    3 CEILINGS

Selecting an optimal ceiling for an elevator is essential because of many reasons:

     – Good lighting can significantly improve the experience how we feel and behave in our environment.

     – Light affects how colors, materials and surfaces are revealed and perceived.

     – Lighting design is about creating the atmosphere.

     – Good lighting significantly improves visual comfort and the quality of the experience.

     – Light stimulates all senses and affects feelings of wellbeing, safety and orientation.

     – Emotions can be enhanced with functional, appropriate and pleasant lighting.

The ceilings are categorized in two types according to their structure:

     – Flat suspended ceilings

     – 3D-ceilings

There are two types of lighting:

     – Direct

     – Indirect

Sources of light can also be divided into two types:

     – Fluorescent

     – LED

Key properties of KONE ceilings are the following:

     – All ceilings and lighting comply with EN 81-1/2.

     – Luminous intensity of the lighting is at least 100 lux at any floor level.

     – Trap door is available for all ceilings as an option.

     – The number of diffusers or spot lights in a ceiling depends on the car width and depth.

    3.1 Ceiling alternatives

For material descriptions, see section 4, Wall and front wall materials.

4 WALL AND FRONT WALL MATERIALS

NOTE: Same material must be used on one specific wall (A/B/C/D) regardless of the number of

panels except for 3-panel wall with etched stainless steel. For more information, see chapter 4.1.4

    Etched stainless steel.

    4.1 Stainless steel

Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance, strength, hygiene and durability features. The surface

requires minimal maintenance and continues to look good over many years of service. Therefore, the

stainless steel is an ideal choice for hospitals and public buildings. It is also highly recyclable and

typically contains at least 60% of recyclable material.

    Features:

     – Easy to maintain

     – Environmentally friendly

     – Corrosion-resistant

     – Hygienic

     – Recyclable

     – Continues to look good over many years of service

     – Durable

    4.1.1 Brushed stainless steel

The brushed steel finish is produced by applying friction to the surface of the metal. The brushing gives

the metal a distinctive look, as it retains some but not all of its metallic lustre and is given a pattern of

    very fine lines.

    Features:

     – Neutral appearance

     – Correct cleaning is essential for the appearance and maintenance

     – Smaller carbon footprint than conventional silk print

     – Scratch test results are available

     – Correct cleaning is essential for the appearance and maintenance: rinse with clean water or a mild

    6 OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

    6.1 Handrails

Handrails can be placed on the walls of the elevator car to provide support for the passengers.

There are multiple handrail options available.

    Selection rules:

     – All handrails can be placed on rear wall and side walls. A handrail consists of separate end caps

and a tube, and therefore easy to vary according to car size.

     – Only one handrail type can be chosen for one elevator car.

     – For the full glass wall case, a dedicated handrail is offered which is fixed to the side walls and to

the floor. The glass wall handrail HR81 has different fixing method comparing to the otherhandrails.

NOTE: It is also possible to have handrail on the same wall with side wall FH COP. In this case the

handrail has been dimensioned so that it will not overlap COP.

     For more information, see SO-06.03.001.

    6.2 Mirrors

Mirrors can be placed on the rear wall of the elevator car to create an impression of space and luxury.

The dimensions of the mirrors have been defined according to accessible design principles. The mirror

dimensions and position allow wheelchair users to see the floor and entrance when entering and

    exiting the elevator.

    Rules:

     – Handrail is mandatory with a mirror to enhance safety.

     – The installation height is 50 mm from the ceiling.

The mirror is installed to the car wall with the fixing parts that are not visible to the passenger. Separate

aluminum lists are not needed. The mirror cannot be installed to the glass wall.

The sizes of mirrors are defined according to car sizes. For detailed dimensions of the mirror, see SO-

    6.3 Skirtings

Skirting is included in all car decorations. The skirting is installed at the edges of the car floor, on the

side and rear walls. It is installed with the fixing parts that are not visible to the passenger. Skirting

hides gaps between the floor and wall materials: it is the final detail ensuring the flawless visual impact

    of the car.

The skirting is made of skirting profiles, corner pieces and possibly end caps (in case of surface

mounted COP on side wall). The height of the skirting is 75 mm.

When full height car operating panel (COP) on side wall:

     – With KDS D40 the skirting is interrupted at the front of the COP

     – With other full height KDS signalizations the skirting continues over the COP

    6.4 Buffer rails

A buffer rail prevents the wall panels from damages. Due to its rigid construction it sustains impacts

    from shopping trolleys etc.

The aluminum frame of the buffer rail is 100 mm high and 18 mm deep, and its total length is 650 –

3400 mm. The buffer rail does not extend to the car corner. It is installed with the fixing parts that are

    not visible to the passenger.

NOTE: A buffer rail can be placed into the same wall as COP, see figure 3.

    6.5 Tenant directory

The tenant directory is a designed module that contains the house tenant information or other printed

material. The tenant directory can be fixed on any common flat surface on the elevator car wall (except

glass wall). Tenant directories will be fixed to car wall by using standard self drilling screws.

Tenant directories are available in two sizes: A4 and A3. They can be installed either vertically or

horizontally. An ordinary paper is used as an information sheet.

NOTE: Place the tenant directory so that there is free space above or below the directory. To

change the information sheet, approximately 210 or 420 mm (same as the directory height) of free

    space is needed.

    9 MAINTENANCE ACCESS PANEL

NOTE: This section is applicable only for machine-room-less elevators.

The maintenance access panel (MAP) is a part of the elevator control system, including the user-

interface intended for serviceman and switches, fuses and brake release lever. It contains, as

prescribed by elevatos codes, the main commands for emergency and maintenance operations. The

MAP must be reachable from the landing.

MAP is located on the topmost floor or on the second topmost floor. It is always placed on the same

side of the machine and always on “A” shaft side.

There are two MAP types: door-type MAP (D-MAP) is integrated into the door frame or door front and

the wall-type MAP (W-MAP) is installed to the wall next to the landing door.

The maximum interfloor between the topmost floor and the second topmost floor is four meters. The

minimum width of the lobby in front of the MAP panel depends on local regulations.
