure to Bring: US Coast Guard approved P.F.D. with knife and whistle, adequate clothing and protection from the environment and pen and paper for note-taking and sketching. Diving students must provide their own equipment: Scuba regulator: recently serviced and environmentally protected with alternate air source (i.e.: octopus, Air II, etc.), timing device, depth and submersible pressure gauges, BC with oral/power inflator, two tanks with current Hydro & VIP, mask, snorkel, fins, weight belt and two cutting tools (knife, wire cutters, or trauma shears)

Public Safety Scuba InstructorOur most physically demanding and study intensive program. This unique program is designed to help dive teams cost effectively develop certified Public Safety Divers (PSDs). By sending one of your team’s most experienced divers through this program, your department’s Public Safety Scuba Instructor (PSSI) will be able to standardize non-divers and open-water divers as PSDs. A PSD certification combines the fundamentals taught in an open-water class with an emphasis on the exacting skills required to successfully dive in a rescue/recovery operation. After completion of the PSSI program, graduates may purchase PSD student kits to train members of their own department as PSDs. *50 hours pre-course study & 60 hours of instruction over 5 days.Prerequisites: All students must be: a member of a public safety agency, at least 21 years of age, open water scuba certified with a minimum of 100 logged dives (at least 50 of the dives must be public safety training or operational dives), and must have current First Aid and CPR training. Students must also provide a completed RSTC medical statement signed by a physician and have certification in Dive Rescue I and Med Dive.

Dive Rescue I TrainerThis program is designed for the department trainer who through experience and education is prepared to advance to the prestigious position of a Dive Rescue I Trainer. You already have an extensive knowledge of scuba diving and rescue/recovery operations, now learn how to teach more effectively and confidently. Completion of this program allows graduates to teach the Dive Rescue I program to members of their own department. The Dive Rescue I program teaches the fundamentals of dive team operations. This is an excellent opportunity to standardize training throughout your department in a cost-effective manner. Student kits must be purchased in order to teach the Dive Rescue I program. *50 hours pre-course study & 60 hours of instruction over 5 daysPrerequisites: All students must be: a member of a public safety agency, 21 years of age, a Public Safety Scuba Instructor or certified current recreational scuba instructor, and current in First Aid and CPR. Students must also provide a completed RSTC medical statement signed by a physician, and have current certification in Dive Rescue I, Dive Rescue II & Med Dive.

Winter Trainer Series

Dry Suit Diving TrainerThe Dry Suit Diving Trainer (DSDT) is a 24 hour/3 day course designed to extend the knowledge of current Public Safety Scuba Instructors (PSSI) and Dive Rescue I Trainers (DRIT). Successful candidates will return to their department with a complete training system to be used with the Dry Suit Student Kits purchased from Dive Rescue International. This program will allow the DSDT to teach Dry Suit Diving to in-house personnel at a minimal cost. Topics include teaching adults, evaluating students, cold water physiology, emergency procedures and techniques of dry suit diving, types, styles, features, selection, care, maintenance and minor repairs, why and how dry suits leak and dive equipment system integration. This course is recommended for all PSSIs and DRITs.Prerequisites: All Students must: be a member of a public safety agency, be at least 21 years of age, have documentation of 10 dry suit dives, be sponsored by a public safety agency, be a current PSSI or DRIT and have First Aid and CPR certification. All diving students must complete an RSTC Medical Statement. (Students may attend class under a provisional status until all 10 dives are complete) Students must provide own Dry Suits.

For Trainer programs (Public Safety Scuba Instructor, Dive Rescue I Trainer, Dry Suit Diving Trainer)All trainer programs require a completed application as part of the registration process. Completion of an application does not guarantee a reservation to the programs. You will be notified of your acceptance or denial into any of our trainer programs. All applications must be received by Dive Rescue International at least 45 days prior to the start of the program.
