Area of Kvarner and North Adriatic is quite often exposed to the NE wind called ‘’bura’’. This wind always blows from the land to the direction of the sea. Because of this reason, we are not capable always to stick exactly to the route plan. Of course, this notice is primarily oriented toward diving spots and not to the ports where we stay at night. If the NE wind is simply too strong, islands of Krk, Rab and Pag can be simply replaced with some other islands and diving spots which are located from the west side of islands Cres, Premuda and Mali Lošinj. Vis *wrack* Zadar - Vodice - Rogoznica - Komiža (Vis) - Primošten – Zadar

Highlights of the Vis Tour

Island Vis

Up to 6 wrecks

Special protection area Vis

National park Kornati

Vis wrack route covers area from Zadar up to island

Vis (www.tz-vis.hr) which is located around 30 knots

west from Split (www.visitsplit.com). Island Vis is best

known island for diving in central Dalmatia and it is

especially attractive because of wracks, caves, walls

and great visibility of sea.

The main difference between Vis wrack tour and

standard Vis tour is that Vis wrack tour does not include national

park Kornati and main focus on tour is on wrack diving.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Vis wrack route is COMPLETELY determined by weather

conditions as this island is quite isolated from the main land.

Island Vis is located on the open sea so sometimes south wind

(jugo) and North West wind (tramontana) can create high waves

and unstable weather. If we have north and north west wind than

only south and south east side of the island is available for diving.

If the wind blows from the south side, than we can focus only on

north side of the island. This kind of bad weather is not so usual but in case that we cannot dive on Vis,

this tour can be replaced with South or Kornati tour. This is the main reason why all our clients should be

aware that captain has right to change this route due to the weather conditions! If the boat cannot remain

all 4 days in area of this island, than we must switch to other attractive diving spots which are closer to

the main land. In this case Vis wrack tour can be replaced by

Vis tour which includes visit to national park Kornati. Vis is

definitely place for more experienced divers and it is specially

protected area. Since area of complete island Vis is specially

protected cultural and marine area, diving is only allowed with

authorized diving club or company. For this tour all our

customers pay 60 euro additionally for extra fuel expenses and

60 euro for diving license (they include more than 4 and up to 8

dives in this area).

Non divers are paying 30 euro per person for all week.

Vis has very interesting history. Komiža was former pirate port and its castle and church of St.Nicholas

date from 1585. The island was closed for foreign tourism as a result of the headquarters of Marshal Tito

until 1989.

Page 8: Diving routes - Orvas Yachtingorvasyachting.com/documents/Vranjak I - diving routes.pdf · Diving routes Route arbitrary SOUTH TOUR: Zadar (Sukošan) – Vodice – Tribunj – Rogoznica

Diving spots on Vis are usually wrack Tetti (up to 35 m, great visibility, congers), Vassillios (wrack 25-

55m), fishing wrack Fortunal, wrack Brioni (only for advanced and technical divers), B 17 Bombarder,

wrack Ursus, in combination with beautiful and deep walls and caves. Majority of divers in Croatia

consider Vis as most beautiful island for diving on all Adriatic Sea.

Around 3 p.m., Vranjak I starts cruising toward place

Primošten which is located almost 90 km south from

Zadar. This journey takes usually up to 5 hours. With one

swim stop which includes check out of diving gear, the

ship arrives after dinner time into this small Dalmatian

place. Primošten is starting point for our journey toward

Vis and it is very interesting tourist destination (www.tz-

primosten.hr)

Since island Vis is located around 35 nautical miles for

Primošten, we must start journey for Vis as soon as

possible. Due to this reason, Vranjak I starts around 5

a.m. from Primošten toward Vis. Our main goal is to

come to Vis as soon as possible so that we have enough

time to make first diving before the launch time. Our first

day on Vis is reserved for 2 easier diving locations and on the night we usually stay in ports like Komiža

or harbor Vis.

These 3 days are reserved for diving in area of island Vis but in this case our plan is completely

determined by weather conditions. We are trying to organize our diving schedule in to order to get best

possible weather conditions for desired diving locations.

On early morning of sixth day (Thursday) or Wednesday afternoon, we are cruising back in direction of

place Rogoznica and the main land. The way back to the main land is also determined by weather

conditions. After diving in area of Rogoznica and Primošten, the ship usually stays over night in harbors

like Vodice or Tribunj. On Friday night we are coming back to Sukošan port where our journey toward Vis

started.
