October brings Black History Month, which Warwick celebrates by running events for staff and students.

Warwick is also working towards submitting for a Race Equality Charter Mark, which provides a framework through which institutions work to identify and self-reflect on institutional and cultural barriers standing in the way of minority ethnic staff and students. Member institutions develop initiatives and solutions for action and can apply for a Bronze or Silver level award, depending on levels of progress.

November2016Warwick hosts an annual Dignity at Warwick event in November to remind staff, students and the wider Warwick community that there is an expected level of behaviour at Warwick.

Warwick’s approach to tackling harassment and bullying is by emphasising positive behaviour and the responsibilities that we all have to challenge inappropriate behaviour when we see it.

There are 24 Dignity Contacts who are available for staff to approach to discuss any concerns they may have with regard to discrimination/harass-ment or bullying. The Dignity Contacts provide a confidential listening service and can give guidance on the options avail-able for individuals to take to stop the unwanted behaviour.

More information on the Dignity at Warwick Policy and Dignity Contacts can be found on the Diversity and Inclusion webpages.

Warwick has a multi-faith Chaplaincy, which is a place of hospitality, safety, care and encounter. If you need space to reflect in the midst of a busy academic life, you can find it here.

Chaplaincy is a home away from home; an oasis in the enormous number of activities available across the campus. If you have a particular faith and religion, we are able to help you meet with people who share your beliefs and can help make University a time of growth for you.

We’re here for absolutely anyone, of all faiths and none, who would appreciate the different pace of our space and the support of our Chaplains.

For further information, including a list of places of worship for various religious denominations, please refer to the Chaplaincy website.

In partnership with Coventry University, Warwick is a main sponsor of Coventry Pride, contributing £10,000 over a three year period. Coventry Pride takes place each year in June and brings together those that identify as LGBT and those that do not, to enjoy a family orientated event to celebrate diversity and wellbeing of the community in which both universities are located.

Darren Wallis, Chair of the Warwick Equality and Diversity Network in 2015/16 commented: “At Warwick we understand that simply having diversity in our work force and study body is not enough. We must create an inclusive environment where all people can contribute and reach their full potential. That environment includes the City of Coventry as much of our campus is part of the city and many of our staff and students also live in Coventry so the University is delighted to be able to support Coventry Pride and its impact on our community.”

The Diversity and Inclusion team is responsible for promoting all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion and can offer advice and guidance to the whole university community.

In addition to developing the University’s Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Equality Objectives, the team works to develop other equality related policies and guidance. Warwick has a number of diversity and inclusion e-learning modules (available on the Learning and Development website) and staff are encouraged to take the courses to ensure everyone is aware of our individual and collective responsibility in relation to diversity and inclusion.

Find information on a host of equality, diversity and inclusion related information, support and guidance on the Diversity and Inclusion webpages.
