Opening sequence conventions: The film opens with the Summit entertainment logo, the red wagon entertainment loge, and titles which says the production company about to introduce the film.

Opening Sequence Conventions: The title of the film is shown before anything happens. The title zooms bigger showing audience the movie is about to start and get interesting, creating a sense of tension and excitement for audiences.

Genre Conventions: The choice of colour and font is the same as the theme of titles before hand. This is showing the continuous theme of the film and links everything together. The choice of the size of the font, colour and lighting of specific parts emphasises the genre, as the colour is a brownish orange burnt out colour. This highlights the dystopian theme of isolation.

Opening Sequence/ Genre Conventions: This shot shows the setting to be dark, but the sun in the morning rising. The creates a tense atmosphere, as the sun symbolises a new day suggesting to audiences see the film is about to start. We can see from this shot the theme is set in some sort of field, or landscape. This shot in particular highlights the genre of action adventure, as is a mystery for audiences, as they don’t know what is over this grass. Making them intrigued in what is going to happen.

An establishing shot/dolly zoom Is used while introducing both main characters. The fact that the film is slowly being introduced through the setting it is based. This particular shot of the long grass covering the screen to it slowly revealing more of the landscape creates a mystery.

It creates an excitement towards he audience, as the build up is slow, and detailed. This slow introduction to the film makes audiences more engages and on the edge of there seats waiting for the action to begin.

Opening Sequence/ Genre Conventions: A further introduction of some of the main characters names are included while more of the setting is continued to be slowly revealed. The isolation of the landscape creates an atmosphere, as audiences will want to continue seeing the whole of this landscape, and understand why these objects are here, and why the land is so isolated and carefully laid out.

The final main actor is introduced right before where the film is going to be set is shown.

The use of isolated landscape in this establishing shot creates a desolate tone to this opening, and makes audiences have questions they want to be answered. This makes audiences excited and more engaged throughout the whole film, due to this opening sequence.

The use of….. to reveal what is behind this fence creates a tense atmosphere, as audiences see the main setting behind the fence. This creates this atmosphere as the slow reveal is about to be shown, making audiences jumpy and excited to finally see where to adventure is going to be set.

The establishing shot of where the film will be set is used. The landscape shows both the rural and urban areas of the city.

Where the film will be set is introduced (Chicago). It also introduces the music supervisor, the executive score producer and editors.

A high angle shot is used to show audiences the city and what it is like. This utopian modern society makes audiences excited to watch this, as they see it is a big city, and as it is an action adventure this city will be explored further.

During this clip the producer is included, so audiences recognise who produced this film.

Characters are introduced, and an understanding of the divided groups may slowly be starting to become clear. We see from the high angle shot a divide in groups through colours. This makes audiences want to know about this divide. One could suggest this is breaking the convention of action adventure, as usually the conventions of a teen drama contains ‘cliques’.

The fact that they are the last people to be introduced shows they are the people intended to be remembered, as there are no more people introduced, meaning they will be rememberedThis Further shows the division of the people in this setting. The utopian setting relates to people now as it Is set in a more modern world.
