DECEMBER newsletter
PNW Division 27 Official Newsletter Volume 3 Issue 9
TOUCAN TIMES
Greetings Hello Division 27!
December is finally upon us! It seems
like everyone is a little bit more cheerful
during the holiday season! I hope every-
one is in the spirit of giving because the
winter time is a fantastic season to get in-
volved in your community! Many schools
throughout the district have been holding
canned food or winter wear drives!
Coming up are many exciting Key
Club events including the Let it Eliminate
benefit showcase on December 14th! It’ll
take place in Renton’s Harambee. Take
this opportunity to see what’s going on
around the district! Many other Key Club-
bers will be there to support.
In addition, Lieutenant Governor Elec-
tions are fast approaching! I strongly en-
courage all of you to consider running. The
experiences you have and people you
meet are extremely special. Being a part
of the district board is a way to build lead-
ership and increase your involvement in
the organization. Feel free to contact me
with any questions or concerns you
have. Elections will be on January 11th.
With love & service,
Ashley Yoo

November DCM Recap
At our last DCM, many members from the division took part in
Hopelink’s Turkey Trot. This year, they had a record number of par-
ticipants with over 1,000 people either running/walking! Thank you
to everyone who participated.
This meeting we spent a lot of time going over how each
school was planning on contributing to the Eliminate Project by
sharing fundraising ideas as well as recapping a few fundraisers
that schools in our division put together, including Trick-or-Treat for
UNICEF. A huge congratulations to Juanita High School which
earned around $3,000 for Trick or Treat! With the doubling pro-
gram through Kirkland Kiwanis and again by Kiwanis International,
they are contributing near $12,000 to the Eliminate Project! Some
ideas included holding miracle minutes, bake sales, balloon-
grams, carnivals, garage sales, and many others! Also consider
speaking with your local Kiwanis! They are often more than willing
to help!
In addition, we went over some important upcoming events
including Lieutenant Governor Elections! Please be sure to read
over the next few pages for details!
Lt.G Elections

For those interested in running for Lieutenant Governor:
I see so much potential in the group of leaders that have
grown this past year, and now it’s time to hand off the re-
sponsibility to one of you. Serving on the district board this
past year has been one of the most rewarding experienc-
es to date. The friendships, the accomplishments, and the
difference I’ve witnessed through this leadership position
have revealed how special the Key Club community truly
is. I strongly encourage each of you to consider running for
LtG. Don’t let trivial deterrents come in the way of this op-
portunity. I believe in each of you, and I can’t wait to see
the future of Division 27 unravel.
Election packets have been e-mailed with
the December Updates e-mailed to Key Club
officers. Either contact your club officers or
Ashley at [email protected] if you
have not yet received the election packet.
Hopelink is a local non-profit organization based in Bellevue, which serves the homeless and low in-come families as well as people with disabilities. Their mission is to “promote self-sufficiency for all members of our community” and make a lasting change. They also have service centers in Kirkland/Northshore, Redmond, Shoreline, and Sno-Valley.

When Katrina's son, Tyler, was diag-
nosed with Type II diabetes, pre-
school staff said they wouldn't be
able to care for him until they un-
derwent additional training. Alt-
hough Katrina was working, she
had exhausted all of her paid time
off and looking after her son meant
she would be unable to meet basic
expenses. Hopelink helped Katrina
receive Consolidated Homeless
Grant funds that enabled the
young family to stay in their home
until Katrina could return to work.
FEATURED STORY
Hopelink in Division 27
ICS’s Food Drive
This past November, the ICS Key Club put to-
gether a food drive for Hopelink. We contact-
ed [email protected] to organize the food
drive and gave her some tentative dates we
were hoping to hold the drive. Then we drove
to hopelink and picked up crates and sleeves
for each grade as we wanted to make the
food drive a school competition to raise some
excitement. We determined we had enough
funds to host a pizza party for the grade that
raised the most nonperishable food items.
Then we advertised, advertised, advertised!
We even planned "food ambushes" where
grades brought in a TON of food on the last
few days. We gathered 1,413 food items to-
taling 1240 lbs! Though a small school with lit-
tle over 400 students, we were able to make
a big difference this Thanksgiving.

wrap presents for homeless families in Seattle at the
